Mount Cook National Park Day Trip 📸

One of the best trips I took whilst in New Zealand was a day trip to Mount Cook National Park. To be honest, a day really isn’t enough for this beautiful place but unfortunately I was under time constraints! ⏰ I was based in Christchurch which is about a 4 hour drive from Mount Cook. You can rent a car and drive yourself or take one of the many tours leaving the city. If you’re taking a tour be sure to book it early as they sell out fast! I decided to go with Cheeky Kea which was pretty decent. 🚌 Itinerary: 1️⃣ Lake Tekapo - This is the first of two lakes you’ll pass by on the way to Mount Cook. It’s a pretty nice stop and the church is one of the most photographed buildings in New Zealand. To be honest, I preferred Lake Pukaki as it had less tourists. 2️⃣ Lake Pukaki - This is the second lake you’ll stop at and it was amazing. The clouds cleared so I could see Mount Cook and the water was so blue! One of the most beautiful lakes I’ve seen. 3️⃣ Mount Cook Hooker Valley walking track - There are numerous walks you can do but if you’re stuck for time I would recommend this one. They suggest it takes about 3 hours to complete but I managed it in 2 along with several photo stops. It’s not a loop so you will have to return the way you came.
