Yanque Lake, originally known as Qian Lake or Baidang Lake, is located southwest of Zhongshan Mountain, outside the north city wall of Zhongshan Gate. The lake shore extends west to Huangpu Road, south to Wuchaomen, and north to Houzaimen, with a circumference of about 15 km. After Zhu Yuanzhang established the capital in Nanjing, most of Yanque Lake was used for the construction of the imperial palace and city walls.
