The Walker Hotel, just half a block away, can be perfectly summarized in one sentence - 'I just like it!'. What it has is no longer just a feature, it's a bold and distinct personality! This hotel has one fatal flaw - it lacks space, so small that even a poor student's room is definitely bigger, but the hotel seems to not mind at all about revealing this shortcoming, just like those heavy metal youths dressed in black leather jackets on the streets of New York who don't understand classical music, they don't pretend to, they just shout: 'What the fxxk is it?' and leave nonchalantly. In the face of the lack of space, the Walker Hotel doesn't try to hide it, but instead uses a whole system of tricks that come into play when space is tight: get rid of the bed frame, and put the bed on top of the cabinet; don't bother with charging ports, just drill two holes at the head of the bed for USB ports; still no place for the bed? Then just tuck it into the corner! What, the bed's head and tail both touch the wall? No space is the optimal solution! This series of moves blatantly tells the guests 'this is how it is, I have no more space', no hiding, just simple, direct, and rough. But it is precisely because of this roughness that the problem of insufficient space is truly solved - I know the place is small, but with this set of kung fu, it prevents the 'small space' from turning into a feeling of constriction. Walking into the room, it feels comfortable, without the cramped feeling brought by pretending to be bigger than it is. On top of this, one can almost hear the designer's disdainful shout: 'So what if the space is small? Can't I still design?' Because, although this room is small, one can feel that the designer has carefully thought about every inch of it. He/She didn't follow a formula, but instead, following the principles of industrial style, thought inch by inch about how to do this and how to fit that, and perhaps because of this, this space, with its walls brushed with white lime and occasionally deliberately exposing a bit of brick, has a strong 'handcrafted flavor' - an indescribable distinction, like the difference between a handmade leather bag and a factory-made one, the former just has a sense of life. A vibe that surprisingly exudes a delicate coolness.
