Changdeokgung was a secondary palace located north of Hanyang, the capital of the Joseon Dynasty. (*Secondary Palace: A palace built separately from the main palace where the king conducts state affairs) It is located on the foot of a mountain range extending from Eungbong. To the east of Changdeokgung is Changgyeonggung, to the southeast is Jongmyo, and to the west is Gyeongbokgung, the main palace.
