Donglin Temple in Jinshan, Shanghai | Thousand Buddha Gate, Guanyin Statue, Sudhana | Five Buddha Crown

Donglin Temple is located at No. 150 Donglin Street, Zhujing Town, Jinshan District, Shanghai. It was founded by the monk Miaoyin in the first year of the Yuan Dynasty (1308) and has a history of nearly 700 years. In the 700 years of wind and rain, it has suffered from wars and fires, and has been rebuilt many times. It was renovated and expanded in 2007 to form the current scale. Jinyuan Bridge, the whole bridge is made of fine copper, and the bridge railings and bridge surface are decorated with exquisite copper carvings in traditional Chinese style, with vivid shapes and unique elegance of Chinese classics. There are 1017 different fonts of the word 'Fu' carved on the bridge steps. In the Golden Lotus Pond, there is a 5-meter-high Sudhana made of cloisonne, which is the first of its kind in China. The whole body of this Sudhana is inlaid with enamel color materials, polished and gilded, and can rotate 360 degrees freely. The Golden Lotus Pond is a wishing pond, and the koi fish that the believers adopt and release in the wishing pond are lively and agile, and each fish has an owner. The Guanyin Pavilion is currently the tallest and most accommodating Guanyin Pavilion in China, with 10,000 Guanyin Bodhisattvas inside. The tallest Thousand-Hand Guanyin statue in the room is 27 meters high, the largest in the world. The 'Thousand Buddha Gate' is the gate of the 'Guanyin Pavilion', which is 20.08 meters high and 10.295 meters wide. It is made of ancient raindrop flower copper plates, and the door is composed of 999 Guanyin reliefs and a 'Buddha' character as high as the door. The Thousand Buddha Gate is majestic and magnificent. The Bell and Drum Tower is the main hall-style building in Donglin Temple. The two large copper halls are placed on the left and right, both with gilded copper roofs. Inside the hall, there is a copper bell and a drum, which is the first pair of copper bell and drum towers in China. The highest point of Donglin Temple, the Five Buddha Crown, can be reached by taking the elevator inside the rockery. The total height of the Five Buddha Crown Buddha head is 22 meters, made of purple copper, standing on the top of the entire artificial mountain, looking down at all beings with compassion. The whole is an abstract Buddha face, the nose is Guanyin, the nostrils are two dragon heads, the mouth is a lotus seat, the eyes are Feitian, the two ears are two Dharma protectors, and the face depicts the story of Guanyin's 32 responses.
