Volcano Geothermal National Geological Park | Tengchong Volcano

Tengchong, with 97 volcanoes, is an excellent destination for exploring volcanic landforms. Among them, Tengchong's Volcano Geological Park is an ideal place to appreciate volcanic geological features. This park mainly includes Da Kong Mountain, Columnar Joint, and Black Fish River. Due to the distance between them, tourists usually go to Da Kong Mountain in Mazhan Township first. Entering the scenic area gate, there is a museum about volcanoes on the right, where you can learn about the formation and structure of volcanoes. The road from the gate to Da Kong Mountain is wide, and both sides are paved with volcanic stones. In addition, there is a fork in the road leading to the trail of Xiao Kong Mountain. You can choose to climb one or both mountains depending on your physical strength and time. Both mountains have trails to the 'bottom of the pot' (volcano crater), with Xiao Kong Mountain offering more beautiful scenery. If time and energy do not permit, it is recommended to choose to climb Xiao Kong Mountain. Both mountains have stairs at the top, and a wooden plank road has been built around the crater of Xiao Kong Mountain, where you can walk around the crater. In addition, tourists can also follow the trail down to the top of the mountain. If you want to experience another perspective overlooking the volcano crater, you can choose to take a hot air balloon in the morning. After visiting the volcano, you can take a minibus at the gate to the Columnar Joint and Black Fish River scenic spots. Columnar Joint is a unique landform in volcanic areas. After getting off at the Columnar Joint parking lot, you can walk along the plank road and see the sharp stone pillar groups hanging on the slopes on both sides like large screens. After visiting the Columnar Joint, you can return to the parking lot and take a car to the Black Fish River scenic spot. The Black Fish River is a river formed by the convergence of two underground dark streams, named after the small black fish in the river. There are no restaurants in the scenic area, so it is recommended to eat in the small town at the entrance of the scenic area before entering, or to prepare dry food. In this way, you can enjoy the beauty of Tengchong Volcano Geological Park without worrying about hunger.
