Avoiding Crowds During May Day: Lesser-Known Travel Routes Around Tianshui Avoiding crowds during May Day holiday with this reverse travel guide: Tianshui—Qin'an—Zhuanglang During the May Day holiday, I had eagerly planned to visit the popular Maiji Mountain. However, with tickets sold out three days in advance and roads to Xianren Cliff and Jingtu Temple completely jammed, I decisively changed my plans and embarked on this reverse travel journey from Tianshui to Qin'an to Zhuanglang. Day 1: Tianshui City • Morning: Discovering the peaceful Nanguo Temple: With few tourists and tickets only 20 yuan (free for seniors over 60), tranquility envelops you as soon as you enter. This ancient temple with over 1,600 years of history exudes a unique charm. Ancient trees reach toward the sky, most notably the famous Spring and Autumn cypress tree, which at 2,500 years old has witnessed countless historical changes. The temple buildings are arranged in perfect harmony, with every detail showcasing the wisdom and craftsmanship of the ancients. Du Fu once stayed in Tianshui and left behind many poems praising the area. His poem "Mountain Top Nanguo Temple" made the temple famous, and the Du Shaolin Shrine inside was built to commemorate him. The shrine contains statues of Du Fu and his attendant, evoking memories of that historical period. Walking through the temple, you can feel the gentle breeze on your face while listening to the rustling of ancient tree leaves. • Evening: Visit Tianshui Welcome Tower: After exploring Nanguo Temple, my stomach was growling, so I went to the highly recommended Tianshui Welcome Tower to taste local cuisine. For about 60 yuan per person, you can eat to your heart's content. Day 2: Exploring Zhuanglang's Yunyai Temple • Morning: Heading to Yunyai Temple in Zhuanglang: Early on the second day, we drove to Yunyai Temple in Zhuanglang. Admission is 55 yuan, with free entry for seniors over 60 with valid ID. • Afternoon: The awe-inspiring Yunyai Temple Grottoes: Located deep in the natural forest canyon of Guan Mountain, I was captivated by the scenery as soon as I entered. With clear waters, fresh air, and surrounding peaks, it feels like a paradise on earth. The Yunyai Temple Grottoes were first carved during the late Northern Wei Dynasty and renovated through several dynasties. Currently, there are 73 cave openings, 22 stone statues, 128 clay statues, and numerous exquisite murals and inscriptions. • Evening: Tasting Zhuanglang's special hot pot: After leaving Yunyai Temple, you must try Zhuanglang's specialty hot pot. With a long history originating from rural gatherings and banquets, sitting together with family or friends around a steaming hot pot creates an especially warm atmosphere. Day 3: Qin'an Cuisine and Dadiwan Scenic Area Tour • Morning: Arriving in Qin'an and visiting Dadiwan Scenic Area: Getting from Tianshui to Qin'an is very convenient. The Dadiwan site is a Neolithic cultural relic dating back 8,000-4,800 years. Here you can see the layout of primitive villages and travel back to ancient times, experiencing the origins and development of human civilization. History enthusiasts shouldn't miss this. • Noon - Evening: Beginning a culinary journey: Qin'an cuisine is known for its rich, hearty flavors that blend culinary characteristics from Qin, Sichuan, and Shanxi people. ◦ Sour and Spicy Tripe Soup: One of Qin'an's signature dishes, featuring crispy tender tripe in a deliciously sour and spicy broth.
