The Bobby at the Market Place in Oulu

The statue is called Toripolliisi in Finnish. it has an additional letter L in the word poliisi (policeman) due to the local dialect in Oulu. The statue is located right at the entrance of the market hall in Oulu market square and it faces the sea and the tiny island of Kiikelj very near the coastline. It was made of Bronze by sculptor Kaarlo Mikkonen in 1987 and it was named in honor of the bobbies or policemen once patrolling at the market square. It was funded with the help of public. Oulu marketplace is a vivid summer destination with a different feeling from southern cities market places (such as Helsinki). For me as someone coming from the south, there are a lot of vibes from the northern Finland and even the close border of Sweden. I recommend you to pass by the statue and even take a selfie with this cute little statue that never gets tired of watching the sea. #oulu #finland #toripoliisi #toripolliisi #historicculture#seasidephotoguide#roadtrip#summervacation#urbanexplorer
