Vienna is a city that has long been associated with excellence in modern, multiunit housing and BURO KLK's Gudrunstraße lends further credence to this perception. Erected in an empty lot, the building's façade is comprised of stacked Viennese Schrebergardens (traditional, small and intmate garden communities), creating a unique identity for each home while simultaneously reinforcing a strong and singular character for the building as a whole. The peaked gable-like protrutions act like symbols of home and dwelling — an especially welcome image in a predominantly commercial neighborhood. In this sense, the apartment building positively contributes to the area's urban development. The complex contains a total of fifty apartments and six offices, all oriented to the South-East towards a more quiet street.
