HYATT - EPISODE Daan Taipei, jdv by Hyatt

#AugustDestinations2025 #ChinesePopHitsEveryDay - Taipei Daan Ipso Hotel is the second Ipso Hotel in Taiwan, following the Hsinchu Ipso Hotel. - Both Ipsos are very modern, but Daan Ipso has a more retro feel, because there's an endless supply of Chinese pop hits! - Honestly, I have no idea what's trending in Chinese music right now, but upon entering Daan Ipso, you'll find songs by Mayday, Jay Chou, Eileen Tsai, Stefanie Sun, Faye Wong, and Mo Wenwei... Every single one of them is a classic you'll be familiar with! On the day we checked in, we happened to run into a staff member from Hong Kong. He said that when he came to work here, hearing these hit songs from his youth brought him to tears! - #Guest Rooms with Private Balconies - In Greater Taipei, staying in a room with a private balcony is quite a luxury. Our room faces west, so we can't see Taipei 101. But it does have a good-sized balcony and a drop-down bathtub with floor-to-ceiling windows creating a sense of transparency. Evening baths are incredibly comfortable. The bath products we use are from the modern New York-based skincare brand MALIN+GOETZ. The brand's entire product line is paraben-free, fragrance-free, and colorant-free. And they're also cruelty-free. For people like us who have stray cats, this is especially important. The room design also features a modern retro vibe. The king-size Sealy mattress and a brown blanket atop the duvet are incredibly soft, making you want to buy one to take home. There's also a vintage record player on the table with a selection of Mandarin albums. Our recording that day was "The Right Person" by Ailing Dai. It's incredibly popular. Who can't sing a few lines?

The Grand Hotel

#AugustGoodPlaces2025 The Grand Hotel's pool is beautiful. It's probably the largest outdoor pool in any hotel in Taipei, or even Taiwan. On a nice day, the blue sky and white clouds, combined with the Grand Hotel right in front of the pool, create a truly beautiful scene. My wife once attended the Cosmopolitan swimsuit party here, but it was so crowded it was difficult to take photos. This time, we could take our time and take our time. #Cheongsam This experience is also worth sharing. Before the pandemic, I took my family to Macau and rented cheongsams. We took photos at the Cathedral of Our Lady of L'Avenida da Mundo, one of Macau's three oldest churches. It felt like a fusion of East and West, and we all had a blast. This time, wearing a cheongsam and taking photos at the Grand Hotel, I was transported to a truly beautiful fusion of Eastern culture. For a moment, I thought I was in Shanghai! Highly recommended.

Jiantanshan Trail

#AugustGoodPlaces2025 I've hiked the Yuanshan Trail several times, but I didn't realize until this trip that there are several routes. I've probably only hiked one-tenth of it before. Today, I started from the trail next to the Grand Hotel and continued down Tongbei Street. The entire hike took about an hour, which is quite easy. There are several Kuomintang checkpoints along the way. They're now abandoned, of course, but you can imagine how heavily fortified this area was in the past, protecting Chiang Kai-shek. There are also several rest stops along the way with expansive views. You can watch planes taking off and landing in Dazhi or the Guanyin Mountain area in Beitou. Next time, I might go in the evening to take pictures of the sunset; it should be beautiful. Any friends who enjoy hiking? Let's make a date and hike together!
