Liaoning

Yixian. Fengguo Temple. It was founded in the ninth year of Liaoning's Kaiping era (1020), initially named Xianxi Temple, and later renamed Fengguo Temple. The heyday of Fengguo Temple was during the Liao, Jin, and Yuan dynasties. By the Ming and Qing dynasties, only the Great Buddha Hall remained. During the Qing Dynasty, a hexagonal bell tower, a four-cornered stele pavilion, the Wuliang Hall, a memorial archway, a small mountain gate, and the West Palace Zen Institute were added. Fengguo Temple is one of the three existing temples from the Liao Dynasty in China. Its iconic ancient building, the Great Buddha Hall, is the largest Buddha hall left from ancient times, and it houses the world's oldest and largest group of colored clay Buddha statues.
