2026 Minamitsuru District Travel Guide: must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transport & travel experiences (updated in July)

In my opinion, this is one of the most convenient ways to see Fuji if you're traveling along the classic route Osaka → Kyoto → Fuji → Tokyo or vice versa. When we were planning our trip, it turned out that most services offered travel from Kyoto via Tokyo. But there's a much more convenient option. 🚅 How to get from Kyoto (or Osaka) We took the Tokaido Shinkansen from Kyoto Station to Mishima Station. The journey takes about 2 hours 40 minutes. If you start your trip in Osaka, you can take the same Shinkansen from Shin-Osaka Station. From Mishima Station, transfer to a direct bus to Kawaguchiko Station. We purchased tickets on a Japanese website, as TripCom didn't offer this route. 💡 I highly recommend purchasing both Shinkansen and bus tickets in advance. We booked almost everything through Trip.com, and it was much more relaxing than searching for tickets at the last minute. And during high season, they might not be available at all! 🏨 Where to Stay I would definitely recommend spending 2 nights here. We stayed at the Royal Kawaguchiko Hotel and can highly recommend it. The main advantage is the tattoo-friendly onsen, which is still a rarity in Japan. After a busy day, a hot onsen is a special treat. The only caveat: the onsen is shared, completely clothing-optional, and the men's and women's areas are separate. If you're traveling as a couple, you won't be able to relax together. Our hotel didn't have any private onsen. 🍱 If your traditional Japanese breakfast is included, be sure to try it at least once. But I'll be honest: it might be very unusual for Europeans. With all due respect to Japanese cuisine, we didn't enjoy it at all. 😄 🎢 Must-Do Photo with Mount Fuji and the Lawson store in the background. People flock to Fujikawaguchiko just for this photo alone. If you love amusement parks or the Naruto anime, be sure to check out Fuji-Q Highland. Incidentally, this park is home to one of the most extreme roller coasters. You can also eat Ramen Ichiraku there. I'll dedicate a separate post to this place because there's so much to talk about. Another thing I'd definitely include in my itinerary is renting a bike. 🚲 Unfortunately, we didn't have time to circle Lake Kawaguchiko, but if I go again, I'll do that first. Many say that cycling allows you to see the most beautiful views of Fuji without the crowds. Be sure to climb the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway observation deck. The views from the top are truly stunning. ⚠️ But here's an important tip: come early in the morning. Lines start to form very quickly. We tried to buy tickets online, but it didn't work, so it's better to buy them on site. 🚌 How to get to Tokyo and back (if necessary) After two days at Fuji, we took the Highway Express Bus to Shinjuku in Tokyo. Honestly, we liked this option even better than the train: no transfers, convenient, and you're practically in the city center right away. If you're traveling from Tokyo to Fuji, the same bus is also great for the return trip. 💡 I also recommend buying tickets in advance here—seats fill up quickly. ✨ Fujikawaguchiko is one of my favorite places in Japan, and I'll definitely be back, especially during red maple season 🍁

There are places that look beautiful in photos, and then there are places that leave you speechless. This 3-day trip around Tokyo and Mt. Fuji was exactly that—a journey filled with breathtaking scenery, amazing food, and unforgettable moments. 🌸 Day 1 | Mt. Fuji & Lake Kawaguchiko Our adventure began at Lake Kawaguchiko, where the iconic Mt. Fuji stood proudly behind rows of beautiful sakura trees. Seeing the snow-capped mountain reflected on the peaceful lake felt like stepping into a postcard. We stayed at Fuji-Q Highland Hotel, and one of the best surprises was the incredible Mt. Fuji view right from the hotel entrance. Waking up to Japan's most famous mountain was an experience I'll never forget. Next, we visited Arakurayama Sengen Park, home to the famous Chureito Pagoda viewpoint. Climbing the stairs was absolutely worth it—the panoramic view of the pagoda, cherry blossoms, and Mt. Fuji is one of Japan's most iconic landscapes. Before heading back, we stopped by Lake Yamanaka, where the peaceful lakeside atmosphere and stunning mountain backdrop offered the perfect ending to our Mt. Fuji adventure. 🍣 Day 2 | Tokyo Food & City Vibes Back in Tokyo, we started the day at Tsukiji Market, where every corner was packed with delicious street food. Fresh seafood, melt-in-your-mouth wagyu beef, and the sweetest Japanese strawberries made this a food lover's paradise. As evening approached, we headed to Ueno Park to catch one of the most beautiful sunsets in Tokyo. The golden light reflecting across the park created a calm and magical atmosphere. For dinner, we finally tried the famous Ginza Tonkatsu Marushichi, and it completely lived up to the hype. Their signature thick, juicy pork cutlet was incredibly tender, crispy on the outside, and packed with flavour. Definitely one of the best meals of the trip. 🏙️ Day 3 | Tokyo Icons The final day was all about experiencing Tokyo's famous landmarks. We started at SHIBUYA SKY, where panoramic views stretched across the endless city skyline. Don't forget to capture the famous staircase photo—one of the most Instagram-worthy spots in Tokyo. Next was the historic Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, where tradition meets modern Japan. Walking through Nakamise Shopping Street, we enjoyed local snacks, traditional souvenirs, and the lively atmosphere that makes this area so special. ✨ Why this trip was unforgettable From cherry blossoms surrounding Mt. Take the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line (orange) heading towards Asakusa. Get off at Tawaramachi Station (G18) [The train ride takes only 4-5 minutes]. Exit: It is recommended to use Exit 1 or 3. Once above ground, you'll find the APA Hotel right near the station entrance. A super easy walk to your hotel. Total Expenses: · Round-trip Express Bus: Approx. 850 THB · Morning snack: 100 THB · Bike rental: 400 THB · Lunch: 180-200 THB · Metro fare: 50-100 THB You'll have about 550 THB left for snacks and souvenirs. A super popular seafood donburi spot at Ameyoko Market. Great prices, extremely fresh, and not fishy at all. 
🥩 Yakiniku Dondon
An a la carte yakiniku restaurant. The meat is incredibly tender, offering various price points and grades, from standard cuts to premium quality. 
🎏 Tsukiji Market
A highly popular fish market among tourists. Some stalls can be a bit pricey. Tsukiji 
- The tamagoyaki (sweet omelet) is as soft and fluffy as the rumors say, and not overly sweet. It's the smoothest tamagoyaki I've ever had. 
- The seafood here is exceptionally fresh with zero fishiness. The uni (sea urchin) is absolutely heavenly. 
- The white strawberries are super sweet and a definite must-try. 
🍱 Asakusa
- Sushiro in Japan offers amazing value! The variety is much wider, and the taste is completely different. If you love eating it in Thailand, you have to try it in Japan—it's much more satisfying.
- Age. 3 is a massively viral fried bread shop on TikTok. I absolutely love the dough—it’s super crispy. The cream isn't heavy at all, so you can easily keep eating it.
- Hat Coffee is another TikTok-famous spot. The coffee flavor isn't mind-blowing, but the latte art is incredible! You can even show the barista a reference picture. 
🥩 Gyukatsu
Another famous spot. We got super lucky and didn't have to wait in line. The meat is melt-in-your-mouth tender. Their signature feature is that you get your own mini grill to cook the beef to your preferred doneness. 
🍲 Houto Labo
We ordered the seafood soup, and the broth was so flavorful. The portions are huge—we could barely finish it! 
🍢 Toromasa
An izakaya where the crab paste is to die for. It's a lively drinking spot mostly filled with locals. You can't really linger too long because smoking is allowed inside, and it gets quite smokey. 
🍲 Shabu Shabu Let Us
A shabu-shabu buffet. The sukiyaki broth is delicious, but the meat wasn't quite as tender as I'd hoped. 
🍜 Ramen Kamo
A renowned ramen joint in the Okachimachi area. There's usually a queue, but if you go early, you won't have to wait at all. It totally lives up to the hype—perfectly soft noodles and a rich, savory broth.

Here’s the ultimate Mount Fuji adventure—I planned it all out so you can have maximum fun with zero stress! 🏆 We kicked things off at Shinjuku Bus Terminal (Address: 3 Chome-38-1 Shinjuku, Shinjuku City, Tokyo 160-0022, Japan). Pro tip: Get there early! The first bus leaves at 7:00 AM and the ride to Kawaguchiko Station only takes about 2 hours and 20 minutes, so it’s suuuper convenient. Fuji-Q Highland (legendary theme park, entry: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM, thrills all day!) Pro tip: Mix walking with trips on the Fujikyu Railway for max efficiency and chill. Day 2 We started the day with a quick stroll to Kawaguchiko Station to buy the 2-Day Fuji Pass—total game changer if you want to see more without breaking the bank! 👍 Only downside: It was drizzling, so Mount Fuji was playing hide-and-seek behind the clouds. 😅⛅️ Here’s where we explored: 1. This World Heritage Site offers tranquility surrounded by ancient trees, free from excessive noise. Entering the approach, the sheer size of the seven massive sacred trees known as "Seven Cedars" instantly reminds one of humanity's insignificance. This is a perfect place for Type I individuals to completely disconnect from work and recharge spiritually. Visual Focus: The giant cedars lining the approach. Each tree is over 1200 years old, their trunks' textures and thickness showcasing the passage of time. Avoidance and Survival Advice: To visit the most popular "Sky Torii (remote worship site)" online, you need to walk uphill for about 20-30 minutes from the back of the shrine. It's a real test of physical strength and willpower. Comfortable shoes are recommended, and it's best to visit in the morning when the light is optimal. · *Planning Precision:** The Harmony Shrine is private land; a small cleaning fee (cooperation fee) is required for entry and photography. The moment when the majestic mountain view slowly comes into sight, the awe and joy are truly indescribable. Although today's weather was overcast with thick clouds, the most amazing thing was that Mount Fuji was completely unobstructed by mist or clouds. The entire mountain stood clearly and prominently—what incredible luck! We strolled all the way to Kawaguchi Asama Shrine [Sky Torii], and capturing such a magnificent view was absolutely worth it! Along the way, we even passed through an incredibly long tunnel (at one point, I doubted if it was even walkable, started getting mad at myself 🫣, questioning life, myself, and everything). Finally, we were greeted by stunning maple leaves lining the stairs, along with the Chureito Pagoda and Mount Fuji. Alright, today's leg workout was totally worth it. Personally, I think it's a popular spot due to its convenient access via public transportation, including express trains and buses. You can even make it a one-day trip from Tokyo. At this station, you can take photos with Mount Fuji as the backdrop. Alternatively, you can walk to the alley next to the station where there's a small spot perfect for taking pictures. A little further down, you'll find the famous Lawson corner, a favorite photo spot for many visitors.

This is a cafe called The Park, located by Lake Yamanaka. The cafe has indoor and outdoor seating areas with views of Mount Fuji, although unfortunately, it was a bit shy the day we visited. Overall, we loved the cafe. The food was delicious; we tried both savory and sweet pancakes, which were incredibly soft and delicious. Their drinks were also refreshing. We were very impressed. To dine in, you need to order at least food or dessert; drinks are take-away only. If you're looking for a cafe with a beautiful view, I highly recommend this one! Starting from Kawaguchi Sengen Shrine, follow the serene and primitive mountain trail upwards for about 30 to 40 minutes. During autumn, the path is adorned with red maple leaves🍁 and fallen foliage🍂, making the hike especially pleasant. Standing before the worship spot, gazing at Mount Fuji🗻 in the distance, you feel as though you've stepped into the spiritual world of "worship from afar" that is central to Mount Fuji's faith—a solemn yet healing experience. On this day, I took the Red Line sightseeing bus🚌 from Kawaguchiko Station to the "Kubota Itchiku Art Museum" stop, walked to Kawaguchi Sengen Shrine, and then ascended the mountain. The itinerary was smooth and hassle-free. After descending, I stumbled upon the Maple Corridor Market at the Fuji Kawaguchiko Autumn Leaves Festival, where I enjoyed delicious grilled fish🐟 and other snacks, bringing a warm and satisfying conclusion to this Sky Torii journey.
