Edirne is a border town with Greece and Bulgaria. A steam locomotive and passenger cars have been preserved at the site of a former train station near the Greek border. It is interesting that you can freely climb into the driver's seat and the front of the locomotive. The old station building is now used as a university. A recommended place for steam locomotive fans.

It's best to spend the day there. 🌴 Selimiye This isn't exactly a "Marmaris beach," but rather a destination worth a separate trip. A small bay, white yachts, clear water, and a very pleasant atmosphere. Perfect for combining with a stroll through the village and lunch by the sea. ⛵ And also beaches that are best viewed from the water One of the best ideas in Marmaris is to take a yacht tour and see small bays that are inaccessible by land. It’s quieter than Istanbul, wonderfully walkable, and full of layers of history — but what I love most is that it still feels like a real, lived-in city rather than somewhere created for tourists. Of course, the magnificent Selimiye Mosque is the landmark everyone comes to see, but Edirne deserves more than a quick stop. Wander through the old streets, explore the bazaars, sit beside the Tunca and Meriç rivers, cross the historic bridges, and make time for Karaağaç, especially around the old railway station. Food is part of the experience too. Edirne is famous for its tava ciğeri (crispy fried liver), but even if that isn’t your thing, there are plenty of small cafés, bakeries and local restaurants worth discovering. One of my favourite things here is simply walking without a plan. You suddenly find an Ottoman building, a tiny shop, a beautiful doorway or a peaceful courtyard you would have completely missed on a rushed itinerary. 📍 Travel tip: Give Edirne at least one full day, but two days is much better if you want to experience it slowly. Comfortable shoes are essential — this is a city best discovered on foot. If you’re travelling through Turkey and want somewhere historic, affordable and much less overwhelming than the major tourist cities, don’t skip Edirne. Edirne, Turkey, is a charming city located just near the Bulgarian border. It's filled with beautiful mosques, and despite being quite compact, it features bustling bazaars and wide avenues, making it a breeze to explore without getting lost. You'll spot street dogs wandering around town. They're all vaccinated and incredibly friendly—if you're grabbing a bite to eat, they'll trot over looking hopefully for a snack. They were absolutely adorable! Compared to the much more famous Istanbul, the generally lower prices make it a fantastic and budget-friendly spot for tourists. Even right next to the bazaar, I was able to enjoy some chai for around 15 lira. Accessories and clothes are a steal, too—I snagged an adorable stole for just 120 lira! Edirne, located near the border between Turkey and Bulgaria, has many mosques. The largest of them is the Selimiye Mosque. It's about a 10-minute walk from the bazaars and main streets. You can reach the mosque by simply following the main road. There are several small bazaars around the mosque, and shopping there is one of the pleasures of the trip. You'll find Turkish kebab and sweets shops, as well as everyday goods stores, offering a glimpse into the lives of the locals, which was fascinating. Although this mountain is not high, it is one of the best viewing points in the entire city. Standing on the top of the mountain, you can almost see a 360-degree panoramic view: the Bosphorus Strait runs across both sides, and Europe and Asia are in full view. It is so beautiful that it takes your breath away. What surprises me is that this place has not yet been flooded with tourists! Therefore, the overall atmosphere is very quiet, very suitable for walking slowly and watching quietly. Surrounded by large forests, there are many paths and benches. Sitting down, drinking a cup of coffee and quietly enjoying the magnificent view of the Bosphorus is really a spiritual relaxation. If you bring children with you, don’t worry - as you walk up the mountain towards the tower, you’ll pass through a forest area where there are actually two free children’s play areas! There is also a mosque on the mountain with toilets inside, but this is the only drawback here: there are no public toilets in the park area of ​​the entire mountain, and you can only go to the mosque to use the toilet, which may be a bit inconvenient for some people.

Decided to visit the Islamic Arts Museum (IAMM) near Lake Gardens this morning. Left my dog at home since museums obviously don't allow pets, though the surrounding garden area looked quite nice, if not for the heat. Managed to get a parking spot right outside the building because I arrived early, around 10:00 AM. If you come later on a weekend, you might have to park further down the slope and walk up, which isn't very fun in this humid weather. Ticket price is RM 20 per person, which is reasonable enough. The air conditioning inside was a welcome relief. I spent quite some time in the architecture gallery. The scale model of the Ottoman Selimiye Mosque is very detailed, from the central dome down to the tiny minarets. It takes some patience to look through all the models, but the craftsmanship is good. Also walked through the manuscript section. As someone who works in education, I found the Chinese Sini calligraphy exhibits quite interesting. Seeing Islamic text written with Chinese brushwork on rice paper is a unique mix of cultures. Before leaving, I stopped by the jewelry and arms section to see the Mughal horse-headed jade dagger. The handle is carved out of a single piece of soft jade and decorated with small rubies and diamonds. It is very detailed up close. By about 12:30 PM, my legs were getting tired and the galleries were starting to get a bit crowded with tour groups. Spent about two and a half hours there in total. Headed back home after that to check on the pets and have lunch.
