Public transport takes a bit more planning, but it's 100 percent doable and way less stressful! Save this Amalfi Coast mini guide for · ater! HOW TO GET AROUND THE AMALFI COAST Naples-Sorrento: Take the Circumvesuviana or Campania Express train. It's the easiest way to start your trip and takes about 1.5 hours. Sorrento-Capri: Ferry is the way to go. It's quick (around 30 minutes) and super straightforward. Sorrento-Positano: The SITA bus takes about 45-60 minutes and usually leaves earlier in the day, which is good for day trips, but it gets insanely crowded. The ferry takes 40 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the route. It costs more, but it's way more comfortable! If you're doing a day trip, l would take an early bus to Positano, and book a late ferry back to Sorrento. um Positano-Amalfi: Same story here. The bus takes around 40 minutes and is usually packed. The ferry is 15-30 minutes, more expensive, but much easier. Amalfi-Ravello: Bus only, it takes about 30 minutes. The bus starts from Amalfi, so if you're coming from somewhere else, you'll need to change here. USEFUL TIPS FOR VISITING Where to stay: I'd personally split the trip between two bases: Sorrento and Positano/Amalfi. If you want just one base, Positano or Amalfi works too, you'll just spend more time commuting. Not as frequented as other places in the Vatican, but truly worth it! I visited it along with a temporary exhibition on Herculaneum, which was very engaging, and it offers a virtually unbeatable view of the entire city. From the outside, you'd never guess it holds so much to see. The Angel Terrace is fantastic, and the café inside is lovely, with prices that align with central tourist areas (not a tourist trap like some other museums). Definitely worth a visit! The audio guide could use some improvement—if you read the explanations in the rooms, you can skip it.

It formed inside the caldera of an older volcano, Mount Somma, giving it a unique "nested" structure: an ancient arc-shaped rim with a newer cone rising inside. 🔥 Vesuvius gained worldwide infamy from its eruption in 79 AD, when ash and pyroclastic flows buried Pompeii, Herculaneum, Stabiae, and Oplontis. The cities vanished, but thanks to the thick layer of ash, they were preserved in immaculate detail—from vibrant frescoes to haunting body casts. This fantastic little hotel was ideal for exploring Rome, located just 5 minutes from the station, making it easy to hop on the fast train to Naples and visit Pompeii and Herculaneum. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. Our 4th-floor room had air conditioning, keeping it cool, along with a free room safe, tea and coffee facilities, and was spotlessly clean. It also offered a wonderful view of the Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica. Booking directly gave us excellent value. Highly recommended, and we would definitely stay here again!

It feels like the volcanic eruption of AD 79 happened just yesterday. Side note: Regarding Naples, the city streets are paved with old cobblestones that are hard to clean, so it can be quite dirty—choose walking carefully when getting around. The Naples Archaeological Museum has three floors with a large collection. The main exhibition area is on the 2nd floor.
