🧏🏻♀️ Review the past and learn the new
The high-level bridge is still in active service, and although rail traffic on the upper level is operating normally, most trunk trains have been converted to the nearby King Edward VII bridge (King Edward VII bridge), while the lower road section allows only limited use by buses and taxis.
💁🏻♀️ Visit TIPS
The view of Doqiao Bridge is so beautiful no matter what time of day, but it feels brighter and safer to go during the day.

Window shopping at Gateshead, near the Famous Gateshead Bridge. The city is walkable and has cafes and coffee shops so you can relax as you decide what you just "must" go back and purchase. Worth a visit, especially if you are an art lover. #happynewyear

Newcastle
Newcastle & Gateshead bring together riverside views, epic sunrise walks, and a sweet mix of classic and modern architecture ☀️🏞️ If you love strolling along a vibrant city dotted with historic bridges and café stops, plus a dash of uni-town buzz—this trip’s for you!
Top Spots to Visit:
Start early at Newcastle Swing Bridge for sunrise shots ☀️ (this bridge is such a vibe with the morning light reflected off the Tyne). Slow walk up the Quayside—don’t rush! You’ll clock iconic sights like the High Level Bridge and Tyne Bridge. Duck into Slug & Lettuce Quayside (Exchange Buildings) for coffee or brunch—lively atmosphere and riverside views.
Explore Quayside Sunday Market, then head for history at St Thomas' Newcastle (St Mary's Pl, NE1 7PF)—check out their open hours, as they're varied by day. Grab drinks later at Tiger Hornsby (8-10 Close), or go posh at House of Tides (Michelin-starred, 28-30 Close) for dinner.
For greenery, Civic Centre Gardens and City Retreat on Queen Street offer a chill break—perfect places to recharge. If you’re craving a coffee, small indie spots like Kuppa Coffee are on point. Landmark and Dobson and Parnell are fab stops for architecture lovers.
Top Tips:
- The best morning walks: Start early over the bridges for sunrise (pack a portable coffee!)
- Stay: Premier Inn Newcastle City Centre (Quayside)—clean, comfortable rooms, friendly staff, but watch out for limited parking and ongoing refurbishments.
- Getting around: Walking is best! All key sights are tightly packed, so just follow the river.
- Eat/drink: Try brunch at Slug & Lettuce, espresso at Kuppa Coffee, and cocktails at Livello.
- Weather’s moody! Pack a light rain jacket. Most spots are outdoor with epic city views.

🍁 Saltwell Park – Twisted Trunks & Autumn Magic 🌳
#falladventures 🍁 Saltwell Park – Twisted Trunks & Autumn Magic 🌳
An autumn walk through this park feels like stepping into a natural sculpture gallery, especially where the trees grow with beautifully twisted, intertwined trunks. Their shapes look almost hand-carved, forming arches and loops that add character to every path. As the season deepens, golden leaves gather around the bases of these unique trees, creating warm contrast against the dark, textured bark. Afternoon light filters through the branches, casting long shadows that make the trunks look even more dramatic.
The lakeside becomes especially serene in autumn—ducks glide across still water that reflects shades of amber and soft grey. Families stroll along leaf-covered trails, while joggers enjoy the cool breeze moving through the park’s open lawns. The rose garden and quiet corners offer places to pause with a warm drink and take in the seasonal calm.
Saltwell Park feels like a blend of nature’s creativity and autumn’s beauty—peaceful, warm, and full of unforgettable shapes.

View from Hilton Gateshead
This was our view from the Hilton In Gateshead in Newcastle. We went for Sam Fender’s got on Thursday and it’s an ideal spot for a trip away to Newcastle. Only roughly a 20 minute walk to the city Centre with a metro station only around a 10 minute walk up the hill. Would highly recommend staying here as the hotel feels very bougie. Rooms are nice and clean and they offer onsite parking.

If you’re into art (or just love a good rooftop view), the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art is an absolute must-visit! Set in a converted flour mill right on the River Tyne, this gallery is all about bold, modern, and sometimes totally mind-blowing exhibitions. The best part? There’s no permanent collection, which means every time you visit, there’s something new and exciting to see! I loved wandering through the different exhibits, soaking up the creativity, and even getting involved with some of the interactive pieces. And let’s talk about the viewing platform—the panoramic views of the Tyne Bridge and Newcastle’s skyline are stunning, especially at sunset! Whether you’re an art lover or just looking for a cool, free activity in Newcastle, this place is so worth it. Plus, the café serves amazing coffee with an even better view—total vibes!
