Helsingborg travel guide and discussion

Copenhagen serves as the capital, the largest city, and the principal port of the Kingdom of Denmark. As the nation's political, economic, cultural, and transportation hub, it stands out as a world-renowned international metropolis. Recognized by the United Nations as the "most livable city globally," Copenhagen also proudly ranks among the happiest cities in the world. Transportation 🚌 Buses: Download the FlixBus or Omio app. There are daily direct buses from Oslo, the capital of Norway 🇳🇴, to Copenhagen, Denmark 🇩🇰. The route passes through the Swedish 🇸🇪 cities of Gothenburg, Helsingborg, and Malmö. From Malmö, you'll cross a spectacular cross-sea bridge to reach Denmark. The bus usually crosses the bridge right at sunset, offering absolutely breathtaking views. Since the cost of living in the Nordic region is notoriously high, a one-way bus ticket 🎫 costs €37.90 💶, so it's highly recommended to keep an eye on prices and book in advance. 🚌 Buses & Carpooling: You can use FlixBus or the European carpooling app BlaBlaCar to travel directly from Copenhagen 🇩🇰 to Hamburg, Germany 🇩🇪. Living costs in both Denmark and Germany are steep, which makes FlixBus tickets 🎫 on this route quite pricey—about €45 💶 for a one-way trip. However, I managed to book a ride with a driver via BlaBlaCar for just £25 💷. Whether you opt for a bus or a carpool, booking early is definitely the way to go. 🚌 City Public Transit: Download the DOT Tickets app and grab a day pass. The ticket 🎫 costs 90 DKK. 📍Helsingør | A town in northern Denmark🌊 The sea breeze sweeps over Kronborg Castle (Hamlet's Castle), where the story of Shakespeare's Hamlet echoes. A World Heritage site, it stands at the throat of the Øresund Strait, where tolls were once collected. The stone castle, with its iconic copper-green spires, offers views across the sea to Sweden. Stroll through the colorful streets of the old town, and experience real Nordic moments beyond the pages of a book with my daughter🌿📍Location: Helsingør, on the northern tip of Zealand, Denmark. Across the Øresund Strait lies Helsingborg, Sweden, about a 40-minute drive from Copenhagen.

As the largest country in Northern Europe, Sweden stretches over 1,500 km from north to south, with a vast range of character: the south features pastoral castles and colorful fishing villages, the center has forests, lakes, and ancient towns, and the northern Lapland enters the Arctic Circle, where auroras, reindeer, and Sami culture take turns appearing. City strolls, coastal island hopping, wilderness hiking, and aurora hunting all offer unique surprises. 🌍 Where to go in Sweden? 📍 Gothenburg & Bohuslän | Maximum West Coast Relaxation Gothenburg is Sweden's second-largest city, more laid-back than Stockholm, and the gateway to West Coast cuisine and the archipelago. You can explore the city slowly by tram, eat cinnamon rolls in the colorful wooden houses of the Haga district, visit the kid-friendly Universeum science center, or board submarines and warships at the Maritiman Maritime Museum. The Bohuslän coast is known as Sweden's "most beautiful coast," with fishing villages dotting the rugged granite shoreline. Smögen, Fjällbacka, and Grebbestad are classic towns perfect for eating oysters and lobster or kayaking through the fjords. Also recommended are the Tanum Rock Carvings (a World Heritage site) and Carlsten Fortress on Marstrand Island. 📍 Kiruna & Lapland | Auroras and Ice & Snow Wonders The premier region of Northern Sweden, one of Europe's last remaining wild frontiers. Kiruna is the largest city in the north, thriving on iron mining; the entire city is currently "relocating," and the underground mine tour feels like science fiction. The Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi is the world's first ice hotel, rebuilt annually with ice from the Torne River; sleeping in an ice-sculpted art suite is an unforgettable experience. Abisko National Park is the gold standard for aurora viewing, with a unique "blue hole" microclimate that ensures a high probability of clear skies, and the Aurora Sky Station cable car offers unobstructed views from the summit. The King's Trail (Kungsleden) is Sweden's most famous hiking route, with the Abisko section being the highlight. Jokkmokk is a hub for Sami culture, featuring reindeer racing and craft markets at the winter market in February. Classic experiences: dog sledding, snowmobiling, reindeer sledding, and Sami tent dinners. 📍 Skåne & Dalarna | Cultural Heritage and Pastoral Life Skåne is located at the southernmost tip of Sweden, featuring castles, white sandy beaches, and distinctive half-timbered towns, making it perfect for cycling exploration. The Turning Torso in Malmö is a landmark, just a half-hour train ride from Copenhagen; Lund is a thousand-year-old university town with a Romanesque cathedral worth seeing; Österlen has white beaches and art villages; Sofiero Castle Garden is stunning in spring and summer; in Helsingborg, you can climb the Kärnan tower to overlook the Danish coast. Dalarna represents traditional Swedish culture, where red wooden houses, Dala horses, and folk music originated. Visit Nusnäs to see Dala horses being hand-carved and painted, and even try it yourself; the Falun Copper Mine is a World Heritage site; the towns around Lake Siljan are picturesque, and the Midsummer festival celebrations are particularly grand. 📍 Gotland | Medieval Island Sweden's largest island. The entire Old Town of Visby is a World Heritage site, with intact medieval walls, cobblestone alleys, and church ruins. During Medieval Week in August, the whole city dresses up to travel back to the 14th century. Fårö Island is the spiritual home of director Ingmar Bergman, with stark and photogenic sea stacks. Cycle around the island, visit fishing villages, and watch the sunset—a summer vacation spot that is tranquil in winter. ✅ N Must-Do Experiences in Sweden 1. Hike the highlight section of the King's Trail: The Abisko to Kebnekaise section takes 2 days; you might encounter moose, and there are mountain huts for accommodation in summer. 2. Take the Inlandsbanan (Inland Line) train across the Arctic Circle: Coniferous forests and tranquil lakes outside the window, where solitude and romance coexist. 3. Go kayaking: In the Gothenburg or Stockholm archipelago, the view from the water is more interesting than exploring the city. 4. Attend the Jokkmokk Winter Market: The oldest Sami gathering in Northern Europe in early February; eat reindeer meat and watch sled dog racing. 5. Dog sledding or Icelandic horse riding: Traverse snowy forests near Kiruna for thrills you can't experience in the city. 🚗 Transportation Guide Train: SJ covers the whole country, with dense networks in the south and service to Kiruna in the north; book in advance for better deals. Discounts available for those under 26, students, and seniors. Bus: Flixbus and Vy offer great value, 30%–50% cheaper than trains, but slower, and schedules may be reduced on weekends and during summer. Ferry: Essential for visiting Gotland or island hopping; some road ferries are free, but book popular routes in advance. Car rental: Offers freedom but is expensive; road conditions are good, and there are no tolls. Drive on the right and keep headlights on at all times. Winter tires are mandatory from November to March. Watch out for moose and speed cameras. Bicycle: Southern Sweden is bike-friendly, with dedicated routes in Skåne and Småland; folding bikes can be taken on trains/buses. 🍽️ Dining & Accommodation Tips No mandatory tipping: You can round up a few kronor for good service, but no extra tipping is needed for hotel housekeeping or taxis. Bring your own sheets: STF hostels or budget accommodations often require you to bring your own bed sheets and duvet covers, or rent them on-site; be sure to check the booking terms. Age restrictions for alcohol: High-proof alcohol can only be purchased at Systembolaget; you must be 20 or older with a passport to enter, and they are closed on Sundays. Fika is a belief: Find a café anytime to sit down, have a cinnamon roll and coffee, and experience the daily ritual of the Swedes. 🗺️ Itinerary Reference 👉 Classic Southern Route: Stockholm 3 days (city + island hopping) → Train to Gothenburg 2 days (West Coast seafood) → Rent a car for Malmö/Lund 2 days (Skåne castles and pastoral life) → Return from Copenhagen. 👉 Winter Aurora Dream Route: Stockholm 2 days → Overnight train to Abisko 3 days (aurora hunting) → Kiruna 2 days (iron mine adventure, Icehotel, dog sledding) → Return. Save this guide and find an opportunity to go to Sweden to experience the aurora, islands, and the relaxation of fika~

Helsingør A Danish seaport city, known as the home of Hamlet and Copenhagen's backyard. It's only 40km away. Just buy a train ticket at the central station, and you'll be there in 50 minutes. The sea in Helsingør is stunning, and there are rows of colorful houses. If you're looking for a day trip from Copenhagen, I highly recommend this place! Just remember to pick a day with good weather. We used Helsingør Station for both arrival and departure. We walked along the coast on the way there and through the city on the way back, so we didn't retrace our steps. 🇩🇰 A half-day city walk in Helsingør (no retracing steps): 1️⃣ Helsingør Station This vintage station is a sight in itself. There are bronze statues of Hamlet and Ophelia at the entrance—the first little easter egg in the home of Hamlet. 2️⃣ Little Mermaid Brother statue Located on the coastal path between the station and Hamlet's castle, this mirrored statue reflects the sea and looks stunning in the sunlight. 3️⃣ Kronborg Castle Also known as Hamlet's Castle, this seaside fortress faces Helsingborg, Sweden, across the water. You can tour the royal chambers inside. Be sure to head to the back of the castle and walk along the dike to the beach. It's a popular spot for fishing with beautiful, open views—you might even spot seals if you visit in the autumn! 4️⃣ St. Olai's Church (Sankt Olai Kirke) Helsingør's cathedral is a very old medieval Gothic church. You can see its towering spire from all over town. 5️⃣ St. Mary's Church (Sankt Mari Kirke) Another ancient red-brick church, it is the best-preserved medieval monastery in Scandinavia. On your way back to Copenhagen, you can also stop by two attractions along the route: ▪️ Louisiana Museum of Modern Art ▪️ Jægersborg Dyrehave (Danish Royal Deer Park) This makes for a great 1-day trip around Copenhagen.

Hey! Today I want to share a super beautiful, hidden gem of a city in Sweden—Helsingborg 💖 Located in the Skåne province, this ancient coastal city sits at the narrowest point of the Øresund Strait. Across the water is Helsingør, Denmark, just a 20-minute ferry ride away—so convenient 🚢! It's about 60 km from Malmö and is known as the "Pearl of the Strait" 👀 Come along and check out these must-visit spots 👇 Kärnan (Old Town Landmark) A medieval red-brick castle tower and the symbol of Helsingborg! Buy a ticket to climb to the top for a panoramic view of the city and the Øresund Strait—the scenery is incredible 🏰 I even captured two little bunnies strolling in front of the tower in the photos; they were so cute~ When the castle lights turn on at night, the atmosphere is just perfect ✨ Stortorget (Main Square) This is the city center, home to the City Hall, cafes, and the old town pedestrian street where you can shop and eat to your heart's content—it's full of local life ☕🍴 Shopping and dining are all concentrated here, and it's a great spot for photos 📸 In short, Helsingborg is a perfect little city for a slow-paced stroll. Every shot is like a postcard, and that morning walk with the bunnies was so healing 🌙

Denmark | the castle at the edge of the world This castle faces the Øresund Strait Denmark UNESCO World Heritage site Elsinore Castle, the inspiration for Shakespeare’s Hamlet 🏰 Kronborg Slot Commonly known as Hamlet’s castle 🚞 How to get there? The castle is located in Helsingør, a coastal city north of Copenhagen Take the train from Copenhagen Depart from København H on the Coast Line. One-way trip takes 45 minutes Walk about 10 minutes from the station along the harbor If you have the CPH Copenhagen Card, this train ride is included 📍 Kronborg, 3000 Helsingør ❗ Closed on Mondays. Summer (May–September) 10:30 AM–5:00 PM. Other months 10:30 AM–3:00 PM. Check the official website for exact hours 🎫 150 DKK (included with CPH card) The castle is a prime example of Dutch Renaissance architecture, with a solid and robust style. It features a red copper roof (which oxidizes to a distinctive greenish-blue year-round), yellow sandstone walls, a symmetrical square fortress layout, multiple pointed gables, and long vertical windows. The reliefs and stone carvings are simple, without elaborate decoration. ✨ Highlights ▪️ 62-meter grand banquet hall The longest Renaissance hall in Northern Europe, where royal feasts were held. Reliefs and tapestries are well preserved ▪️ Underground defenses Secret tunnels, dungeons, and powder magazines. Be sure to explore the tunnels—they are cold, damp, and thrilling ▪️ Hamlet live performances Every summer, live performances of Hamlet take place throughout the castle. Check the schedule at the entrance ▪️ Climb the tower for views 🌟🌟🌟 A must-do! Climb the stairs to the observation tower for panoramic views of the Øresund Strait, the old town, and the yacht harbor ps The Maritime Museum of Denmark is right next to the castle and worth visiting. If you have time, take the 20-minute ferry to Helsingborg, Sweden, for a day trip to two countries. On the way back to Copenhagen, you can stop by the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, which is on the route.

Make sure to visit Helsingør on a clear day! This coastal city is located in northern Denmark and is just a 40-minute train ride from Copenhagen. I used the CPH card, which includes train tickets plus admission to several Helsingør attractions. If you don’t have the card, you’ll need to buy tickets from DSB. 1️⃣ Hamlet’s castle Kronborg Castle The model for Elsinore in Shakespeare’s play Hamlet, it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000. It’s the best-preserved Renaissance coastal fortress in Northern Europe. · Tower: Climb to the top for panoramic views of the city, the old town’s red brick houses and churches, ships docked by the sea, and across the strait, Helsingborg in Sweden. · Knight’s hall: The longest Renaissance hall in Northern Europe, filled with exquisite wood carvings and antique tapestries · Royal chambers: King and queen’s bedrooms with original 16th–17th century furniture, paintings, and gilded decorations · Church: A royal military church from the reign of Frederick II, with well-preserved reliefs and paintings · Dungeon: Dark and narrow, requiring you to bend down as you move through—an unusual experience · Bastion: The outer walls are lined with old cannons. From the ramparts, you can face the strait and see the Swedish coastline in the distance. · Hamlet performances: Short scenes performed at different times daily, scattered throughout the castle 2️⃣ Silver little mermaid Han Statue af Elmgreen og Dragset A standing nude boy sculpture made of polished stainless steel, fully silver and reflective 3️⃣ Danish National Maritime Museum M/S Maritime Museum Since my CPH card included it, I visited as well. It’s conveniently located near the castle. An underground immersive maritime museum built inside an old dry dock from 1955. Because the castle is a World Heritage site, no tall buildings are allowed above ground. The designers embedded the entire museum inside the 150-meter-long dry dock, with only glass ramps and bridges visible above ground, preserving the castle’s skyline. The collection covers Danish navigation, shipbuilding, ocean trade, and sailor life from 1400 to the present 4️⃣ The Culture Yard Kulturværftet Formerly the Helsingør iron shipyard, it retains the main red brick shipyard buildings, wrapped in a multifaceted triangular glass-fiber structure. Large floor-to-ceiling windows face the Øresund Strait, and the indoor viewing platform offers views of the sea and Sweden across the water. Inside are a library, a small shipyard museum, restaurants, and performance spaces 5️⃣ Take the ferry to Helsingborg, Sweden Experience crossing two countries in 20 minutes and visit two cities in one day. The ferry terminal is right across from the train station and very easy to find. I didn’t have time to try it, but the ferry offers duty-free shopping. There are many guides on Xiaohongshu. PS. On the way back, you can stop by the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, about 10 minutes away. The seaside lawn there is incredibly relaxing!

Kronborg Castle is situated in Helsingør, a city in northeastern Denmark, approximately 45 kilometers from the capital, Copenhagen. It sits at the narrowest point of the Øresund Strait, looking across the water to Helsingborg, Sweden—a location of immense strategic importance. In the early 15th century, King Eric VII of Denmark constructed a fortress here known as "Krogen" to control the waterway and collect "Sound Dues" from passing ships. Later, in the late 16th century, King Frederick II transformed it into the magnificent Renaissance royal castle we see today as Kronborg Castle. Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, the castle functioned primarily as military barracks, and briefly doubled as a prison. Renowned worldwide as the inspiration for "Elsinore Castle" in William Shakespeare's *Hamlet*, Kronborg holds a prestigious place in literary history. In 2000, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site and remains one of Denmark's most significant cultural treasures and popular tourist destinations.

#mytraveldiary Helsingborg—where medieval history meets modern Scandinavian cool—is even more captivating the second time around. Perched on the Öresund Strait, this city blends cobblestone charm, seaside vibes, and a laid-back energy that’s perfect for solo travelers looking to slow down and soak it all in. My Solo Itinerary (Encore Edition): · Morning – Kärnan Tower & Coffee Culture: Climbed the historic Kärnan Tower (again!) for panoramic views of the strait and Denmark’s coast. This time, I lingered longer, sketching the view and enjoying the quiet morning light. Then, wandered to Stortorget for fika at a cozy café—think cardamom buns and rich coffee. · Afternoon – Maritime Walks & Hidden Gardens: Strolled along the North Harbour (Norra Hamnen), admiring sleek boats and modern architecture. Revisited the Fredriksdal Open-Air Museum and botanical gardens, picnicking among blooming flowers and historic buildings. Explored the Sofiero Palace gardens (especially if visiting in spring for the rhododendron festival). · Evening – Sunset Views & Seafood Supper: Watched the sunset from Tropical Beach or the Dunkers Kulturhus terrace. Treated myself to a seafood dinner at a waterfront restaurant—think smoked salmon or shrimp sandwiches—with views of passing ferries and twinkling lights. Why Helsingborg Shines for Solo Travelers (Again!): · Easy & Safe: Walkable, clean, and incredibly safe—ideal for solo exploration. · Ferry Fun: Took a quick ferry to Helsingør, Denmark (home of Hamlet’s Kronborg Castle) for a spontaneous international day trip. · Local Vibe: Less touristy than Stockholm or Gothenburg, with a friendly, small-town feel. · Seasonal Beauty: Visited in summer for long, golden evenings or in autumn for crisp air and colorful foliage. Helsingborg is that rare blend of history, nature, and hygge—a city that feels both timeless and effortlessly cool. · -- Hashtags: #BackToHelsingborg #SwedenTravel #SoloScandinavia #CoastalVibes #NordicSlowTravel

I recently took a trip up north for a few days—I originally wanted to hike along the coast away from the crowds. My honest takeaway on Denmark in August and September: save your vacation days and your money, the value for money just isn't there this time of year. Why these months are barely worth it: 1. Daylight fades incredibly fast Starting in late August, it gets dark noticeably earlier. By September, the sun is already setting around 6:00 or 7:00 PM. If you're planning to spend a lot of time outdoors on foot, your window of opportunity becomes extremely short. You'll hardly have time for coastal hikes or visiting Kronborg Castle in Helsingør before you're left standing in the dark. 2. The weather is wildly unpredictable It is windy—really windy. One minute the sun is shining, and the next it's raining sideways. The wind chill makes it feel much colder than what the thermometer says. 3. High prices for fewer options Accommodation prices in Copenhagen are still at peak summer levels. Meanwhile, many smaller cafes, exhibitions, and ferry routes outside the major cities either close by late August or drastically cut their operating hours. So, you're paying full price for a limited experience. Not a very economical choice. If your tickets are already booked—here's how to salvage your trip: · Clothing: Forget your summer wardrobe. A windproof hardshell jacket and thin layers (layering up) are absolute must-haves. · Time management: Start your day as early as possible in the morning to make the most of the daylight. Once it gets dark, pivot to museums or breweries. · Food: Grab some smørrebrød and cinnamon rolls from local bakeries. The quality is great, and it's way cheaper than eating at overpriced restaurants. My final verdict: Denmark's scenery is pretty nice, but visiting in August/September is just a hassle. You're better off going in May or June. The days are endlessly long then, and the weather is much more stable.

8:10am Picked up my checked luggage 8:20am Monetka bought her train ticket (the airport trolley can be pushed all the way from the luggage carousel, through immigration, to the ticket machine, up the elevator, and downstairs to the train platform). 8. 37am I packed my luggage and boarded the train to Helsingborg C (Helsingborg residents ⚠️ should check the train schedule and wait for a train passing through Helsingborg). 9. 51am Arrived at Helsingborg C train station (the video shows the route times, but it's roughly half an hour from CPH Airport to Malmö, another quarter hour to Lund, and another half an hour to Helsingborg. If you're hungry, Helsingborg C is the best choice. There's a McDonald's and a milk tea shop right outside C Train Station. Take the bus 1-3 stops to the Furu/Bry dormitory (scan the QR code to get on any door, and ring the bell one stop before getting off. If the screen shows the stop in red, it means the driver knows to stop; otherwise, they'll just drive past. Also, if the door doesn't open at your stop, manually press the round button. You can walk there on weekdays, but if you have heavy luggage and a train ticket, you'll need to wait until 4 a.m. the next day to catch all the Herborg buses.) Get off the bus at 10:10 a.m. and walk for 5 minutes with your suitcase to the dormitory building! (I hadn't picked up my suitcase yet, so I had to follow others.)

Explored Helsingborg and it was soo amazing!! Swedish architecture is so beautiful. Sweden also have many castles around, including Helsingborg! I paid 80SEK to explore Känan, a swedish castle in Helsingborg, and it was no disappointment at all! Totally worth the visit! The view is spectacular at the top of the tower, with a free binoculars for you to look over to Copenhagen as well! Do visit Helsingborg if you have the time!

#外游 The beautiful Swedish city of Helsingborg Today we took a train from Halmstad and drove for nearly two hours to another city, Helsingborg, which is the closest point in Sweden to Denmark, across the Oresund Strait and the Danish city of Helsingor. There are many old buildings here, with a long history, and it is a seaside scenic spot. The city's architecture is old style, with stone-built churches, city center boundaries and more modern commercial buildings mixed together. There are many types of streets, from wide avenues to narrow paths. Our hotel is in the city center, which is very convenient to various attractions. After putting down our luggage, we wandered around the nearby attractions until after 8 o'clock in the evening before going to a nearby restaurant for dinner.
