Heqing travel guide and discussion

Hidden just outside of Dali lies an absolutely stunning wilderness retreat. Far from the hustle and bustle of the ancient city, you'll find nothing but rolling meadows, gorgeous rhododendrons, and surging seas of clouds. It's the perfect getaway for nature lovers seeking peace, quiet, and pristine landscapes. 📍 Must-Visit Highlights 1. Ma'er Mountain Alpine Meadow | Healing Wilderness Scenery · A rare, expansive alpine meadow in western Yunnan. Soft green grass blankets the mountainsides, offering boundless views. Gaze out at the endless mountain ranges—the lush greenery everywhere is truly therapeutic. · On sunny days, the brilliant blue sky and white clouds create the perfect backdrop for ethereal nature photography. The grass swaying in the wind simply radiates a relaxing vibe. · Suggested stay: 1 hour. Stroll through the meadow, feel the mountain breeze, capture panoramic shots, and enjoy the tranquility of being away from it all. 2. Rhododendron Sea | A Limited-Time Seasonal Marvel · The peak blooming season runs from April to June. Dozens of acres of wild rhododendrons burst into bloom, interweaving shades of pink, rose, and pure white to create a fairytale landscape. · The floral sea blends perfectly with the meadows and mountains, offering incredible depth for photos. No need to pose—every casual snap looks like a masterpiece. · Suggested stay: 1.5 hours. During the blooming season, a morning visit is highly recommended. The soft light and fewer crowds make for much better photos. 3. Mountaintop Observation Deck | A Prime Spot for Sunrises, Sunsets, and Seas of Clouds · The highest point of Ma'er Mountain offers a panoramic view of the entire landscape. On a clear day, you can even spot Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake in the distance. · Spectacular seas of clouds often appear in the early morning, rolling like a mystical wonderland. In the evening, the sunset bathes the wilderness in a breathtaking golden glow. · Suggested stay: 40 minutes. For the sea of clouds, aim to arrive before 6 AM. For the sunset, grab the best viewing spot early. 4. Wilderness Hiking Trail | A Pristine Trekking Experience · These pristine, untouched dirt paths wind through meadows, floral seas, and forests. The trek is easy and not physically demanding, making it ideal for beginners. · The scenery transforms with every step. Get up close and personal with the raw charm of Dali's wilderness, listen to the birds and mountain breeze, and let your stress melt away. · Suggested stay: 1 hour. Take it slow and savor the natural beauty along the way. 🚗 Transportation & Itinerary Suggestions · Transportation: Self-driving or hiring a private car is highly recommended. It’s about a 2 to 2.5-hour drive from downtown Dali. The mountain roads are winding, so drive carefully! There is no direct public transit, so attempting this via public transportation is not advised. · Itinerary: A half-day or full-day trip is ideal. A great route would be: Mountain Base → Alpine Meadow → Rhododendron Sea → Mountaintop Observation Deck → Hiking Trail. · Nearby Attractions: Consider pairing your visit with Eryuan and Fengyu Ancient Town to experience Dali’s charming countryside—perfect for a relaxed day trip. ✨ Sweet Reminders · There are zero shops on the mountain. Make sure to pack plenty of water, snacks, and food to keep your energy up. · Due to the high altitude, the temperature drops dramatically at night and the wind can be fierce. Always bring a heavy jacket or windbreaker, regardless of the season. · The trails can be steep. Wear comfortable, slip-resistant sneakers or hiking boots. Leave the sandals and high heels at home! · The rhododendrons are wild plants. Please do not pick the flowers or trample the bushes. Help protect the local ecosystem. · Check the weather before you go. Rain makes the mountain roads dangerously slippery and dulls the views. Sunny days guarantee the best experience. · Cell service on the mountain is spotty at best. Download offline maps in advance, stick to the marked trails, and never wander into undeveloped areas.

If you’re curious about Yunnan’s legendary “Snowflake Silver,” Heqing’s Xinhua Silverware Art Town is a must-see! Step inside a world where the Nakhi (Naxi) artisans shape silver into jewelry and ornate ware using centuries-old traditions. Don’t miss the massive, awe-inspiring silver entrance archway—it’s the largest silverwork in China, a true masterpiece gleaming in the sun! 🗺️ Itinerary & Must-dos: Start your visit in the morning to catch the craftspeople at work before larger tour groups arrive. Watch raw silver transformed at workshop stalls, then wander the lanes brimming with unique silver jewelry—each design brimming with local stories and folk flair. If you chat with the silversmiths, they may share the local belief: genuine silver helps the body “detox”—it’s said to turn black if it absorbs toxins! 📝 Tips & Precautions: · Address: 云南省大理白族自治州鹤庆县草海镇大羊线与新华公路交叉口西南60米 · Hours: 08:00–18:00 (Year-round) · Silver can tarnish, so ask craftspeople for care instructions to keep your treasures shining.w Also I do not recommend buying silver in small stalls or personal seller as there are many fakes one laying around. If you are unable to make it here, do get your silver in reputable vendor. And if you go to reputable silver with genuine receipt, they will normally offer that if you didn’t like your silverware, you are welcome to exchange for another one with the current market price. Psst.. many cheap one are normally not genuine. #Yunnan #Heqing #SilverArt #CulturalHeritage #TravelChina #chinatravelcircle

In Heqing along the northern route of Dali, there hides a treasured sanctuary known as the 'Jiangnan of the Plateau'—Huanglong Tan (Yellow Dragon Pool). As the most talked-about lake in the Heqing Caohai wetland system, it is renowned for its 'ancient trees rooted in water' and 'reflections of the Cangshan Mountains.' The water is as clear as a mirror, where even the tree branches weave an ethereal tapestry of reality and illusion on the surface, making it the most delightfully serene spot on the northern Dali route. ✨ Must-See Scenery by the Pool · Stunning Reflections of Ancient Trees in the Water The most iconic sight at Huanglong Tan is the old willow trees growing right out of the water. Their bare branches stretch across the surface, creating perfect symmetry with the underwater roots and their reflections. It looks like a geometric masterpiece hand-drawn by Mother Nature—every casual snapshot turns into a high-end editorial shot. · An Ecological Tapestry in the Water During spring and summer, the pool is dotted with pure white Ottelia flowers, creating a stunning contrast with the turquoise water; in late autumn and winter, the dormant trees and the setting sun paint a tender, cozy picture. The lake shimmers like it's dusted with crushed gold, and a profound sense of peace fills the air. · Ancient Architecture and Bai Ethnic Charm The historical buildings along the shore feature exquisite Bai-style archways and intricate wood carvings. The silhouette of the Cangshan Mountains behind the archway paired with the water's reflection in the foreground creates a perfect 'framed view' perspective. It's the ultimate spot to experience the seamless blend of Heqing’s local culture and natural beauty. 🌿 Pro Tips for Exploring & Snapping Photos · We highly recommend visiting early in the morning or around dusk. The soft lighting makes the water reflections crystal clear, and the golden hour sunlight spilling across the lake makes it look like an absolute dream. · Take your time strolling along the lakeside boardwalk. Every angle offers a fresh surprise of tree shadows and water hues. It’s the perfect place to zone out, take a walk, and escape the tourist crowds. · The water here is crystal clear to the bottom, and on sunny days, the turquoise surface is incredibly translucent. Don't forget your sunscreen—good lighting makes for picture-perfect shots! The true beauty of Huanglong Tan lies in its raw, unpolished serenity. You won't find loud, commercial hustle and bustle here; just peaceful waters, ancient trees, and the Cangshan Mountains. It’s a little slice of slow living hidden along the northern route of Dali.

Dali hides a "Pear Blossom Secret Realm"! Century-old pear trees bloom wildly across the mountains, free to visit and no crowds “Tired of Dali Ancient Town? A 1.5-hour drive hides a snowy white fairyland!” In March, Qifeng Village in Heqing is dyed white by century-old pear trees—the old trunks twist like ink paintings, pear blossoms so dense they bend the branches, terraced fields weave green circles beneath the sea of flowers, and when morning fog rises, the village looks wrapped in milk. Even locals secretly say, “This is the place to visit in Dali in spring!” 🌸 【Must-visit list: 3 spots covering all the beauty】 📍 Heqing Qifeng Pear Blossom Village | Free entry, best from mid-March to early April Follow this route, every shot looks like a masterpiece: · Village paths · Cool and serene atmosphere (Recommended ★★★★★): Wander down any stone path, where century-old pear trees stretch their branches overhead in all directions. Pear blossoms fall on blue tile roofs and earthen walls. Walk by in a light blue dress, the hem brushing petals, and when the wind blows, it looks like snow is falling. No need to find special angles—point your phone at the ground to capture “petals covering shoes” or shoot upward to catch “sunlight filtering through flowers,” instantly boosting the serene vibe. · Back mountain ridge · Panoramic wow factor (Recommended ★★★★☆): Hike 10 minutes up to the ridge, and the view will make you scream—the entire sea of pear blossoms stretches from your feet to the distant mountains. Among the white-flowered trees are layers of green terraced fields, and the mountain peaks still hold some snow, creating amazing depth. Arrive before 9 AM to shoot silhouettes against the backlight (people standing on the ridge with flower seas and terraces behind), and your social feed will be flooded with questions about the location. · Huanglong Pond · Reflection killer shot (Recommended ★★★★☆): Not far from the village, Huanglong Pond’s surface is like a mirror in the early morning, reflecting the pear blossoms on the shore and the green mountains behind, blurring the line between reality and reflection. Find a rock to sit on and wait for the sunlight to turn the mist golden. Snap the shutter then, and even photography beginners can capture “National Geographic style” shots. 🚗 【Transport + insider tips from locals】 ✅ Driving is best: From Dali Ancient Town, navigate to “Heqing Qifeng Pear Blossom Village,” a 1.5-hour drive. The road is good but the last 3 kilometers are mountain roads, so drive slowly. There’s a free parking lot at the village entrance; park and walk 2 minutes into the village. ✅ Arrive early for 3 hours of unique beauty: · Before 7 AM: Catch the morning fog, with pear blossoms faintly visible like living ink paintings; · Around 9 AM: Perfect sunlight for portraits without backlight, petals still covered in dew; · After 12 PM: More tourists arrive, to shoot “empty scenes” head deeper into the village. ✅ Outfit tips to avoid mistakes: Wear white, light blue, or beige tones; Hanfu or long dresses match the pear blossoms’ elegance best. Avoid bright red or purple (too harsh against the white flowers). Wear a straw hat to block the sun and use as a photo prop. Village elders say, “These pear trees are older than my grandfather, and every year when they bloom, it’s like greeting the mountains.” Check road conditions on Trip.com, pick a sunny day to go, and leave a comment “Heqing Pear Blossom” for the “best Huanglong Pond shooting spot” (under the crooked willow tree on the southeast corner, where reflections are most symmetrical)~ This spring, take a walk in Dali’s “sea of snow”—after all, a free, uncrowded century-old pear blossom secret realm isn’t found everywhere. Miss these 20 days, and you’ll have to wait until next year to see the trees covered in white again! 📌 Tips: The village has only one small shop selling bottled water and instant noodles, so bring some snacks; the pear blossom season is short and a single rain can blow all the flowers away, so check the weather forecast before you go~

Pitfall Tips · Warm Reminders from the Authorities Based on consumer tips from the Dali Prefecture Market Supervision Administration and Dali Prefecture Consumer Association, here are some pitfall avoidance guidelines: 1️⃣ Be cautious when traveling, watch out for contract details to avoid traps · Beware of "zero group fee" and "free travel" promotional traps · Always sign a written travel contract specifying itinerary, standards, costs, and refund/change policies 2️⃣ Focus on quality when buying specialties, identify rationally and keep receipts · Check silverware for purity marks (e.g., S925, sterling silver) · Understand if tie-dye is made with traditional plant dyes and handmade · Ask about origin and year when buying tea · Stay rational and beware of aggressive sales for jade, medicinal herbs, and other valuables 3️⃣ Pay attention to details in dining and accommodation, clearly refuse hidden charges · Check the menu carefully before ordering; confirm units and prices for "market price" dishes · Verify room type, price, and cancellation policy when booking accommodation · If promotions don’t match or prices increase suddenly, communicate promptly to resolve 4️⃣ Bargaining tips for shopping in the ancient town · Skirts in Lijiang Ancient Town cost about 70 RMB; don’t buy shawls over 40 RMB without bargaining · For shawls and tie-dye crafts in the ancient town, bargaining to half price is standard 5️⃣ Sunscreen! Sunscreen! Sunscreen! · Dali has very strong UV rays; high SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, and sun hats are essential · Bring moisturizer as Yunnan is very dry 6️⃣ Other practical tips · Large temperature difference between morning and night; wear sweater + windbreaker + scarf, mild during the day and cool at night · Renting a vehicle around Erhai Lake: electric scooters can’t cover the full 100+ km, rent high-power electric scooters (about 80 RMB/day) for partial lake tours · Flower cakes: don’t buy 10 packs for 100 RMB (tastes bad), try freshly baked cherry blossom or peach blossom cakes · Beware of touts: don’t trust offers like "horseback ride up the mountain to see the panorama" in the ancient town, no safety guarantee

For the first time, I felt that a place could be so poetic and relaxing. I spent a whole day in the hotel and felt so relaxed. The whole building complex is a three-courtyard house. The first courtyard has three rooms and a screen wall, and the second and third courtyards have four rooms and five patios. The four rooms and five patios refer to the four buildings on each side, with a small patio at each corner and a large patio in the center. The Bai-style architecture features "blue tiles, white walls, ink paintings, carved windows, and screen walls" and is fully reflected here. The hotel has a strong ethnic style and is a typical Bai-style house. The interior decoration is very textured, and the photos taken inside are very beautiful. The room is spacious and clean, and the view from the room is full of blue sky and white clouds. The hotel owner makes tea while explaining the local customs and culture, which is very suitable for those who want to experience the local Bai culture. The hotel has a rich cultural heritage, and I recommend everyone to come and check in.

I just got back from these places, and I honestly advise everyone not to just crowd into popular cities for National Day! It's not that those places aren't fun, but these are such hidden gems that once you visit, you might find other places underwhelming. 🏞️Xingyi ✨Highlights A must-visit for kids: Wanfenglin. Ride the small train through karst peaks and rice paddies—it's like stepping into a landscape painting from a textbook. Maling River Canyon is even more breathtaking. Walk the cliffside trails with your kids, with roaring waterfalls beneath your feet and refreshing mist on your face. ✨Itinerary Day 1: Arrive in Xingyi > Cycle or take a sightseeing car in Wanfenglin, then head to Xiangchou Market for dinner in the evening. Day 2: Hike Maling River Canyon > Return to the city to try local flavors. ✨Food recommendations You must try Zouji Chicken Tangyuan (glutinous rice balls). The savory filling is chewy and fragrant—my kid even drank all the soup. ✨Travel tips 1. The sightseeing paths in Wanfenglin are flat, making it easy to bring a scooter or rent a family bike. 2. The canyon trails can be slippery, so we recommend non-slip shoes for kids and bringing a light jacket. 3. Taxis between attractions are convenient, so there's no need to rent a car. 💧Heqing ✨Highlights It has the same sea of grass and blue skies as Dali, but almost no tourists. Take the kids for a walk by the grass sea to watch egrets fly by, then explore Xinhua Village to see artisans hammering silver—the kids won't be able to look away. The wooden boardwalk at Huanglongtan extends into the lake, with ancient willows reflected on the water; every photo looks like a postcard. ✨Itinerary Day 1: Stroll through Xinhua Village > Watch water birds at the Caohai Wetland, then relax by the lake in the evening. Day 2: Huanglongtan Park > Find snacks in the old town streets. ✨Food recommendations Heqing "blown liver" has a unique texture. Sliced thin and dipped in a sour and spicy sauce, it's appetizing and addictive. ✨Travel tips 1. The high-altitude UV rays are strong, so sun hats and sunglasses are essential. 2. There are no railings on the boardwalk by the grass sea, so hold your little one's hand. 3. The town has a slow pace, and many small shops close in the afternoon, so plan your meals accordingly. 🌿Ji'an ✨Highlights Bailuzhou Academy is hidden in the middle of the Gan River. Taking a boat to the island instantly brings peace, with towering ancient trees and the sound of reading, allowing kids to experience a thousand years of culture. Meibei Ancient Village is a filming location for the movie "Sparkling Red Star." The bluestone roads and Ming and Qing dynasty houses are well-preserved and not overly commercialized. ✨Itinerary Day 1: Bailuzhou Academy > Walk to Binjiang Park to see the river view. Day 2: In-depth tour of Meibei Ancient Village > Buy some thin crispy cakes before heading home. ✨Food recommendations Ji'an stir-fried rice noodles are full of smoky flavor. The noodles are chewy and the shredded pork is tender—a bowl for breakfast is the perfect energy boost. ✨Travel tips 1. You need to take a boat to the academy; check the last boat time and don't stay too late. 2. There are many stone roads in the ancient village, so it might be a bit bumpy for strollers. 3. Local dishes tend to be spicy, so remember to ask for non-spicy options when ordering for kids. ⛰️Lianzhou ✨Highlights Lianzhou Underground River is a natural air conditioner. Take a boat through the massive karst cave, where stalactites of various shapes will have the kids saying "wow" the whole time. A boat trip through the Huangchuan Three Gorges is even more relaxing, with emerald green water and sheer cliffs on both sides, where you can still see traces of the ancient towpaths. ✨Itinerary Day 1: Lianzhou Underground River > Check into the city in the evening. Day 2: Huangchuan Three Gorges boat trip > Walk around Longtan Ancient Town. ✨Food recommendations Xingzi beef noodles have a rich broth and tender beef—a bowl is especially warming after exploring the caves. ✨Travel tips 1. The temperature inside the underground river cave is around 18°C year-round, so remember to bring jackets for the whole family. 2. Keep a close eye on your kids during the boat trip and don't let them put their hands outside the boat. 3. The area has many mountain roads; drive slowly if you're self-driving, or hire a car if you're a beginner.

There's a big temperature difference between day and night, so remember to bring a light jacket for the little ones. 4. When choosing silverware, look for 999 pure silver. Representative buildings include the former residence of Li Hengchun (founder of the Tongxinde trading firm), etc., and decorative arts such as wood carvings, stone carvings, paintings, and screen walls are largely well-preserved. It is an important birthplace of the Heqing merchant group. The Heqing merchants traded in goods such as tea and silk, and their trading firms reached places like Hong Kong and India. Residential area, no admission fee, self-driving, no parking fee. Address: Jinchihe (He) Village, Yinhao Village, Jindun Township, Heqing County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. Some courtyards of the traditional dwellings are still inhabited. The gate of Li Hengchun's residence is locked, and it is not yet fully open to the public. Tongxinde was founded in 1850, primarily dealing in precious medicinal herbs. Seeing the scale of Li Hengchun's former residence, I could still feel the commercial strength of the Heqing merchant group from over 150 years ago.

While organizing my travel guides recently, these places left a deep impression on me. They are all destinations reachable by high-speed rail in about two hours, perfect for a spontaneous weekend trip. They are uncrowded, beautiful, and relaxing to visit. Heqing Dali and Lijiang are too crowded, so why not turn your attention to Heqing? Known as a "water town on the plateau," the Caohai Wetland is truly breathtaking. Visiting in summer, you're surrounded by cool, refreshing greenery. Taking a small boat through the reed marshes, with the blue sky and the distant Jade Dragon Snow Mountain reflected in the water, the sense of tranquility is incredibly healing 🌿 There are almost no tourists in the county town. You can stroll leisurely through Xinhua Village, watching artisans hammer silver, the clinking sounds full of local life. Buy a handmade small silver pot or a simple silver ring; the prices are much more reasonable than in major tourist spots. In the evening, have a bowl of hot pig liver rice noodles—sour, spicy, and appetizing, it's a flavor locals have grown up with. Kaifeng If you want an immersive experience of the Song Dynasty's splendor, Kaifeng will definitely surprise you. Be sure to stay until evening when the lights of the Millennium City Park turn on; it feels like stepping into a painting. The "Tokyo Dream Splendor" live performance is stunning—not just a perfunctory light show, but a perfect blend of water curtains, song, dance, and storytelling that lets you truly feel the grandeur of the ancient capital 🏮 During the day, you can visit Daxiangguo Temple and zone out to the sound of Buddhist music. For food, don't miss the Gulou Night Market. You must try the stir-fried jelly noodles with a crispy bottom, drizzled with garlic sauce and chili oil—it's the soul of this trip. Also, try the almond tea; a bowl full of toppings, warm and sweet, perfect for warming your hands and stomach after a night tour. Taiyuan Many people treat Taiyuan as a transit stop, but it's actually worth stopping to savor. This ancient city has a laid-back yet profound character. Spending half a day at the Shanxi Museum is a must; artifacts like the Bird-shaped Zun and Owl-shaped You are both cute and full of history. The creative ice creams are also worth buying for a photo op 📸 If you like ancient architecture, I recommend visiting Jinci Temple. Seeing the coiling dragon pillars of the Hall of the Holy Mother and the Nanlao Spring, you'll understand why Liang Sicheng marveled at them back in the day. When you're tired, find a noodle shop in the old town alleys for some braised noodles. The hand-pulled noodles are chewy, the sauce is thick and savory, and every slurp is pure, carb-filled comfort. Pair it with a small dish of radish skin pickled in aged vinegar—refreshing and palate-cleansing, it's the authentic way Taiyuan locals treat their guests. Shijiazhuang The last one is amazing! Many people have stereotypes about Shijiazhuang, thinking there's nothing to do, but the Ancient City of Zhengding will truly overturn your expectations. This small city is packed with treasures. The Back-facing Guanyin in Longxing Temple is breathtakingly beautiful; even Lu Xun called her the "Eastern Goddess of Beauty." The night view of the ancient city is even more moving than during the day. From the South City Gate, you can overlook the brilliant lights along the central axis. With the evening breeze blowing, it's so comfortable you won't want to leave 🚄 You must try Zhengding's "beng gan" (stir-fried beef liver). The beef liver is sliced and stir-fried—dry, fragrant, and slightly spicy. The more you chew, the better it tastes; it's a unique flavor you won't find elsewhere. Two days on the weekend is just enough to explore the whole ancient city—the pace is perfect, and the costs are budget-friendly. Every place has its own unique scenery, so pick one you like and set off!

Stop 118 on the Ancient Tea Horse Road: Hualong Village, Heqing, Dali, Yunnan. This is one of the best-preserved traditional residential clusters from earlier eras in Heqing County. ☁️ It preserves traditional Bai-style residences from the Ming and Qing dynasties to the Republic of China era, featuring the "four courtyards with five skylights," "three workshops and one screen wall," and the unique "Five Phoenix Tower" layout. ☁️ Representative buildings include the Yang Family's four courtyards with five skylights, the Five Phoenix Tower, Baima Temple, and Baishu Temple, all showcasing exquisite architectural craftsmanship. Residential area, no admission ticket required, self-driving, no parking fees. Address: Hualong Village, Jindun Township, Heqing County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. The traditional residences are still inhabited.

If Xinhua Village is the cultural calling card of Heqing, then Huanglongtan and Caohai are its natural soul. I've always felt that you have to get an early start to see the best scenery. So that day, I set my alarm for 6:00 AM and headed out in the dark before sunrise. It turned out to be the best decision I made on this trip. 🌅 Huanglongtan at 6:30 AM: Like stepping into an ink-wash painting Huanglongtan is located 2 km southwest of Heqing County, at the foot of Luofeng Mountain, and is free to enter. When I arrived, it was just starting to get light, and a thin layer of mist was drifting over the pool, creating a hazy, dreamlike atmosphere. There is a row of ancient willow trees by the pool with twisted trunks and branches drooping over the water; in the mist, you can only see their blurred outlines. As the sun slowly rose, light filtered through the mist and spilled onto the water, transforming the scene from gray-blue to warm gold. I stood by the pool, completely mesmerized. This didn't feel real; it was like a living ink-wash painting. The water is so clear that you can see the aquatic plants and small stones at the bottom. When the surface is calm, the reflections of the mountains and ancient willows are clearly mirrored in the water, making it hard to tell what's real and what's a reflection. I walked around the pool, which took about an hour. Along the way, I only encountered locals out for their morning exercise; there were almost no tourists. An elderly man was practicing Tai Chi by the pool, his movements slow and graceful—it fit the environment perfectly. 📸 Photography tips · 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM is the best time for light, and the morning mist is at its thickest · Wear plain-colored clothing; white, beige, and light blue all look great in photos · Use your phone's portrait mode to blur the background and maximize the atmosphere · The area under the ancient willow trees is the best spot for photos; just standing there makes for a great shot 🌾 Dongcaohai Wetland Park: The poetry of a highland water town It's a 10-minute drive from Huanglongtan to Dongcaohai. This is a national wetland park, also free to enter, with walking and cycling paths around the lake that span about 12 km. I rented a bicycle and rode slowly along the lake. Caohai is truly beautiful, with vast stretches of reeds that look like golden waves when the wind blows. The water sparkles, and occasionally birds fly by, leaving ripples in their wake. Halfway through the ride, I saw a lotus pond. Although it wasn't midsummer, there were still a few scattered lotus flowers blooming—they were pink and especially pretty. The boardwalks at Caohai are well-maintained. Walking on them, surrounded by aquatic plants and reeds, with the rustling sound of the reeds in the wind, is incredibly healing. I sat on the boardwalk for a long time, not thinking about anything, just staring at the water, and felt completely refreshed. 💧 Heilongtan: The soul water of the Silver Capital water town I went to Heilongtan in the afternoon; it's right next to Xinhua Village. The water in Heilongtan is even clearer than in Huanglongtan—a deep, clear green where you can see the stones and aquatic plants at the bottom perfectly. There are Bai ethnic-style buildings by the pool, with white walls and gray tiles reflected in the water, giving it a distinct Jiangnan water town feel. When I visited, some local aunties were washing vegetables by the pool, chatting and laughing—it felt very authentic and full of life. There is a "Lovers' Bridge" by the pool, a stone arch bridge. Standing on the bridge to look at the scenery offers a great view. Locals say the water in Heilongtan bubbles up from underground and maintains a constant temperature year-round. In winter, steam rises from the surface, making it look like a fairyland. 🍃 The slow pace of Heqing is etched in its bones After spending two days in Heqing, my biggest takeaway is that the people here really know how to live. Waking up in the morning for a walk by the pool, sunbathing and drinking tea in the courtyard at noon, cycling at Caohai in the afternoon, and watching the stars at night. There's no anxiety about rushing through an itinerary, no "must-visit" attractions to check off—everything is slow and leisurely. This slow pace isn't something manufactured; it's etched in the bones of the place. Heqing is like a corner forgotten by time. The hustle and bustle of Dali and Lijiang have nothing to do with it; it just sits there quietly, waiting for those who appreciate it to discover it. 📌 Practical information · Huanglongtan: Free, recommended to arrive before 7:00 AM · Dongcaohai: Free, bike rental is about 20 yuan/hour · Heilongtan: Free, can be visited together with Xinhua Village · Best season: Beautiful all year round, steam rises from the water in winter, and there are lotus flowers in summer · Transportation: Self-driving or taking a taxi is recommended, all attractions are very close to the county town · -- The place I stayed that night was right by Huanglongtan, just a two-minute walk to the water. The house was newly built but used a lot of old timber, giving it an antique, charming look. The room had a floor-to-ceiling window facing the pool. When I opened the curtains in the morning, the mist-covered Huanglongtan greeted my eyes—at that moment, I really felt it was worth it. Lying in bed at night, I could hear the gentle sound of the water lapping against the shore and the croaking of frogs in the distance, like natural white noise. I slept incredibly well. · --

☀️ While you're fighting the crowds in the ancient towns of Dali and Lijiang, ⛱️ I discovered a hidden gem of a town between them: Heqing. 🌲 It's as quiet as a paradise on earth. 🏠 Even better, I stayed in a 200-year-old traditional Bai mansion here, ☕️ experiencing a day of slow living like a wealthy family. 🏮 📍 About Heqing Heqing is known as the "Silver Capital and Water Town." It isn't overly commercialized, featuring only clear Longtan water and the clinking sounds of silver being crafted for over a thousand years. 🚗 Getting here by car 1️⃣ About 1 hour and 20 minutes by car from Shuanglang Ancient Town in Dali 2️⃣ About 50 minutes by car from Lijiang Ancient Town 3️⃣ Even closer from Lijiang Sanyi Airport, about 20 minutes. 🏠 Accommodation: Yuhoudanmoshui The highlight of this trip was experiencing a century-old Bai mansion. Located in the heart of Heqing Ancient Town, stepping inside feels like traveling back in time. Originally a traditional 100-year-old Bai residence, it has been carefully renovated by designers to retain the rustic charm of the "three rooms and one screen wall" architecture while incorporating modern comfort. With blue-tiled roofs, wooden beams, and carved windows, drinking tea in the courtyard in the morning with the sunlight streaming down truly gives you a sense of serenity. ‼️ 2-day, 1-night Heqing itinerary 1️⃣ Ancient town stroll and silver culture Noon: Arrive in Heqing. Check into Yuhoudanmo. Walk through Fugui Lane and Ximen Street, see the Yunhe Tower (a Ming Dynasty building), and feel the slow pace of the small town. Afternoon: Visit Xinhua Silver Village. Known as the place where "small hammers have been tapping for a thousand years," you can watch artisans crafting silver by hand and visit the silver museum for free. If it's a weekend evening, there's also a bonfire party performance in the silver village. 2️⃣ Water town scenery and wetland healing Early morning: You must go to Huanglongtan! The morning mist combined with the reflections of ancient willow trees looks just like an ink painting—perfect for photos. Then head to Dongcaohai National Wetland Park to see the vast reed beds and lotus flowers; if you're lucky, you might even spot migratory birds. Afternoon: You can relax at a trendy cafe with a waterwheel near Huanglongtan and quietly enjoy the beautiful water town scenery. 🎉 Everyone, hurry up and go before this place gets popular! 🐛

In Jianchuan, the seventh lunar month is the mildest time of the year. Rain nourishes the land, rice flowers fill the air with fragrance, corn is ready to ripen, and the valley is lush and green. Nourished by thousands of years of agricultural civilization, the people of all ethnic groups in Jianchuan take advantage of the farming lull to welcome a grand festival—the Shibaoshan Song Festival. In 2008, the Shibaoshan Song Festival was included in the second batch of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Every year, from the 27–29 of the seventh lunar month, tens of thousands of people from all ethnic groups in Jianchuan and surrounding areas—including Dali, Eryuan, Yunlong, Lanping, Heqing, and Lijiang—flock to Shibaoshan. This year's festival is deeply integrated with the 2026 'Intangible Cultural Heritage Dali Tour' series of events. The 2026 'East Asian Capital of Culture: China Dali Activity Year'—'Intangible Cultural Heritage Dali Tour' Dali Cultural Ecological Protection Zone Achievement Exhibition and the 'Millennium Song Festival, Famous City Jianchuan' Shibaoshan Song Festival series of events kicked off grandly in the Ancient City of Jianchuan. Representative intangible cultural heritage projects from 7 cultural ecological protection zones outside the province, as well as from various provincial, prefectural, and county locations, brought wonderful performances and products. Events such as the intangible cultural heritage market, song and dance performances, the Ah Peng Music Season, and themed photography exhibitions were held in succession. The Shibaoshan Song Festival is known as the 'Bai Valentine's Day' and 'China's Song City.' Young men and women attending the festival, holding dragon-head sanxian and dressed in traditional ethnic costumes, gather at Shibaoshan. Using songs as a medium and strings to convey emotions, their singing is filled with lingering longing, a yearning for a better life, and a passion that has remained unchanged for thousands of years. In Shibaoshan, the most moving scenery is found not only on the singing stages but also among the mountains and forests. In the small woods by the roadside, on the stone steps in front of ancient temples, and under the cliffs by clear streams, singers sit on the ground or stand, improvising and playing. The sanxian rings out, the Bai songs drift, the singers exchange verses, and the onlookers listen intently—this is the original essence of the song festival. Elders say that to attend the festival, one must bring a plastic sheet and a flashlight; if you find a singing partner during the day, the singing continues by the bonfire or in the woods throughout the night. In addition to the singing, this year we also invited the internet-famous Jingpo sword dancer Yuan Zhiping. He blends ethnic dance with modern aesthetics, delivering a performance full of power. From the opening gala on September 4, the Ah Peng Music Season, and the intangible cultural heritage market, to the opening ceremony at Shibaoshan, the forest singing, and the bonfire party, I have used my lens to record this feast of intangible cultural heritage. I am now sharing a selection of these works with you, so we can all experience the thousand-year echo of this mountain song city.

Yunnan, to me, was once just a colorful patch of imagination on a map—until I stepped onto the flagstones of Kunming’s Green Lake, glimpsed the white cap of Dali’s Cangshan Mountain, and heard the murmuring waters of Lijiang’s Jade Spring. It was then I realized this land is not merely a collection of scenery, but a three-dimensional history of architecture and ancient trade routes. Over a ten-day journey starting from Kunming, passing through the ancient cities of Dali, Dayan, and Shuhe, and finally summiting the 4,680-meter peak of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, every step was a dialogue with history. Spring City’s Opening Chapter: A Diverse Overture Under the Eaves Kunming was my first stop. The old Western-style mansions by Green Lake and the yellow walls and red tiles of the Yunnan Military Academy reveal this "Spring City" as a historical gateway for Central Plains culture entering Yunnan. Walking through the old streets and looking up, one can spot a ceramic guardian beast—the Wa Mao (Roof Cat)—perched quietly on the ridges of Yunnan-style dwellings. The Kunming Roof Cat is round-headed, either black-glazed or unglazed, with an open mouth and a proud stance; it looks like a cat but carries the spirit of a tiger. It is a fusion of the Central Plains' roof-beast culture and the tiger totems of Yunnan’s various ethnic groups. Artisans say it has the "look of a cat but the strength of a tiger." This vessel of clay and fire, perched upon the tiles, is meant to swallow wind, gather energy, and protect the home from evil, setting the tone for Yunnanese architecture from the very first glance: "the unity of utility and belief." Dali Ancient City: White Walls, Soaring Eaves, and the "Three Rooms and a Screen Wall" When I arrived in Dali, the famous Xiaguan wind was brushing past the eaves of the Wenxian Building. The most profound impact of Bai ethnic dwellings lies not in grandeur, but in restraint. The Bai people’s affinity for white gives the entire city a foundation of white walls and dark tiles. The roof ridges and eaves soar high, looking as if they are about to take flight, while the wood carvings and colorful paintings beneath are as delicate as fine brushwork. Only by walking into the alleys can one understand the wisdom of the layout. The classic Bai "Three Rooms and a Screen Wall" (Sanfang Yizhaobi) features a main house facing east, flanked by two wings to form a "U" shape, with an exquisite screen wall closing the eastern side. This design blocks the fierce Xiaguan wind while reflecting the light and shadows of the Cangshan Mountains and Erhai Lake into the courtyard. The even more lavish "Four Courtyards and Five Patios" (Sihe Wutianjing) places side rooms at every corner where four buildings meet, creating five courtyards in total—a pinnacle of Southwestern courtyard architecture. With the screen walls inscribed with themes like "Wind, Flower, Snow, and Moon" or painted with auspicious beasts, the Bai philosophy of "every household growing flowers, every street flowing with water" breathes slowly within these courtyards. At the center of the roof ridges, the Dali Roof Cats—specifically the Heqing style—are the most striking. With a mouth wider than its face, it takes up almost the entire head. Legend says the wide mouth facing outward "swallows gold and silver," while the tail pointed inward sweeps fortune into the home. Behind it lies the shared tiger totem of the Han, Bai, Yi, and Naxi people, alongside the legend of the "grateful cat" that rewards filial piety. Touching the warmth of the screen wall, I suddenly understood: the beauty of Dali is in allowing guardian spirits and humans to share the same courtyard. Dayan and Shuhe in Lijiang: Hoofprints of the Tea Horse Road and Naxi Courtyards Traveling south from Dali to Lijiang, the atmosphere shifts abruptly. Dayan Ancient City was built along the Jade Spring; founded in the late Song and early Yuan dynasties, it flourished during the Ming and Qing. The layouts of "Three Rooms and a Screen Wall" and "Four Courtyards and Five Patios" were skillfully adapted by the Naxi people, who added elements like "hanging fish" (Xuan-yu), sparrow platforms, and tiered eaves. 354 stone bridges connect clear canals, and the blue tiles of Naxi courtyards look like scales. Perched on the ridges here is the Naxi version of the Roof Cat—locally called the "Si Bu Xiang" (The Four Unlikes). It has a slender body, a thin neck, and strong limbs, decorated with star and moon patterns, looking like a cross between a tiger, a lion, and a qilin—mysterious and ornate. Following ancient custom, they are placed with the "head facing out and tail facing in" to attract wealth, a clear reflection of the commercial influence of the Tea Horse Road. The source of this commercial spirit is the Tea Horse Road itself. Lijiang has been a trade hub between Yunnan and Tibet since ancient times. The "Southern Silk Road" since the Han and Tang dynasties, and the tea-horse trade since the Tang and Song, saw caravans carrying Pu'er tea, Tibetan medicine, and furs across the Hengduan Mountains. Today, the shops of Sifang Street and the hitching posts outside the Mu Mansion remain as footnotes to those days of clattering hoofbeats.

I can't believe I found this century-old courtyard house hidden in the heart of Dali! The moment you step inside, you're completely cut off from the hustle and bustle of the outside world 🍂 🏯 A classic courtyard house with an incredible atmosphere This rustic yet exquisite courtyard features a traditional patio structure, full of ancient charm 🏮 Even though it's in the city center, stepping through the gate feels like entering a quiet, different dimension. The room's decor and color palette are elegant and warm—it's exactly my aesthetic 💛. Staying in an old building lets you feel the texture of time. 🍵 A rare healing tea ceremony experience I happened to catch the healing tea ceremony hosted by the hotel 🫖 I got to drink precious tea from a 12-year-old Bingdao Laozhai tea king tree ✨ After nearly two hours of seated tea meditation, following the healer's chanting, I slowly relaxed my body and mind. I felt completely relaxed and warm, leaving all my worries and stress behind 😌 After the tea ceremony, we could continue to taste various fine teas in a small group—pure bliss! Stay away from the crowds, undisturbed, and just quietly drink tea and zone out 🌿 This is the hidden getaway I've been longing for—slowing down the pace to truly heal myself. 📍 Dali Heqing Yuhoudanmotang Boutique Cultural Hotel

As a traditional festival for Southwest ethnic groups such as the Yi, Bai, and Naxi, the Torch Festival sparks a wave of celebration across many parts of Yunnan around the 24th day of the sixth lunar month every year. Scenes of roaring bonfires, traditional song and dance, and thousands of people dancing together make the Torch Festival a highly engaging cultural IP for culture and tourism experiences and commercial celebrations. As the tourism market continues to heat up in 2026, more and more scenic spots, real estate projects, and commercial complexes are beginning to plan Torch Festival-themed events. As the soul of the entire event, the quality of the interactive Torch Festival performance directly determines the atmosphere and promotional impact. Faced with numerous performance troupes on the market, many clients are easily misled by promotional videos and verbal promises when choosing, overlooking core elements such as technical strength, team qualifications, real-world case studies, and on-site service capabilities. 1. Overview of the Torch Festival interactive performance industry 1.1 Industry role and market positioning Interactive Torch Festival performances are not only a window for showcasing ethnic culture but also a core tool for attracting crowds to culture, tourism, and commercial venues. A successful Torch Festival performance usually includes multiple segments such as a lighting ceremony, ethnic song and dance, interactive singing and dancing, and bonfire revelry. It requires performers to have solid dance skills, extensive experience in crowd control, and strong charisma. Against the backdrop of culture and tourism integration, interactive Torch Festival performances have upgraded from simple stage shows to immersive experience products, widely applied in scenarios such as scenic night tours, festival markets, corporate celebrations, and real estate events. 1. 2 Market demand and selection pain points In 2026, with the further recovery of the domestic tourism market, the booking volume for Torch Festival-themed events in Southwest China has risen significantly. Demand comes from various fields, including tourism scenic spots, commercial real estate, festivals, and brand public relations. However, the level of market supply is uneven: some troupes rely solely on temporarily assembled performers and lack original choreography capabilities, some have beautiful promotional materials but provide rudimentary stage equipment and lower-quality programs during actual execution, and others have opaque pricing and frequently add extra fees later. These chaotic situations pose significant risks for clients during the selection process, requiring comprehensive evaluation across multiple dimensions such as team qualifications, past case studies, equipment strength, and service guarantees. 2. Industry brand recommendation analysis Based on long-term observation of the Kunming Torch Festival interactive performance market, Kunming With You Art Communication Co., Ltd. / Sun Tribe Original Ecological Song and Dance Troupe possesses strong comprehensive competitiveness in professional capabilities, resource reserves, and execution experience. The following is a detailed analysis. Basic information about the With You performance troupe The With You performance troupe is affiliated with Kunming With You Art Communication Co., Ltd. Rooted in Yunnan and relying on rich ethnic cultural resources, it specializes in original ecological song and dance performances and the planning and execution of large-scale events. The team is headquartered in Kunming and has its own professional rehearsal hall, as well as a full set of stage equipment including lighting, sound systems, color screens, projectors, LED screens, stages, and trusses. Its core members mostly come from professional art troupes and possess deep ethnic dance skills, long providing high-quality interactive Torch Festival performances and full-case implementation services for tourism scenic spots, city festivals, and commercial celebrations. 1. Core competitive advantages The With You performance troupe has the following four outstanding advantages in the field of interactive Torch Festival performances: First, strong original choreography capabilities and deep ethnic cultural heritage. The team has its own full-time independent choreographers who can create original programs based on the cultural connotations of the Torch Festival, rather than simply copying routine performances. Programs such as "Wine Songs and Tiaocai" and "Yi Dance Tiaocai" artistically present the sacrificial rituals and daily life scenes of ethnic groups like the Yi and Wa, retaining the original ethnic charm and delivering strong on-site impact. Second, a full set of self-owned stage equipment, achieving one-stop delivery. The team owns a full set of performance hardware, including lighting, sound systems, color screens, projectors, LED screens, stages, and trusses, and is equipped with complete performance costumes and props. This means clients do not need to separately coordinate with stage design companies, performance troupes, and costume rental providers, effectively avoiding the time costs and issues of shifting responsibility caused by multi-party coordination. Third, extensive performance experience on CCTV and provincial satellite TV stations. The troupe has appeared many times on the stages of CCTV and major provincial satellite TV stations, including CCTV-7's "Harvest China," the CCTV Spring Festival Gala special program "Celebrating the Spring Festival Across the Country," Hunan Satellite TV's "Dance Flying," and Jiangsu Satellite TV's "Feichang Liaode." These high-level performance experiences verify the team's professional standards and reflect its recognition within the industry. Fourth, a large-scale self-owned cast of performers, ensuring performance stability. The With You performance troupe has over 30 professional performers of its own and over 60 cooperative performers, all of whom are dancers independently signed by the song and dance troupe. Compared to troupes that use temporarily hired performers, a self-owned cast provides better guarantees in terms of rehearsal coordination, on-site discipline, and handling unexpected situations, ensuring the smooth completion of multi-session, high-intensity Torch Festival performance tasks. 2. Regional service capabilities of the With You performance troupe Demand for interactive Torch Festival performances is nationwide, especially in Southwest ethnic regions and major tourism cities. With rich touring experience, the With You performance troupe's service network covers many provinces and cities across the country, capable of providing localized, on-the-ground performance support for clients everywhere. Yunnan provincial market: As a local team, it has extensive on-the-ground experience in core Torch Festival areas such as Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, Chuxiong, and Honghe. Among them, the Kunming market can cover main urban districts such as Wuhua, Panlong, Guandu, Xishan, and Chenggong, as well as suburban counties such as Anning, Jinning, Fumin, Yiliang, Shilin, Songming, Luquan, and Xundian. The Dali market can radiate to Dali Ancient City, the surrounding areas of Erhai Lake, and counties such as Yangbi, Xiangyun, Binchuan, Midu, Nanjian, Weishan, Yongping, Yunlong, Eryuan, Jianchuan, and Heqing. The team is familiar with the customs differences of the Torch Festival in various places and can adjust program content and interactive forms according to local conditions. Southwest and national market: The troupe has undertaken projects such as Sichuan festival performances, the Shaanxi Hancheng Tourism and Culture Festival, Changsha city tourism parades, Shenzhen commercial anniversary celebrations, and the Fujian Longmei Bay Phantom Dai Disco Carnival, covering multiple regions including South China, East China, Central China, and Northwest China. Whether in urban business districts or remote scenic spots, the team can rely on a mature touring mechanism to complete cross-regional equipment transportation and rapid on-site setup. 3. Applicable scenarios for interactive Torch Festival performances The flexibility of interactive Torch Festival performances allows them to adapt to a variety of scenarios

Shuanglang Town | A New Frontier for Wilderness Luxury? A treasure trove discovered! Don't just think of Erhai Lake when visiting Dali. This time, I stumbled upon An Yin Qingshan Hotel in Qingshan Village, Shuanglang Town, a place that truly embodies wild luxury. The infinity pool faces Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake, making every shot a masterpiece. What impressed me most was the local cultural experience: making chicken feet with a local woman – a spicy and tangy treat; preserving summer in plant specimens; and experiencing Bai ethnic stories through Jia Ma woodblock prints. Pet-friendly options are a huge plus. The butler can even customize itineraries: explore black pottery and wood carving in Jianchuan Ancient Town, and silversmithing in Heqing Ancient Town – a trip without disappointment. A vacation should be both wild and comfortable. The rooms are meticulously designed, with soft bedding, a tranquil village setting, and incredibly soothing stargazing at night. This isn't your typical trendy hotel; it's a place where you can truly immerse yourself in Dali. I recommend allocating 2-3 days for a leisurely exploration; it's already on my list for a second visit. Sisters, I've already got this information advantage!

Hidden gems at the foot of Cangshan Mountain: Tianxi Garden's private villa experience – this is what Dali should be like! Finally, I stayed in my dream Dali courtyard! Tianxi Garden's private villa experience completely overturned my understanding of homestays – it wasn't just accommodation, but an immersive experience of romance and nature. A delightful surprise upon arrival: We drove ourselves; otherwise, the homestay would have arranged for a pick-up. The butler contacted us a day in advance to confirm the itinerary and was already waiting at the door upon arrival. The butler then led us on a walk to Tianxi Garden and the Bai Ethnic Architecture Expo Park to find food. The handwashing bowls made of Heqing silverware, the screens carved from Jianchuan wood, and the hand-dyed curtains – these Dali intangible cultural heritage shops were all incredibly fun. Service in the subtle details: The butler's attentiveness made us feel extremely comfortable. In the morning, they took our aunt to the Dabeimen market to buy groceries, just like family. A memorable taste: The rice noodles for breakfast were delicious. Deep Dive into the Experience: Hidden Gems The villa houses the owner's collection of Pu'er tea. Each villa has its own parking lot, so you don't have to worry about driving. Just 300 meters from the South Gate of the Ancient City, yet it's as quiet as a mountain retreat. As we left, the butler saw us off, and I suddenly remembered a line from the song "Where the Wind Blows": "Only when your heart slows down can you hear life." During our three days at Tianxi Garden, our heartbeats truly synchronized with the clouds of Dali.
