A one day tour in Mi Le is absolutely possible. Especially if you are seeking for an escape from Kunming city to see a different side of local life. We took a 2-way high speed train from Kunming to Mi Le that is easily booked via Trip.com, because we know August is the grapes season in Mi Le! A lot of people didn’t know that there are vineyards and winery at Mi Le, so we came here to check out seasonal grapes and local wines. The weather is warmer in Mi Le compared to Kunming, so do come dress in summer clothes and put on your sunscreen protection and sun glasses. Here’s our simple itinerary: 1. DongFengYun 东风韵 - Near to Mi Le station and it’s the top iconic attraction place that kept showing up in social media. Suggest to buy tickets via Trip.com because ticket queues can be long. And do get the entrance ticket together with 2-way buggy rides as the place is huge. 2. Yunnan winery tour - 6 mins drive away from DongFenYun only. Quick tour that allows tourists to see their underground cellar and a chance to taste their local specialty wine, rose honey. I can’t find the ticket via trip.com so I bought it at ticketing office. You can exchange the tour ticket for alcohol purchase or even grape juice. I love their grape ice cream that is made from their sweet grapes, absolutely delicious! 😋 This is also the place where we learnt the types of grapes grown in Mi Le. However for the foreigners, communicating with the tour guide might be challenging if you can’t speak mandarin. I would suggest that you skip the winery and go check out their vineyards for grapes that are not sold in local markets. 3. Local multi storey market at 佛城商都 The weather is too hot for us to visit the vineyards near the winery, so we head straight to local market to grab some grapes. 🍇 The didi driver was friendly and recommended us on the types of grapes to buy. He also shared that level 4 of the market has wild mushrooms as well, since August is also wild mushrooms season. What we didn’t expect to see, is the edible pupae that is also on sale on level 4! 4. Their local braised chicken mi xian shop near the train station is delicious. Recommend to try it, but do request for more meat for extra fee as the meat portion is too little. Tips: Before you come Mi Le, check the weather forecast and what seasonal fruits you might get. It’s a pity I failed to visit local vineyard due to hot sun, but I think it’s still worth coming back for other seasonal fruits like blueberries and strawberries in future. #米勒
