We just finished an amazing 2 week trip to Annapurna Base Camp Trekking. The whole journey was smooth, even with the recent political situations in Nepal and Avalanche in the Himalayan region during the monsoon season in October. (definitely check the Gov website prior to planning any trip, but also don't rely on it completely, they said Cat 3 - reconsider Travel despite the peaceful situation and the lovely weather in Nepal!) We landed safely in Kathmandu, did the city tour, enjoying local foods around. (Highly recommended for Thamel Kalapatthar trekking store in Thamel - if you need to rent/buy hiking gears). And took the bus to Pokhara the next day. Pokhara was amazing and lovely, surrounded by the Himalayan. The temperature was a perfect chill. The food is amazing and the people are so kind and friendly. We did the trekking to Annapurna Base Camp, the daily walk, scenery and exposure to Buddhism/Hindu Cultures were unforgettable experiences. Nepalese people are down to earth people, they are the richest people without much money - healthy, kind, religious, every day exposure to mother nature with gardening/farming, and having REAL food. [Annapurna Circuit ACT: My First 5000-Meter Summit] After returning from the ACT, even the smallest things feel like a blessing—taking a shower, using a hairdryer, enjoying heating, or simply breathing properly. And, of course, seeing temperatures without a minus sign in front of them. Traveling during the off-season means fewer crowds, but the trade-off is the bone-chilling cold. (If my face hadn’t been frozen, I might have actually cried.) While trekking through the mountains, I often thought to myself: Nepal truly is a sacred land. The deeper you venture, the scarcer the resources become. In the frozen world of -20°C, the only warmth comes from the precious firewood burned for a few hours in the evening at the dining hall. Returning to the room to sleep is a test of endurance, as there’s no heating at all. Yet, we spent most of our time in the mountains, interacting with the local Nepalese people. In their extremely simple way of life, I saw their contentment and a serene demeanor. Surrounded by the Annapurna range, I too found it easy to feel a sense of simple happiness. Even after returning, I haven’t forgotten. I constantly find myself longing for that place: 🏔️ Gently spinning prayer wheels as I strolled through village streets 🏔️ Turning a corner to be greeted by the breathtaking sight of an 8,000-meter peak 🏔️ Hearing our guide talk about the petite women carrying 60 kilograms of firewood up the mountains daily 🏔️ Listening to the sound of ice cracking on a glacier for the first time 🏔️ Sharing the journey with animals and discovering small temples deep in the mountains The indescribable beauty of walking through the Annapurna range makes me believe that heaven truly exists on Earth. The sun had barely stretched its golden fingers over the Annapurna range when I stepped out into the cool morning air of Pokhara. Nestled beside the tranquil Phewa Lake and shadowed by snow-capped peaks, this city felt like a dream painted in soft pastels. Our sightseeing began at Devi’s Fall, where the water thundered into a mysterious cave, known locally as Gupteshwor Mahadev—the next stop on our route. Inside, a sacred Shiva lingam sat quietly as the sound of rushing water echoed through the limestone walls. As the sun slowly rose behind the Annapurna range, its golden light spilled over the hills of Pokhara, gently illuminating one of the city's most awe-inspiring landmarks—the majestic Shiva Statue of Pumdikot. Standing at nearly 51 feet tall, with the base rising even higher, this enormous white Shiva idol is perched on a hilltop, gazing serenely across the Pokhara Valley. With a trident in hand and a snake coiled around his neck, Lord Shiva appears calm and powerful, as if silently guarding the mountains, lakes, and people below. By mid-morning, we arrived at World Peace Pagoda, a gleaming white structure sitting atop a ridge. From here, Pokhara unfolded beneath us—its rooftops scattered like confetti, the lake shimmering like glass, and the mighty Himalayas watching over it all. From there we travelled to a different earth called Bat Cave and Mahendra Cave. We descended to the wilderness of the underworld where bats and different creatures roam around. But the real thrill was yet to come. Next day, after a short drive to Sarangkot, the launch site for paragliding, my heart began to pound—not from fear, but from the electric buzz of anticipation. Strapped into a harness with a trained pilot behind me, we took a few quick steps... and then we were airborne. For a moment, silence. Then wind. And then—wonder. The world below grew small as we soared over fields, forests, and rooftops. The lake mirrored the sky, and the mountains stood tall and proud in the distance. Floating in the sky like a bird, Pokhara transformed from a beautiful city to a breathtaking painting. It was not just adrenaline—it was peace. As we glided down gently to the landing site near Lakeside, I felt a sense of awe I’ve rarely experienced. Pokhara hadn’t just shown me its beauty. It had lifted me into it.
