If you’re planning a trip to Ipoh and looking for places that are beautiful, unique, and perfect for taking photos, here are two places I visited that I’d definitely add to your itinerary. 📸✨ 🏰 Kellie’s Castle This was probably one of the most interesting places I visited in Ipoh. Kellie’s Castle is an unfinished historical mansion surrounded by greenery, with beautiful old brick walls, arches, staircases and mysterious little corners to explore. 🎟️ Entrance Fee: · Malaysian Adult — RM9 · Foreign Adult — RM19 📸 Is it worth visiting? If you love architecture and aesthetic travel photos — definitely! 🤎 Almost every corner gives you a different photo background. The old European-style architecture combined with the greenery makes the photos look cinematic and timeless. My tip: explore the castle slowly instead of just taking photos at the entrance. There are so many beautiful angles once you walk around. ✨ 🐎 Iskandar Polo Club This place has a completely different vibe from Kellie’s Castle. 🌿 Think of wide green fields, horses, a peaceful lake and beautiful limestone hills — it feels like a quiet countryside escape from the busy city. 🎟️ Entrance Fee: Around RM30 per person. 📸 Is it worth visiting? If you enjoy nature, horses and peaceful outdoor photos, I’d say it’s a lovely place to stop by. The huge green field gives you plenty of space for natural-looking photos, and the horses + limestone hills make the scenery even more special. 🐎🌳 ☀️ Best photo tip: Try going in the morning or late afternoon when the sunlight is softer. And wear something that stands out against the greenery — your photos will look even better! 🤍 💭 My little takeaway from Ipoh… Kellie’s Castle gives you that old, mysterious and cinematic feeling, while Polo Club gives you a peaceful, natural and countryside vibe. Two completely different places, but both are great if you want to experience a different side of Ipoh beyond just food and cafés. ✨ 📍 Save this for your next Ipoh trip! #IpohTravel #IpohTrip #IpohPerak #MalaysiaTravel #KelliesCastle #IskandarPoloClub #PerakTravel #TravelMalaysia #IpohGuide #TravelReview #PhotoSpotsMalaysia #MalaysiaHiddenGems

Located within Taman Eko Rimba Kledang Saiong, Anak Sungai Sah is a hidden tributary of Sah River, flowing down from the summit of Mount Peninjau. While many people visit the park for a relaxing picnic, few realise there's a beautiful series of waterfalls waiting deeper inside. The adventure is surprisingly straightforward. Simply follow the river upstream for about one hour, and you'll reach a collection of hidden cascades. From my exploration, I managed to discover three tiers of waterfalls, though there could be even more further upstream. Each waterfall has its own charm, but the second tier stands out with a small dam-like structure built across the stream, creating a unique backdrop that's both scenic and incredibly photogenic. One of the best things about this place is how affordable and family-friendly it is. The park itself is clean, well maintained, and home to plenty of fish. On weekends, it's common to see families enjoying picnics and children playing by the river, while those seeking a little adventure can continue hiking upstream in search of the hidden waterfalls. It's the perfect destination if you're looking for a place that offers both a relaxing riverside atmosphere and a short waterfall adventure, all within the same park. 💡 Tips before you go: 🥾 Follow the river upstream to reach the upper waterfall tiers. 💵 Entrance fee is only RM2. 📸 The second-tier waterfall is the most photogenic, thanks to its unique dam-like structure. 🌿 Visit on weekdays if you prefer a quieter experience, as the lower recreational area can get busy with families on weekends. #waterfalls #hiking #ipoh

I initially thought Ipoh was all about bean sprout chicken and white coffee, but this day's itinerary, exploring from the old town all the way to Kampar, was much richer than I expected. Our first stop was Tianjin Ice House. It's hard to visit Ipoh without experiencing these old-established teahouses. The retro shopfronts, local snacks, and a cup of Ipoh white coffee perfectly complement the trip. 🌟Must-try dishes: Chicken Rice Noodles, Satay, Bean Sprouts, and Pudding After a satisfying meal, we started exploring Ipoh's old town. First, we went to the famous Concubine Lane, then strolled along to First Concubine Lane and Third Concubine Lane. Many people only visit Concubine Lane in Ipoh, but exploring the surrounding old streets together gives you a more complete Old Town experience. Old houses, shophouses, murals, and small shops are all mixed together. Don't rush to see the sights; taking your time and taking photos is the most enjoyable part. Next, we went to Ipoh Railway Station 🚂. The pure white colonial-style buildings are truly beautiful and one of Ipoh's classic landmarks. Unfortunately, they were under renovation on the outside when we visited, which was a bit of a disappointment. 🏰 Kellie’s Castle The entire building has a very special colonial-era atmosphere, with red bricks, archways, long corridors, and some unfinished architectural spaces, making it perfect for taking photos. It's not a glittering castle; rather, its slightly weathered and mysterious appearance gives the place a sense of history. But the most special thing about this day was actually— 🚗 Continuing from Ipoh to Kampar After leaving Ipoh, we headed directly to Kampar. Kampar isn't as touristy as Ipoh, and the pace of life in the city is slower, giving it a more lived-in feel. One of the most representative places here is the UTAR (Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman) Kampar campus. You might be a little surprised when you first see it; the campus is larger than you imagined, surrounded by mountains and natural scenery. If you're interested in living, studying, or experiencing the local Chinese culture in Malaysia, this stop is definitely worth a visit. So this day trip wasn't just a typical "Ipoh food and drink tour," but rather a journey from: Tianjin Ice Cream Parlor → Concubine Lane → First Concubine Lane → Third Concubine Lane → Ipoh Railway Station → Ipoh Old Town → Kampar → UTAR (Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman) a walk from the tourist area to places closer to local life. If you've already visited popular cities like Kuala Lumpur or Penang, I highly recommend setting aside a day for Ipoh and Kampar! #Ipoh #IpohFood #Malaysia #travel2026 #Travel #SoutheastAsiaTravel #Food #MyFoodDiary #malaysiatravel #IpohAttractions #kelliescastle #concubinelane #kekloktong #IpohWhiteCoffee #Kampar

Nestled among majestic limestone hills and lush rainforest, The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat is one of the most unforgettable luxury stays I've experienced in Malaysia. Every moment here feels slow, peaceful, and intentional—from soaking in the natural geothermal hot springs to waking up surrounded by nature. It's the perfect escape for anyone looking to disconnect from the city and reconnect with themselves. The highlight of my stay was undoubtedly dinner at Jeff's Cellar. Imagine enjoying a fine dining experience inside a stunning limestone cave that is millions of years old. The atmosphere was magical, the cuisine was beautifully curated, and every course made the evening feel truly special. What impressed me most was how seamlessly luxury blends with nature. The attentive hospitality, tranquil surroundings, and unique experiences made this more than just a hotel stay—it became a destination in itself. If you're planning a romantic getaway, celebrating a milestone, or simply treating yourself to a wellness retreat, I highly recommend adding The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat to your travel list. ✨ Travel Highlights · Luxury villa surrounded by rainforest and limestone cliffs. · Natural geothermal hot springs and wellness experiences. · An unforgettable fine dining experience at Jeff's Cellar. · Exceptional service and complete serenity. Ipoh is the kind of place where heritage streets, limestone caves, nature and good food can fit nicely into a short weekend. If I were planning a 2D1N Ipoh trip, this is the route I’d save: DAY 1 — OLD TOWN 🏛️ 🚉 Ipoh Railway Station ↓ 🕰️ Birch Memorial ↓ ⛏️ Han Chin Pet Soo ↓ 🏮 Concubine Lane ↓ ☕ Old Town food & cafés Start with Ipoh’s heritage side — colonial architecture, old shophouses, street art, museums and local cafés. Trip.com +1 DAY 2 — CAVES + NATURE 🌿 🛕 Perak Tong ↓ 🛕 Sam Poh Tong ↓ 💧 Tasik Cermin ↓ 🚤 Gunung Lang This day takes you beyond the city centre, into Ipoh’s limestone landscape, cave temples and greener outdoor spots. Tasik Cermin and Gunung Lang are particularly good choices if you want some slower nature time. ✨ WHY IPOH? 🏛️ Heritage 🛕 Culture 🪨 Limestone landscapes 🌿 Nature 🍜 Local food Save this for your next Ipoh weekend. 📌 Which one would you visit first? #Ipoh #MalaysiaTravel #Perak #IpohOldTown #ConcubineLane #PerakTong #SamPohTong #TasikCermin #GunungLang #MalaysiaTravelGuide #TripMoments #travel #citydaytours #thingstodo #naturalwonders

#overratedspots After seeing countless Instagram reels and photos, I had high expectations for Ipoh Stables Market. Unfortunately, my visit didn't quite match the hype. The market is definitely photogenic, with charming corners and a trendy atmosphere that's perfect for social media. But once I started exploring, I realized there wasn't much to keep me there. Most of the stalls are small, and the shopping options felt quite limited. Many shops offer similar products, so it didn't take long to walk through the entire market. If you're already exploring Ipoh, it's fine to stop by for a few photos. But I wouldn't recommend making a special trip just because it's trending on Instagram. Sometimes, a place looks amazing through a camera lens—but the real experience can be very different. 📍 Ipoh Stables Market, Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia 💬 Have you visited? I honestly didn't expect Gopeng to surprise me this much. From limestone caves and rivers to peaceful cafés and old-town charm, Gopeng is the perfect weekend getaway if you're looking to slow down and reconnect with nature. One of my favorite moments was simply driving through the countryside in the early morning. Mist floated around the limestone hills while the rivers sparkled under the soft sunlight. The atmosphere felt incredibly peaceful, and it was hard to believe this hidden gem is only a couple of hours from Kuala Lumpur. For adventure lovers, Gopeng definitely delivers. Whether you're rafting through exciting rapids, exploring caves, or hiking nearby hills, there's something for every type of traveler. Even if you're not into adrenaline activities, the surrounding scenery alone makes the trip worthwhile. What I loved most was how authentic everything felt. There were no massive crowds, just friendly locals, fresh air, and beautiful natural landscapes. It reminded me that sometimes the best destinations aren't the famous ones—they're the places that still feel untouched. 📍 My Gopeng Travel Tips 🚣 Don't miss the famous white water rafting if you're visiting with friends or family. 🪨 Explore Gua Tempurung, one of the largest limestone caves in Peninsular Malaysia. 🌿 Visit Kellie's Castle, Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge, or nearby waterfalls if you have extra time. ☕ Stop by a local café or kopitiam to enjoy traditional Malaysian breakfast before your adventure. 👟 Wear comfortable shoes, as many attractions involve walking or outdoor activities. 📸 Early morning offers the best lighting for photos and cooler weather. ❤️ Why I Loved It Gopeng is one of those places that combines adventure, history, and nature all in one trip. When it comes to street art in Malaysia, Penang is usually the first place that pops into mind. But when I finally set foot in Ipoh—a quaint little town that time has treated with gentleness—I discovered its murals possess a different kind of beauty, one that is serene and profound. At first glance, you might find Ipoh a bit quiet, lacking the hustle and bustle of over-commercialization. Yet, it’s exactly this peacefulness that brings the murals tucked away in its alleys to life. They aren't just paintings; they're silent witnesses to Ipoh’s glorious past and its history as the "City of Tin." Today, let me take you on a visual journey into the world of Ipoh’s murals to truly feel the soul and everyday vibe of this city. 🚶‍♀️ 🎨 Mural Treasure Hunt: The Old Town Cultural Corridor Most of Ipoh’s street art is created by local artists and is deeply rooted in the town’s heritage. Around the Old Town area, you need to slow your pace to uncover the surprises hidden within the narrow streets and back alleys. ☕ The most iconic piece is undeniably "An Old Uncle Drinking Coffee." The relaxed expression of the old man holding a classic Southeast Asian coffee cup perfectly captures the essence of Ipoh white coffee. There are also playful pieces like "Hide and Seek" and "Paper Plane," along with "Tin Dredge," which showcases the region's rich tin-mining history. These murals are scattered across weathered walls, some even painted on bare, unplastered brickwork. They blend seamlessly into the surrounding Nanyang-style shophouses without looking out of place. 🖌️ 🗺️ Walking Route: From a Century-Old Station to the Alleys of Time Ipoh’s attractions are clustered closely together, making it an ideal spot for an effortless City Walk. Our journey begins at the Ipoh Railway Station, fondly dubbed the "Taj Mahal of Ipoh." This elegant, pure-white structure is so stunning that you almost expect a vintage steam train to pull out at any moment. 🚂 From the station, a short 9-minute stroll takes you to the Birch Memorial Clock Tower. ⏰ Another 5 minutes of walking brings you to Concubine Lane. Walk right through it, and in just 2 minutes, you’ll find yourself at Market Lane. Compared to the lively Concubine Lane, Market Lane is wider and much quieter. With its colorful hanging umbrellas and unique street art, it’s an absolute must-visit spot for artsy souls and Instagrammers. ☂️ Let the murals guide you all the way to the Ipoh Heritage Walk along the Kinta River. As night falls, the area lights up beautifully, making it the perfect spot for a riverside evening stroll. 🌃 🍜 Night Markets & Local Bites: A Feast for the Senses When your feet need a break, Ipoh’s night markets and local delicacies are the perfect cure. Drop by a traditional kopitiam in the Old Town, order a cup of classic white coffee, and pair it with some kaya toast—crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Or, treat yourself to a plate of tender chicken and crunchy bean sprouts (Nga Choi Kai) to taste the authentic, everyday flavor of the city. 🍗 Come evening, take a wander down Gerbang Malam or one of the garden night markets. Grab a few boxes of sweet, creamy Musang King durian, or cool down with a refreshing bowl of herbal tea. Here, the weight of history and the lightness of daily life intertwine to paint the most captivating picture of Nanyang. ✨ 💬 Let's Chat! Why not travel through time and experience the nostalgia of old Nanyang! Named one of the best destinations by Lonely Planet, Ipoh is not only the hometown of Michelle Yeoh and Michael Wong, but also hides stunning karst landscapes and ultimate foodie delights. This super detailed 2-day, 1-night itinerary will show you how to explore the Tin City to the fullest! 👇 📅 Day 1: Wander through Old Town, savor the old Nanyang vibe The first stop is, of course, the Ipoh Railway Station, often hailed as the "Taj Mahal of Ipoh"! This century-old Moorish building is magnificent, making you feel like you've time-traveled back to the colonial era. 📍 Address: Jalan Sultan Idris Shah, 30000 Ipoh, Perak 🚗 How to get there: Take a direct KTM train from KL Sentral, which takes about 2.5 hours. 💰 Admission: Free After snapping photos, a 10-minute walk brings you to the famous "Concubine Lanes"! Once the properties given by a wealthy Chinese tycoon to his wives to collect rent, they are now full of Nanyang charm. Concubine Lane (Lorong Panglima) is the most bustling, packed with souvenir shops and street food—full of childhood memories! The nearby Wife Lane and Second Concubine Lane are relatively quieter, preserving more exquisite murals and Chinese cultural heritage with a unique vibe. 📍 Address: Lorong Panglima, 30000 Ipoh, Perak 💰 Admission: Free (food at your own expense) Tired from walking? I highly recommend visiting the Ho Yan Hor Museum! This is the former residence of herbal tea king Ho Kai Cheong, bearing witness to the struggle of Chinese immigrants in Nanyang. You can also sample six types of herbal tea for free on the first floor to cure your mental burnout! 📍 Address: 26, Jalan Sultan Iskandar, 30000 Ipoh, Perak 💰 Admission: RM 5 (about $1.15), requires an online reservation one day in advance! 📅 Day 2: Explore a hidden paradise, get lost in a landscape painting On the second day, we'll head out of the city to Tasik Cermin (Mirror Lake), known as Malaysia's "Little Guilin". Walking through a hidden century-old mining tunnel, the view suddenly opens up to a mirror-like lake surrounded by mountains. I highly recommend taking a boat ride to experience the vibe of discovering a hidden utopia—narrow at first, then suddenly revealing a breathtaking paradise! 📍 Address: Tasik Cermin, 31350 Ipoh, Perak 🚗 How to get there: About a 15-minute drive from downtown, taking a Grab is recommended. 💰 Admission: RM 5; Boat ticket: RM 25 🍜 Foodie Easter Eggs: How can you visit Ipoh without trying Bean Sprout Chicken and Mountain Water Tofufa? I recommend "Lou Wong Bean Sprout Chicken", a wildly popular legendary spot in Ipoh! They use locally grown short and crunchy bean sprouts, paired with tender poached chicken, and hor fun (flat rice noodles) tossed in pork lard and secret soy sauce—an absolute soul-satisfying combo! There's also "Woong Kee Traditional Bean Curd", where the tofufa is so silky it melts in your mouth; topped with a scoop of black sesame glutinous rice balls, it's a match made in heaven! 🍮 A must-visit for durian lovers: Easi Dessert During durian season, boxes of fresh durians are stacked at the entrance. The prices are super cheap, and they have a huge variety of premium types like Black Thorn, Musang King, D24, 101, Tekka, and Kampong—you name it! Plus, there are stools for you to sit and eat, and they open them for you for free. Don't miss out! 📍 Address: Jalan Sultan Iskandar, 30000 Ipoh, Perak 🚗 How to get there: Located around Old Town, easily accessible by walking or Grab. 💰 Admission: Free (the desserts are very affordable and offer great bang for your buck) This low-key yet charming little city is definitely worth a weekend getaway to savor its vibes. "If Kuala Lumpur is too crowded for you... maybe it's time for a getaway to Ipoh." This small city in the state of Perak, Malaysia, is often dubbed a highly underrated hidden gem in Southeast Asia. But that's exactly what makes Ipoh so special. Back in the British colonial era, Ipoh was the richest tin-mining town in the world. That's why, even today, the old town's architecture is still packed with aesthetic and beautifully preserved colonial heritage buildings. Strolling through Old Town Ipoh feels like stepping back in time, yet it's kept alive by modern cafes, vibrant street art, and a strong local culture. What makes so many people fall in love with Ipoh isn't just the tranquility of the city... it's the pace of life. Here, people are never in a rush. The cost of living is also relatively lower compared to Kuala Lumpur or Penang. It's absolutely perfect for those who are burned out from the hustle and bustle of big cities and want to recharge without breaking the bank. And one more underrated thing: the food. Ipoh is renowned as one of the best culinary destinations in Malaysia. From the legendary Ipoh White Coffee and chicken rice with bean sprouts, to authentic Chinese-Malay street food whose recipes have been passed down for generations. In fact, many travelers say that Ipoh isn't a city that makes you go "wow" right off the bat... but it slowly makes you feel right at home. Because sometimes, traveling isn't about hitting up the most viral spots. It's about finding a place that brings you peace of mind. So, if you ever find yourself needing an escape, maybe Ipoh could be the unexpected answer you've been looking for.

24 hours in Ipoh was filled with café hopping, good food, heritage streets, and peaceful city vibes I didn’t expect to love this much. From exploring the old town area, trying local dishes, to enjoying the scenery surrounded by limestone hills — everything felt simple but memorable. Ipoh honestly has that calm atmosphere that makes you want to stay longer. If you’re planning a short escape in Malaysia, this city is definitely worth adding to your bucket list 🇲🇾✨ #fotoliburan

If you’re visiting Malaysia and only have a short time, save this Ipoh itinerary because this city is seriously underrated. We started the morning with breakfast at the iconic OldTown White Coffee. Ipoh is famous for its white coffee culture, so this was the perfect first stop. Warm kaya toast, soft-boiled eggs, and a cup of creamy white coffee just hit differently before a full day of exploring. The old-town atmosphere around the area also makes the morning walk feel super nostalgic. Next stop was the beautiful Sam Poh Tong Temple, one of the oldest cave temples in Malaysia. Built inside limestone hills, the temple feels peaceful and surreal at the same time. The combination of giant rock formations, quiet gardens, and traditional architecture made it feel like entering another dimension. Definitely wear comfortable shoes because there’s a bit of walking involved. Then we headed to the hidden gem everyone talks about: Tasik Cermin. We explored both Tasik Cermin 2 and Tasik Cermin 1, and honestly both were stunning in different ways. The lake reflections surrounded by towering limestone cliffs looked almost unreal. The boat ride through narrow cave tunnels made the experience even cooler. It’s one of those places that genuinely looks like a fantasy movie set in real life. For lunch, we stopped at Kin Loong Valley, a peaceful café surrounded by nature and limestone scenery. Perfect place to slow down, recharge, and escape the city heat for a while. To end the day, we visited Kellie’s Castle — an unfinished mansion with a mysterious history and dramatic architecture. Watching the golden sunset there made the whole trip feel cinematic. Ipoh honestly surprised me in the best way possible 🤍 #travelplan

Complete with well-preserved century-old pre-war shophouses lining both sides, red brick tiles, and hanging red lanterns, it feels like you've been transported back to the booming, prosperous era of the tin mining industry 💎. Not only is it incredibly photogenic, but it's also packed with endless local delicacies and creative cultural souvenirs to explore. ✨ 📍 Location: Concubine Lane (Lorong Panglima) 🏮 📍 Address: Lorong Panglima, 30000 Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia 🇲🇾 🚗 Transport: Located in the heart of Ipoh Old Town 👣. If you're already grabbing a coffee in the Old Town, it's just a 2-3 minute walk away. From the Ipoh Railway Station, it's about a 10-minute walk 🚕. 🚶♂️ 💰 Cost: Free to visit and take photos 💰. 🕒 Suggested Time: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM 🕙. It's recommended to arrive early on weekends because this alley is extremely narrow and gets really bustling (and crowded) once the crowds roll in! ⏳ 🌿 Experience Highlights: A Sensory Feast in the Old Alleys 😋 1. Streets Bursting with Nostalgia 📸: The narrow alley is flanked by vibrantly colored heritage buildings, with overhead decorations of red lanterns or colorful artistic umbrellas ☂️. 📷 Photo Tip: Stand right in the middle of the lane to capture the perspective, or find a rustic, peeling wooden door as your backdrop for the most story-rich vintage shot 🎥. 2. A Hub for Creative Street Food 🍡: There's plenty of viral foods here, like the rainbow cheese toast 🌈, classic Ice Balls 🍧, and silky-smooth Tau Fu Fah (soybean pudding) 🍮. Eating while strolling is the true way to experience Concubine Lane! 📷 Photo Tip: Hold your colorful Ice Ball or toast with the heritage street in the background for a perfect "foodie memory" snap 🌟. 3. Cultural and Souvenir Treasure Hunting 🎁: Hidden in the alley are numerous exquisite handicraft stores, nostalgic toy shops, and souvenir boutiques. You can find Malaysian-themed magnets, postcards, and even retro Nanyang-style tableware 🍽️. 4. History and Legends 📜: Besides Concubine Lane, there are also "Wife Lane" and "Market Lane" nearby. Legend has it that these alleys were properties gifted by the tin mining tycoon, Yau Tet Shin, to his three wives. The family lore behind these streets adds quite a bit of mystery to the area 💭. 🏙️ Nearby Itinerary Suggestions: · Ipoh White Coffee ☕: A 2-minute walk away, head to Nam Heong or Sin Yoon Loong for a cup of authentic hot or cold white coffee 🥢. · Ipoh Mural Tour 🎨: The Old Town is scattered with stunning street art that rivals Penang's George Town—hunt for surprises as you walk around 📸. · Kellie's Castle 🏰: About a 30-minute drive away, explore an unfinished romantic Scottish legacy 📜. 💡 Travel Tips 🌟 1. Avoid Rainy Days ☔: The alley has limited drainage and some sections can get slippery. Visiting on a sunny day guarantees the best lighting for your photos ☀️. 2. Dress Cool 👗: The weather in Ipoh is hot! Wear light, breathable clothes, or bring a vintage folding fan—it beats the heat and makes for a fantastic photo prop 🪭! 3. Feast to Your Heart's Content 🍲: After strolling through the lane, remember to visit nearby famous bean sprout chicken restaurants (like Lou Wong or Onn Kee) to refuel 🆙! 🌟 Overall Rating: 7/10 💎 Although Concubine Lane isn't very long, it perfectly condenses Ipoh's historical essence and modern creativity 🌿. Bustling, colorful, and full of life, it's the absolute best starting point to soak in the charm of Ipoh Old Town 🧡. What are you most excited to try—the old-school Ice Ball or the dazzling rainbow cheese toast? Drop a comment and let me know! 😊💬 🏮🍧✨

Guys, this place is absolutely stunning! Beyond its beauty, it actually tells so many heartbreaking stories. Every time I walked into a room, I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of sadness. It’s located in Ipoh, about a 3-hour drive from KL. You really should come here and experience it for yourself 🥹

One day in Ipoh but packed with iconic spots ✨ Started the morning at Sam Poh Tong Temple — peaceful cave temple vibes, surrounded by limestone hills that feel straight out of a movie 🏞️ Next stop: Tasik Cermin. Hidden, calm, and honestly so magical… the reflection on the lake is unreal. Feels like a secret spot you accidentally discovered 🌿 Ended the day at Kellie’s Castle — a little eerie, a little romantic, and full of history. Sunset there just hits different 🌅 Three places, three completely different vibes — and somehow it all fits perfectly in one day. Ipoh, you’re full of surprises 🤍

I usually book my flights and hotels on Trip.com, as it's safe and reliable. This time, I took it a step further and booked a one-day chartered car service to Ipoh via the app just two days before my trip to Penang (attraction tickets and meals are at your own expense). A day before the trip, the car rental company proactively contacted me to confirm the hotel pick-up address and departure time. This time, a young guide picked us up and drove us around to visit several famous attractions in Ipoh and taste the local food. 🗺️ [Itinerary] Penang to Ipoh, approx. 2 hours by car: [Kellie’s Castle] Construction of this castle began 100 years ago by a Scottish plantation owner, featuring a blend of Scottish, Moorish, and Indian architectural styles. Some areas have been restored and are open to the public, making it a popular photo spot in Ipoh. [Mirror Lake (Tasik Cermin)] We enjoyed two lake views here: one by walking through an old mining tunnel to see the lake, and the other by putting on life jackets and taking a rubber boat (about a 20-minute ride) through a limestone cave to admire the surrounding karst mountains and their reflections. [Lunch: Lou Wong Bean Sprout Chicken] We had lunch at Ipoh's most popular and historic bean sprout chicken restaurant! The signature poached chicken is tender and flavorful, perfectly paired with crunchy, plump bean sprouts and smooth flat rice noodles. Highly recommended. [Concubine Lane] After lunch, we strolled down this hundred-meter-long colorful alleyway, lined with murals, lanterns, and shops on both sides. [Ho Yan Hor Museum] Located near Concubine Lane, it's a great place to drop by and learn about the founding history and traditional Chinese medicine culture behind Ipoh's famous herbal tea brand, "Ho Yan Hor". [Afternoon Tea: Nam Heong] Ipoh is the birthplace of OldTown White Coffee. We enjoyed their signature white coffee paired with freshly baked egg tarts in the nostalgic atmosphere of this traditional coffee shop. [Ipoh Railway Station] A century-old historical building and a major transportation hub, it also served as one of the filming locations for the movie "Anna and the King". 💡 [Tips] I suggest inviting your young guide to join you for meals. It's a great way to chat about their daily lives and gain a deeper understanding of Malaysia's local culture and customs. Food White Coffee One-day Tour

Who would have thought! Climbing Penang Hill without tiring your legs, and getting a full view of George Town, the Strait, and the surrounding mountains all at once! This 821-meter-high peak of Penang Island hides a century-old funicular railway, rainforest secrets, and unbeatable sunsets. Personally tested, it's fun and photogenic, with a foolproof guide to avoid pitfalls👇 🌿 Background Knowledge (Educational Version) Penang Hill is Malaysia’s first mountain retreat for escaping the heat, named by British colonial troops using flag signals. The funicular railway, opened in 1924, is one of Asia’s earliest mountain railways, stretching 2007 meters and reaching the summit in just 5 minutes, still in operation today. In 2021, it was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, serving as the city’s green lung and a natural oxygen bar. 🚠 Must-Experience Highlights (No Regrets List) · Century-old train yyds🚂: Step into a vintage carriage and feel the near 45° steep slope’s weightlessness. Outside the window, rainforest and colonial mansions flash by, and you might even spot playful long-tailed macaques! Ride at the back going up and at the front coming down for the best views and 100% photo success. · 360° panoramic viewing platform🌄: The Habitat’s skywalk is suspended above the rainforest. On clear days, you can clearly see George Town’s red rooftops, the Penang Strait, and distant islands. At sunset, the sky is painted in colors, and at night, the city lights sparkle below, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. · Summit stroll and history check-in🏡: The English-style David Brown’s restaurant offers a romantic terrace afternoon tea; a mosque and Hindu temple stand side by side, showcasing a century of tolerance; the Governor’s Villa gatehouse (built in 1789) is the oldest building on the hill, perfect for vintage-style photos. · Off-the-beaten-path activities: Share a sightseeing car (30 MYR/car, seats 5) to tour celebrity mansions with historical commentary; hike the 4 km Heritage Trail for an immersive rainforest experience. 💡 Practical Tips + Pitfall Avoidance (Tested and Effective) 1. How to get there: Take bus 204 from Komtar in George Town for 2 MYR directly to the hill base in 30 minutes; Grab rides cost about 10-25 MYR and take 20 minutes, offering great value. 2. Don’t waste money on tickets: Round-trip funicular tickets are 30 MYR/adult; the 80 MYR fast track is totally unnecessary! Off-peak or Monday ticket purchases on-site usually have no queues, saving money and hassle. 3. How to schedule your time: Arrive before 7 AM to avoid crowds and heat; the mountain breeze is very cool. Go up in the evening to catch sunset and night views for double the experience. Half a day is enough for exploring, eating, and taking photos. 4. Essentials to bring: It’s 5-8°C cooler on the hill than at the base, so bring a light jacket; wear comfortable sports shoes as there are many trails; apply sunscreen, use mosquito repellent, and carry water and some cash (some small shops only accept cash). 5. Pitfall red lines: ❌ Don’t feed the monkeys! Don’t hold food in your hand or it will be snatched; ❌ The glass skywalk costs 60 MYR/person, avoid if you’re afraid of heights; ❌ Don’t miss the last downhill funicular (20:45 on weekdays, slightly later on holidays); ❌ Don’t trust roadside “cheap fast tickets,” official counters are the most reliable. ✨ Heartfelt Summary Penang Hill is not just a “hike,” it’s a ride on a century-old funicular through time, a healing embrace of the entire Penang from the summit. No crowded crowds, just fresh mountain air, stunning views, and leisurely moments. When you come to Penang, be sure to include Penang Hill in your itinerary—it will surprise you beyond expectations!

Kellie’s Castle is a place you should definitely visit when you’re in Ipoh. The architecture is very beautiful and unique, and it’s an excellent spot for photography with a cinematic, vintage vibe. However, one important thing to note is that the castle is quite far from the city center. If you’re traveling without a car, it can be difficult to get a ride back, so make sure to plan your transportation in advance. Overall, it’s a stunning and photogenic location. If you enjoy taking photos and exploring historical architecture, this place is absolutely worth the visit.

I recently visited the Kinta River Walk at night, and it was a wonderful experience that truly added to the "city of its own" vibe I love about Ipoh. Even though it feels like a quiet escape, it is not far from the city center at all. I found that Grab functions very easily there, making it a quick and convenient ride from the heritage area. The ambience and looks of the riverfront after sunset are beautiful. Thousands of colorful LED lights are strung across the trees and bridges, reflecting off the water to create a magical, glowing atmosphere. It’s a very clean and peaceful place for a stroll, with a cool evening breeze that makes it feel very relaxing.

The Heritage Trail Ipoh is a two-hour walking tour that delves into the historical landmarks and old town areas of Ipoh, including the Ipoh Railway station, City Hall, and Birch Memorial Clock Tower. The trail provides a detailed map for easy navigation and showcases the city's transformation from a mining state to a historical site under British colonial occupation.
