Revisiting Krk: My "Golden Island" Mediterranean Paradise! ☀️🏝️
#summervacay
I just had my second visit to Krk, famously known as the "Golden Island" (Insula Aurea) since Roman times. And it truly lives up to its name – every scene, with its sunshine, turquoise waters, and olive groves, feels like it's bathed in gold!
Krk is Croatia's largest island, spanning 408 square kilometers but home to only 20,000 residents. It's perfect for escaping the crowds and enjoying some peace and quiet. Lonely Planet even hails it as a hidden European gem, more untouched than Santorini!
Must-Do Experiences:
Full-Day Boat Tour: I booked another boat tour through GYG this time. We departed from Punat and explored five different islands, visited a Franciscan monastery, saw griffon vultures on Cres Island, and snorkeled in a Blue Cave. If you're lucky, you might even spot dolphins!
12th-Century Krk Town: This charming town, with its medieval castle and churches, feels straight out of Game of Thrones! I loved Browse the many souvenir and specialty shops – truffle paste and truffle olive oil make for excellent local gifts.
Beach Lounging: Krk Island boasts numerous beaches. Last year, I visited Korali beach. This time, due to a tighter schedule, I chose a spot closer to Krk Town for swimming. However, on the way back, I stumbled upon a secluded bay (pictured in images 10-11) that was perfect for swimming and paddleboarding. It was incredibly calm and peaceful – a truly serene escape!
