The beach is absolutely stunning, framed by high cliffs and adorned with sea stacks, grottos, and small secluded beaches. It's no wonder this beach consistently ranks in the top 5 beaches in Portugal. Parking can be a challenge as the car park was crowded, so I recommend arriving early if you're driving. We took a small hike along the cliff tops, and the views were simply breathtaking. The emerald green waters below were a sight to behold.

Seven Hanging Valleys Trail & Praia da Marinha Some days become unforgettable without even trying. For us, this was one of them. We arrived at Praia da Marinha parking lot early in the morning to hike the famous Seven Hanging Valleys Trail, and we’re so glad we did. Even at the end of May, the parking lot was already filling up, so if you’re visiting during the warmer months, we’d definitely recommend arriving as early as possible. Before starting the hike, we walked to the famous Praia da Marinha viewpoint. It’s only a short, easy walk from the parking area, and the view is simply breathtaking. Standing there, looking out over the turquoise Atlantic, the golden limestone cliffs, and the sea stacks rising from the water, it’s easy to understand why Praia da Marinha is often considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. There are public restrooms nearby, along with a few small stalls selling fresh fruit, drinks, and snacks, perfect if you forgot to pack something. Facing the ocean from the viewpoint: ➡️ Turn right to begin the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail. ⬅️ Turn left to reach Praia da Marinha. We decided to start with the hike. And what a hike it was. The trail follows the cliffs almost the entire way, constantly revealing new viewpoints over hidden beaches, dramatic rock formations, sinkholes, natural arches, and the endless Atlantic Ocean. One thing that amazed us was imagining how this coastline came to exist. These spectacular limestone cliffs were shaped over millions of years by the combined forces of the ocean, wind, and rain, slowly carving caves, arches, and valleys into the landscape. Nature truly is the best artist. The views are so incredible that we found ourselves stopping every few minutes to take another photo… or simply admire the scenery. If you’re planning to do this hike, make sure to bring: 🧢 A hat or cap. 💧 Plenty of water. 🧴 Sunscreen. There is almost no shade along the trail, so on sunny days the heat can be intense. We continued walking until the famous Benagil Cave viewpoint, about 3 km from Praia da Marinha. Although you can’t walk into the cave itself, the viewpoint lets you look down through its iconic opening from above, a completely different perspective from the boat and kayak tours below. After enjoying the views, we made our way back using a slightly different path. One thing we loved about this area is that there are several interconnected trails, so you can create your own route instead of simply retracing your steps. Once we returned, it was finally time to slow down. We walked down to Praia da Marinha and spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing by the sea. The ocean was a little rough that day, but it didn’t stop us from enjoying one of Portugal’s most spectacular beaches. Golden cliffs surrounded us on every side, the water shimmered in shades of turquoise and deep blue, and the whole place felt almost unreal. If you get hungry, there’s also a restaurant overlooking the beach where you can stop for a meal or a refreshing drink before heading home. Looking back, it wasn’t just a hike. It was a day of discovering incredible landscapes, appreciating the power of nature, and ending it all with our feet in the ocean. Dear future us, never forget how small we felt standing above those cliffs, and how lucky we were to experience them together. 💙 ⸻ 💡 Our Tips 🥾 Start early—the parking lot fills up quickly. 🧢 Bring a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water. Collapse becomes creation, as fallen ceilings turn into new openings, and sea stacks stand isolated in the surf like remnants of an unfinished world. Every wave is both erosion and instruction — reshaping the land without haste, without interruption. Walking this coast is to witness a process that never stops. Not scenery, but geology in motion.
