Starting from the Minam Store in Oregon, Washington, you are able to rent all the necessary equipment for your adventure, including large rafts, kayaks, paddles, dry boxes, coolers, dry bags, fire pans, life vests, and helmets. The Minam Store also provides any last-minute supplies you need for the trip, which is convenient. We embarked on a three-day journey downstream, and the breathtaking views of the mountains, wildlife, and untouched nature made the experience even more memorable. Despite encountering low water levels in some areas, which caused our raft to get stuck on rocks frequently, the river's speed allowed us to reach your destination as planned. Overcoming these obstacles definettly added some excitement to your trip. At the end of our adventure, the employees from the Minam Store arranged for our vehicle to be dropped off at a convenient location. This location had restrooms and easy access to the river, allowing us to have one final splash before concluding our trip. We enjoyed your white water rafting journey on the Grande Ronde River. In 2019, I took a leave of absence from college and was worried about my future. I wandered around a lot and didn't have a clear future goal in sight, so I went on a trip to the United States. Among them, I visited Lavender Valley in Oregon, which is known as a hot place for Koreans. My first thought was that it was too famous only in our country and that it wasn't anything special. On the contrary, looking at the endless lavender, I realized that the world I had seen so far was so small and shabby, and it was a place that allowed me to broaden my perspective. Oregon is a state in the northwestern part of the United States. The largest city is Portland, and the place I traveled to is also Portland. I walked around downtown Portland for a day, and although it was downtown, there weren't many people and it was quiet, so it was nice. There were a lot of restaurants and shopping malls, so there was a lot to see! In early July, I took a three-day loop in Oregon, from Portland to Bend. Along the way, there were so many surprises: snow-capped mountains, forests, streams, waterfalls, and desert (High Desert). This article mainly introduces the snow mountain-related attractions. All the attractions mentioned here require just over 1 hour of pure driving time (blue route on p18). p1-2 white river west sno-park In summer, there are streams formed by snowmelt from the mountain; in winter, it’s covered in snow. It’s not a well-known spot, but many RVs and elegant older couples come here with small stools to drink tea and chat. p3-5 Parkdale RFPD - Mt Hood Station The first two photos are taken on the slope opposite the fire station, and the last one is on the road a bit further south of the fire station. p6-11 Hood River Lavender Farm Lavender farm + wine tasting. The farm offers lavender ice cream full of ice crystals. You can pick lavender yourself. The souvenir shop sells lavender-related items like essential oils, sprays, and tea. The wine tasting area doesn’t have much food, only cold cuts and cheese platters, but the strawberries on the platter are surprisingly delicious. Facing north, you can see Mt Adams in Washington state; facing south, you can see Mt Hood. p12 Hope Ranch Lavender Another lavender farm with fewer visitors. There are white chairs perfect for photos (unlike the colorful chairs at Hood River Lavender Farm, which don’t inspire photo-taking). You can see both Mt Adams and Mt Hood here. You can also pick lavender yourself, and the souvenir shop is similar. p13 Panorama Point A parking lot next to a private residence, located at a higher elevation with no obstructions. You can enjoy a distant view of Mt Hood. Nearby are some private farms and orchards. p14-17 Timberline Lodge This hotel was a filming location for The Shining, located halfway up Mt Hood. In summer, you can start hiking to the snow line from here. The trail is steep, so hiking poles are recommended. p18 Overall route map in the photo. Starting from Portland, it takes 1 hour to reach point A, Panorama Point, at the northernmost side. After completing the blue route, heading west for about 1 hour 20 minutes will bring you back to Portland. Driving south for over 2 hours will get you to the towns of Sisters/Bend. 📷: sony a7r5

I flew out from Boston to meet my cousin from Oregon for a concert at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. This Hilton was the best option in terms of convenience and location. Despite being very close to the airport, we were hardly bothered by air traffic noise during our rest.

Google Maps says it’s about a 3 hour drive from Portland to Yachats. We somehow turned it into almost 6 hours, and honestly, it became one of my favorite days in Oregon. If you’re driving the Oregon Coast for the first time, don’t rush. Half the magic is stopping whenever the coastline makes you pull over. Here’s the route I’d recommend. 📍 Stop 1: Cape Foulweather (20 to 30 mins) Your first proper ocean view. Wide open cliffs, endless Pacific Ocean, and the perfect place to stretch your legs after leaving Portland. 📍 Stop 2: Devil’s Punchbowl (30 to 45 mins) A massive collapsed sea cave where waves crash into the rocks. Visit during high tide if you want the most dramatic views. 📍 Stop 3: Yaquina Head Lighthouse (1 to 1.5 hours) This was probably my favorite stop of the day. Walk to Oregon’s tallest lighthouse, enjoy the coastal viewpoints, and if the tide is low, head down to Cobble Beach. 📍 Stop 4: Newport (1 to 2 hours) The perfect lunch stop. We had breakfast at Cafe Stephanie before wandering around Nye Beach and the harbor. If you’re a seafood lover, you’ll have plenty of options here. 📍 Stop 5: Heceta Head Lighthouse (30 to 45 mins) Another postcard-worthy lighthouse sitting on dramatic cliffs. Even if you don’t hike up, the viewpoints from the parking area are worth the stop. 📍 Stop 6: Cape Perpetua Scenic Area (1.5 to 2 hours) Don’t skip this one. Explore Thor’s Well, Devil’s Churn, Spouting Horn, and drive up to the Cape Perpetua viewpoint for one of the best panoramas on the Oregon Coast. 📍 Arrive in Yachats Try to get here before sunset. Yachats feels quieter than Cannon Beach, with rugged cliffs, crashing waves, tide pools, and a peaceful small town atmosphere that’s perfect for slowing down. Our total driving time: about 3 hours. Our actual trip: almost 10 hours. And I wouldn’t change a thing. My biggest tip? Rent a car, leave early, and don’t plan every minute. Some of our favorite memories came from random roadside pullouts where we stopped simply because the view was too beautiful to drive past.

Visit Hobbit beach A short forest trail leads to a secluded beach surrounded by cliffs. Perfect if you want a quieter beach than Cannon Beach. 5. Ride an ATV on the Sand Dunes One of the most exciting activities on the Oregon Coast. Drive across massive sand dunes with ocean views. Tours are available for beginners, and helmets and safety gear are provided. Price: Around US$70 to $150 depending on the tour. 6. Horseback riding on the beach Ride along the coastline through sand dunes and beaches. Nearby stables offer guided rides for beginners and experienced riders. Price: Around US$80 to $150 per rider. 7. Drive the Oregon Coast highway (Highway 101) Simply driving this stretch is an attraction itself. You’ll pass towering forests, dramatic cliffs, hidden beaches, and countless scenic pullouts. 8. Grab a brink at Pelican Brewing Great seafood, local craft beer, and outdoor seating overlooking the beach. Perfect after a day of exploring. 9. Stay in a cozy beach cottage Instead of a hotel, book one of the charming beach cottages around Yachats for a quieter coastal experience. Watch the Sunset over the pacific Unlike the U.S. East Coast, Oregon’s west-facing coastline delivers spectacular sunsets over the ocean. Even on misty evenings, the coastline has a magical atmosphere. 💡 Tips Spend 2 to 3 days to fully explore the area. Bring a jacket, even in summer. Coastal weather changes quickly. Rent a car. Many of the best viewpoints are spread along Highway 101. If you’re driving between Portland and California, Yachats makes an excellent overnight stop.

The weather unfortunately has been pretty nasty, with heavy rain the last couple days, so I’d call it a subdued bloom as a few flower petals don’t wanna open up quite yet. By Monday or Tuesday, when we’re forecast to be in the mid 70’s they should be in full bloom. I got soaked out there this morning, but the blossoms looked pretty against those dark clouds…
