Penarth is a gorgeous Victorian seaside town in wales with laid-back vibes and a slower pace of life, a big commuter town for Cardiff it is popular among families for raising their children. It used to be a huge tourist spot at the turn of the century with it’s long beaches, promenade and pier being famous around the country. The pier has recently had a wonderful renovation and now houses a cafe, cinema and an event space. It is a beautiful example of Victorian architecture, having stood the test of time for nearly 130 years. You can walk out to the end of the pier and get a view of the town behind you, look out to England across the channel or watch boats coming in and out of the busy Cardiff port. The pier has lots of seating, classic ice cream shops and amazing photo spots of the town. Cardiff Bay is one of the highlights of the city and was made possible by the construction of the Cardiff Bay barrage, creating a man-made lake around which a range of entertainment zones have developed and thrived. Cardiff Bay offers amazing bars and restaurants along with the Welsh Assembly, Millennium Centre, and seasonal activities in Roald Dahl Pass. It is great for evenings and weekends and offers fun for all the family, especially during the holidays. If you want to stretch your legs a little bit, you can walk across the Cardiff Bay barrage and reach the gorgeous Victorian town of Penath. In just under an hour, you can follow the barrage signs and make your way to Penarth Marina; if you want to venture further, you can get to the historic Victorian town center, Penarth Pier, and the waterfront esplanade. There are many buses back to Cardiff from Penarth, so if you can’t do the return walk, don’t worry, public transport can help you here! The one-way walk takes around an hour, and along the way there are toilets, a cafe on the barrage, and a kids’ play area to break up the walk! The Pumping station is located just outside Cardiff near the Town of Penarth and it’s a favourite place among the locals for antiques, historical curiosities and vintage clothes. The old converted pump house is full of stalls run by independent vendors and specialists, who know everything you could possibly need about their niche. You can buy everything from garden statues and furniture to rare stamps and coins. There is also a lot of paintings, books and maps about the local area and a lot of information to be found from the vendors. Penarth is a stunning Victorian era town just 10 minutes to the south of Cardiff, famous for its red brick streets, well kept parks and its restored pier. The town is a sleepy little commuter town that’s offers a more relaxed feel to Cardiff and a more family orientated atmosphere. The town is lined with red brick Victorian terraces with lots of parks and churches dotted throughout, it’s very green and as it’s relatively quiet it’s safer than the big city. The town center is full of cafes, charity shops and small boutiques - it’s great for shopping and eating or just browsing local crafts. The beach front is a highlight with its restored Victorian era pier, you can walk to the end and take in the views or grab a coffee and snack from the cafes inside. There’s also a small independent cinema, art gallery and gift shop. I love this town for its time portal feel, you really do feel like you’ve left the present day and you’re able to enjoy a trouble free time here. #summervacay I just discovered a truly special piece of art history in London: Turner's House (Sandycombe Lodge)! This isn't just any old house; it was actually designed by the celebrated British landscape painter J.M.W. Turner himself and built in 1813. This charming residence served as Turner's personal retreat, a place where he could escape the bustling London art scene, paint in peace, and spend time with his father. While the museum isn't large, it's clear they put a lot of thought into making the experience interactive and engaging: In the bedroom, I looked through a telescope, and it showed me a projection of the very landscape that inspired Turner outside his window back in the day. How cool is that? The living room has a unique clock that actually "speaks"—a delightful surprise! The basement features a vivid and immersive projection display, really bringing the history and atmosphere to life. Planning My Visit: It's open Wednesday to Sunday, from 12 PM to 4 PM. Alexandra park is a beautiful park just off the main street in Penarth, Wales - it’s a great way to walk from the town center to the seafront. It contains a main path and a few smaller paths that wind down the hill through the beautiful landscaped gardens, the gardens feature beautiful topiary displays that the garden is famous for. The paths are very wide and some go through the wooded areas, so for hot days you are able to walk from top to bottom in shaded areas. There are plenty of places to sit and there is a small childrens play area half way down, during hot days there is an independent coffee vendor that sells hot and cold drinks. The park also features Penarth’s main war memorial dedicated to those who served or fell during the two World Wars, the cenotaph itself is a listed historical monument. Penarth is a beautiful seaside town and luckily my hometown, growing up here was amazing during the summers and it’s so nice to come back for a visit. The seafront has a long calm beach and the beachfront is lined with shops, restaurants and bars - newer independent coffee shops are also starting to appear. The highlight of the seafront is the Pier, built in 1898 it has become an iconic landmark for penarth and wales as a whole. The pier used to be a dock for steam boats that would cruise up and down the Bristol Channel. After a multi million pound refurbishment in 2013 the pier is now a big social hub for the area, the pavilion contains a cinema, cafe and ice cream parlours. On a road trip in the UK, one of the stops was in Cardiff. I woke up early in the morning and had no idea where to have brunch, so I just searched for nearby attractions on Google map and drove to Penarth Pier Pavilion. When we got there, we found it was so beautiful. A pier extending to the center of the sea, with a grey rocky beach and the grey sky that day, gave people a feeling of indescribable beauty with a hint of depression. The whole place felt very British. There are a series of huts of different colors behind the rocky beach, and different pubs in the basement provide breakfast, lunch and dinner.
