One of my go-to stalls is Sin Thor Eunos Bak Kut Teh and Braised Pork Knuckle. Their Bak Kut Teh is simply fantastic. The soup is rich with herbal flavors, while the tender pork ribs fall off the bone effortlessly. If you’re into braised meats, their Braised Pork Knuckle is a winner. It’s savory and melts in your mouth, paired perfectly with a bowl of rice. Another great find is Mr Mee Pok. This stall specializes in Teochew-style noodle dishes, and their Mee Pok is one of the best around. The noodles have the right amount of chewiness, and they’re tossed in a delicious mix of vinegar, chili, and other seasonings. The accompanying fishballs and minced pork add a satisfying bite to the meal. It’s a simple yet flavorful dish that keeps you coming back for more. Aside from these two stalls, there’s always something new to try at ABC Brickworks. This Halal stall is located in ABC Brickworks food court. I like both their Ayam Penyet (S$6) and Ikan Penyet (S$7). I had Ikan Penyet today. The fish was big in size and good value for money. It's tender, fresh and not fishy at all. The crispy skin was very fragrant. The set came with sambal, cucumber, lettuce, lime, crumbs and a small bowl of clear soup. Generous portion. This is my favourite Kueh Mueh stall located in ABC Brickworks Food Centre Bukit Merah. The owner is very friendly and welcoming. I like to go there early in the morning to get some kueh mueh for breakfast. Must try their curry puffs, so tasty, hot and crispy, very flavorful. They serve a variety of Kueh, such as Cekodok Pisang, Kueh Keria, Roti Boyan, Fried Popiah, Goreng Pisang, Green/Red Bean Kueh, Samosa and more. All the items are priced reasonably, from 70 cents to S$1.50 only. The price list is published clearly in front of the stall. Highly recommend this stall if you like Kueh Mueh like me. The food court is decorated nicely with Chinese New Year lights, and looks very festive. I love our multiracial and multicultural society. This dessert stall is well-known for their Power Cendol and Gangster Ice. Their Power Cendol is full of thick and fragrant gula melaka sauce, which gives the Chendol a strong robust flavour. One of the best Chendol in Singapore. The Gangster Ice comes with decadent mango chunks and durian puree atop shaved ice. Great value! They have a wide range of old and new fashion types of hot or cold desserts. I like their Cheng Teng (clear soup with dried longan, Gingko, pearl barley, and white fungus. This stall is located in ABC Brickworks Food Centre in Bukit Merah. Their fried hokkien prawn mee tastes good. I like the sambal squeezed with lime juice, matched so well with the noodle. It's always a queue during peak hours. Please be patient. The owner is an old uncle, assisted by an old aunty. I salute them for working hard at their age. Nusa & Tara serves delicious traditional Muslim food at reasonable prices. the popular dishes are lontong, nasi sambal, mee siam, mee rebus, mee soto, mee goreng and economic rice. Their lontong is super good, perfect texture and matches so tasty with the rich gravy and vegetables. Please expect a queue during peak hours, especially in the morning. The owners were friendly, service was fast. The owner is very generous with the portion of food. Their Kway Chap (S$4) comes with a big bowl of braised pork belly, intestines, taopok, pork skins, and a whole egg. Really value for money and tastes excellent. I like their homemade chili sauce; the sourness balances the strong flavour of the braised ingredients. Their intestines are cleaned very well, no weird or bitter taste at all. They have preserved vegetables “kiam chai” for add-on. Their braised pig trotter is also a must order, tender and full of gelatin. They also serve Bak Kut Teh and Mixed Pork’s Soup. Please note that they only start selling Kway Chap at 12pm. If you arrive earlier, you may have to wait for the food to be ready. This is a new stall in ABC Brickworks Food Centre, opened not long ago. They gave free soya bean curd with red bean during the first 2 days of their opening. What a generous marketing offer. Their soya bean curd is super silky smooth and rich, melts in your mouth. I like the mixed soya bean curd with ginko, lotus seeds and red bean (S$3). Really value for money for the amount of ingredients added. It’s piping hot, be careful while eating or else it might burn your tongue. I also like their traditional handmade soya bean drink. The menu is simple, they offer Donburi served with pickles & onsen egg and Curry served with carrots & potatoes, each set comes with a small bowl of miso soup. There are Chicken/Pork/Fish Katsu Don, Ebi Fry Don, Karaage/Yakitori Chicken Don. Prices from S$5.50 to S$6.00. You may add on Ebi Fry or Yakitori, and Onsen Egg from S$1.20. I ordered the Chicken Katsu Curry, the chicken was thick and juicy, and the outside was crispy. They use Japanese rice, which matches really well with the sweet savory Japanese curry. If you want spicier, you can add the chili powder placed at the front counter of the stall. Overall, tasty and value for money. Service was fast. This stall is a hidden gem in ABC Brickworks Food Centre. Even though there is not much media attention, you can guess the food quality from the queue. Their soy sauce chicken looks extremely tempting because of the shiny colour. I ordered the Soy Sauce Chicken Noodle (S$4), the uncle was so generous in ingredients, he gave me chicken wing plus thick chicken breast, The noodles were springy, They were a bit salty but still delicious. You can also order half chicken (S$9.50) or whole chicken (S$18) to bring home and enjoy with your family. The price is very reasonable. Interestingly, I saw there is an option for Half Noodle (60 cents only) on the menu, great for small eaters. This stall is famous for their fried fish thick bee hoon soup, seafood soup, and batang fish slice Teochew porridge (S$4/5/6). They used to have “Ban Mian” and “Mee Hoon Kueh” but are now no longer available because the owners were overwhelmed by so many different orders. They will just focus on fish soup dishes. I like their “Ee Mee” fried fish soup, it was so good and sweet, I can taste the essence of fish, a decent portion for a small eater. You may choose to add the evaporated milk. The Singapore economic fried bee hoon or rice vermicelli is a simple dish of bee hoon stir fried with vegetables and seasonings. It is one of the most common traditional local breakfasts. This stall serves really affordable fried bee hoon/noodles/kway teow (S$0.90), and a variety of toppings or side dishes such as fried chicken wings, luncheon meat, hotdog, fillet, tofu, fishcake, egg, from 50 cent to S$1.50, and even peanut porridge (S$1.10). If in doubt, choose a fried sunny side egg and luncheon meat. It is always a long queue in the morning, but the uncle and aunty are fast in serving. Hong Sheng Fish Soup has several branches in Singapore. They serve nice fish soup, spinach soup (SGD4/5/6) and a new menu “pao fan” (SGD5/7/12). I like their sliced fish more than fried fish. Fried fish soup is a bit salty to me. “Pao fan" literally translated as submerged rice, is a soupy dish that looks like Teochew porridge, savory concoction of white rice, seafood broth, topped with clams, sliced fish, minced meatballs, and bitter gourd. Ah Er Soup serves traditional Chinese herbal soups. It was awarded a Bib Gourmand title in the 2017 Michelin Guide, an award that recognises hawker stalls serving affordable and delicious food. The Buddha Jumps Over the Wall comes with a generous amount of ingredients like fish maw, abalone, and chicken. Their soups are rich and thick, not the clear soup type. You can choose olive rice or pumpkin rice or white rice. Also have side dishes like braised pork, eggs and bean curd skin. Project Penyet has increased the price of their signature Nasi Ayam Penyek from SGD5.50 to SGD6.50, it seems that it does affect the business slightly. Last time there was always a long queue, now the waiting time is shorter. I love their Ayam Penyet, it was deep-fried before serving, crispy on the outside and the meat remains tender and juicy, not too oily. The rice was fragrant, sambal was good, quite spicy though. You can choose either chicken drumstick or chicken wings and breast, both for the same price. They also serve fried fish and seafood. The owner was friendly and accommodating. Delicious Hainanese Curry Rice at ABC Brickworks Food Centre at a really affordable price. They have a good selection of dishes. Pork chop, chicken chop, braised pork belly and tofu, curry chicken, black pepper beef, sesame chicken, fungus pork, tomato scrambled eggs, omelette, stir-fry cabbage with glass noodles, steamed egg, stir-fry brinjal, and more. The pork chop was perfectly marinated and so crispy. You may choose to have the curry gravy or not. Free egg drop soup, self-service. Overall, it is an awesome economic rice stall. Please expect a long queue during lunch hour, but the line moves quite fast. The owner Jason is from Penang and was formerly the Chef of the British high commissioner. I love their Penang Assam Laksa (SGD4), it is the best I have ever tried so far in Singapore. The Assam Laksa is made with shredded mackerel fish, tamarind, sliced cucumber, onions, pineapple, mint and shrimp paste. Perfect balance of spiciness, sweetness, and sourness, very appetizing. Their Char Kway Teow (SGD4) is also delicious, he put a generous amount of ingredients and two big prawns, very flavorful. Each mouthful was full of wok hei. The legendary Fatty Cheong stall at ABC Brickworks Food Centre is famous for their thick cuts char siew drenched in sweet dark gravy. I love their perfect glistening caramelised fatty strips of pork with crispy charred edges. It is one of the best roast meat stalls in Singapore. If you're craving some good char siew, Fatty Cheong is the choice. They also have Wanton mee, roast duck rice, roast pork rice, and mixed meat rice. Prices start at $4.00 for a plate of char siew rice. It is usually a long queue during lunch time, but the lines move pretty fast. This is a newly opened stall in ABC Brickworks Food Centre, Bukit Merah, run by two friendly ladies. I tried their Dry Mee Hun Kueh (SGD4.50) and it was so good! The ingredients consist of mee hun kueh in dark sauce, minced meat, anchovies, fried onions, and a heap of ground chili, and came with a mini bowl of vegetable soup with an egg in it. It was such an incredibly hearty and satisfying meal that I’ve come to fall in love with. The soup version is good too. This stall is in ABC Brickworks Market & Food Centre, run by an old uncle and aunty. Most locals find Kopitiam coffee is still the best. The price is very reasonable especially in the heartlands market and housing estate. Their coffee and tea range from as little as 80 cents to SGD1.50. A set meal only costs SGD3 each, for a set of soft-boiled eggs, toast and coffee/tea. Value for money. A great option for breakfast. By default, a coffee comes with condensed milk and sugar at the bottom of the cup.
