Embarking on a journey to Aberdeen, Hong Kong, is akin to stepping into a vibrant tapestry of culture, history, and natural beauty. The bustling streets are adorned with colorful signage, and strolling down the Aberdeen harbour can feel somewhat like a throwback to the Hong Kong that existed in the late 20th century. Personally, I found the Aberdeen ferry service to Ap Lei Chau an interesting experience. While it appears to be is an outdated service that will no longer finds relevance in this metropolis, and yet it continues to humbly bring people across the harbour at very affordable prices. (I also thought this was a pocket friendly way to tour the harbour haha) The highlight of my trip in Aberdeen was probably exploring the Aberdeen Market. Cramped, wet, and with people jostlying around, it might not be everyone's cup of team but I found it to be a great way to peek into the everyday lives of the locals. Buying fish from one of the stalls is as local an experience as it can get! Thereafter I brought it up to the food court upstairs and had it prepared. He believes that its predecessor was the "Getang boat" originating from Guangzhou and the Pearl River. The Ether White Seafood Boat in the Jumbo Kingdom has the oldest history, being built in 1950 and initially located at the location of Aberdeen Seaside Road and Aberdeen Waterfront Park near Hunan Street. In the heyday of the 1950s, more than 10 seafood boats were anchored at the Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter, of which the Taibai Seafood boat was the largest. It was invested by businessman Yuen Yong, who originally ran the Da Scene Restaurant (the current location of Kung Kee) in Wellington Street in Central. In 2019, the food and tourism industry has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic Two seafood boats anchored in Shen Wan have been closed since March 2020 due to the spread of the 2019 coronavirus disease epidemic in Hong Kong. The larger Jumbo Seafood boat was donated to Ocean Park in November 2020. It only takes 10 minutes to walk from Exit A2 of Leyton MTR Station! You can enjoy the view of the typhoon shelter along the Ap Lei Chau Promenade. There is also a small pier in Ap Lei Chau and Aberdeen for citizens to ferry across the coast to and from both Aberdeen and Ap Lei Chau.
