Al-Azhar Mosque|Scholastic philosophy and natural science are incompatible
|Scholastic philosophy and natural science are incompatible. The libraries of various madrasas in Baghdad and Cairo were once treasuries of human scientific knowledge, but for a millennium, countless European scholars have traveled across the seas to translate the ancient scrolls back into European languages, branching out until the Renaissance finally pulled Europe back to the forefront.
It is possible that some are still familiar with the renown of the House of Wisdom in Baghdad 800 years ago, but Al-Azhar University in Cairo, the largest academic center of the Middle Ages, has long since faded away with the fall of dynasties and the European Renaissance.
Monument: Al-Azhar Mosque

【City Axis】The Al-Azhar Mosque, founded in AD 970, is of early Arabian style and was the central point of urban planning during the Fatimid dynasty, also recognized as an academic authority by Islamic scholars.
【Affiliated College】The madrasa founded in AD 988 has evolved into a university, which is the second oldest in the world:
① AD 970 - University of Al Quaraouiyine in Morocco
② AD 988 - Al-Azhar University in Egypt
③ AD 1088 - University of Bologna in Italy
【Change of Flag】In AD 972, the Fatimid dynasty general Jawhar built the Great Mosque of Cairo, in honor of the Prophet's daughter (Fatimah Al-Zahra) Fatimah Zahra, and officially renamed it 'Al-Azhar' which is still in use today.
The Fatimid dynasty (909-1171) ruled Egypt for over two hundred years, during which this college was the center for propagating Shia doctrine and for educational and academic activities, and later Cairo replaced Baghdad as the center of Islamic culture in the world.
After the dissolution of the Fatimid dynasty in 1171, the Ayyubid dynasty established by Saladin reaffirmed it as a Sunni educational forefront and center of advanced scholarship.
Al-Azhar has been attracting scholars from Europe and the entire world for a millennium and remains the most prestigious Sunni theological college to this day.
【Surface Remains】Apart from three minarets and a few walls, almost everything was destroyed in the resistance against Napoleon's war, the oldest being the central courtyard and the public fountain square. The three minarets, built from the 14th to the 16th century from south to north, the tallest one was added by the then Sultan Ghouri, and the Ghouri Mosque, madrasa, and mausoleum, as well as the attached caravan inn, are right next door.

The Al-Azhar Mosque is the first mosque in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. It was built in 970 AD and was the most attractive building in the newly built Fatima city. It is said that his patriarch was also the highest authority of Egyptian Muslims at the time.
In 988, the first Islamic school established in Egypt, which later became a university, was the second oldest institution in the world, attracting countless Arab countries to learn to study Sunni theory. Then, after nearly a thousand years of continuous improvement, and the fusion of architectural style and other forms formed today's Al-Azhar Mosque.
No tickets, access to slippers, free storage at the door.
Most Egyptians spend a lot of time every day in the mosque. In addition to prayer, it seems to be like their home. They are resting under the gallery and chatting with a friend.
Not just the elderly, there are also many young people here, and people can't help but feel that the Muslim faith is one of the best beliefs in the world.
Many people are lying in the mosque to sleep, but to be honest, the taste of the carpet is particularly heavy. It feels like it has not been washed for hundreds of years. I wanted to stay in the mosque for a while. After all, I liked the environment very much. I can be quiet, and there is still some time from the train at night, but I cant stand the one, I have to leave and hang out on the streets of Cairo.
