Historic buildings
The Atkinson Clock Tower is the only building left from the 1945 coalition bombing. The wooden clock tower is square and 15.7 meters high. It was completed in 1905 and named after the city's governor, F.G. Atkinson. Ai Kinsen, the first governor of Kota Kinabalu, died of malaria at the age of 28. His mother in England, Lady Mary Edith, built the clock tower on Brace Hill in 1905 in memory of her son, who died young. From its construction until 1956, it was a navigation device to identify the direction of ships entering the port. There is nothing very worth seeing in the clock tower itself or in the vicinity. If you happen to pass by, you can stop by.
