Recommended Hongdae Food: 100-year-old local ginseng chicken soup
Address: 118 Yanghwa-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea
서울특별시 마포구 양화로 118
Atmosphere/Facilities: A local old shop with a little crowd, a traditional Korean restaurant
Features: Ginseng chicken soup, fried ginseng, fried chicken
Price per person: ¥20,000
Rating: A ginseng chicken soup specialty store located 200-300 meters straight from Exit 9 of Hongik University. I have been to Hongdae several times and did some research but never came here!
We had quite a large group this time so we ordered almost every flavor! The black garlic soup is the darkest in color and has a strong black garlic flavor, while the regular ginseng chicken soup has a very light taste. Need to add some seasoning or eat with kimchi! The dishes are served quite quickly, and the meat of the young spring chicken has been stewed until it is tender and the meat and bones are separated! The taste is slightly woody! The fried chicken skin is very small, the fried chicken in the general market! It’s crispy! The gravy should be eaten while hot, as the meat is also a bit tough at the end! But overall it tastes pretty good 👍! Although you can see many tour buses and many travel books introducing it! But it is still worth recommending!
Before leaving, I saw three tables of local Koreans who had made reservations, and their appetizers turned out to be fried ginseng! And everyone enjoyed the meal! I just realized that the correct appetizer to start ginseng chicken soup is fried ginseng!
