#Baimo Cave Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Bama in Guangxi - a synonym for longevity
Bama Yao Autonomous County in Hechi City, Guangxi, is one of the world's five longevity towns. The world standard for longevity is having 7.5 centenarians per 100,000 people. The word 'longevity' deeply attracts a large number of tourists to come and explore the mystery, as well as wellness seekers who stay here.
This time, following a group of 30 people to Bama, I feel that the itinerary is quite to my liking.
The first stop: 'Bird Rock'. Departing from Beihai City, after about more than 6 hours of bumpy travel, we arrived at the scenic area around 14:00 in the afternoon. The main activity is boat touring, and our group of 10 tourists put on life jackets and sat down. There was a soft-spoken guide on the boat who said that this underground river cave is a masterpiece of nature that took hundreds of millions of years to form. The cave is home to 'rock swallows', and it's not that there are many species of birds, but the number is spectacular. Although the weather outside was cool, when I dipped my hand into the water, it felt warm. It also has a nice name called 'Water Ripple Skylight'. Looking up, every time we sailed a distance, a skylight would shine through, brightening and dimming intermittently, leaving me stunned by these natural wonders.
The second stop: 'Hundred Demon Cave'. It was originally called 'Bai Mo Cave', and I don't know when, but scientific explorers gave this cave a more shocking name, 'Hundred Demon Cave'. A guide took us into the first cave, and the famous saying of Master Wanxing, 'Turn your back on the past, face the future, live in the present', immediately caught my attention and was deeply philosophical. In the high magnetic therapy experience area, rehabilitation personnel come here to get a card for magnetic therapy. I also sat down for a while to feel it. Between the two caves, there is a vegetation belt, and the guide introduced that the negative oxygen ions here can reach up to 100,000 per cubic meter in summer, and even 20,000 to 40,000 in winter. I greedily took deep breaths, reluctant to leave this natural oxygen bar. Entering the second cave, we had some free time, and I found this cave even more beautiful. It is said, 'Three parts resemblance, seven parts imagination', and here you can freely and willfully spread the wings of your imagination and let yourself fly. The rocks, under the effect of the lights, bloom beautifully. I fell in love with each one I saw, constantly snapping photos, and still felt it wasn't enough, not wanting to leave at all.
The third stop: Ren Shou Yuan. A scenic area that has been developed in recent years, featuring long-table feasts and Yao ethnic dance performances as the main attractions. With an additional fee of 190 yuan, I was not interested in participating, so I strolled around in Pinglin Village instead. On the village's publicity board, I discovered the source of longevity. As early as the Qing Dynasty, the longevity of the people of Bama alarmed the emperor. In 1898, Emperor Guangxu personally ordered the Governor of Guangxi to present a longevity plaque with the inscription 'Only the benevolent enjoy longevity' to the centenarian Deng Chengcai of Pinglin Village. The original plaque is treasured in the Bama Museum.
The fourth stop: Bama County Town. Of course, to experience the charm of the town of longevity. The county town is not big, and there are not many people. Mountains are visible upon looking up. In January, the shops are brightly lit, and people seem to go to bed very late. Early in the morning, I went alone to the county cultural square. It had just rained, the air was fresh, and the large 'Longevity' sculpture in the center of the square immediately reminded me that this is the hometown of longevity.
The fifth stop: The town of longevity, Baipantun. From afar, I saw two dazzling red characters on the opposite mountain, one is 'Longevity' and the other is 'Fortune', as the saying goes, 'Longevity is within fortune'. The weather was not friendly, and just as I stepped off the tourist bus, a heavy rain came. The rain did not dampen my enthusiasm, and I was determined to enjoy myself despite the rain.
I crossed the bridge over the Panyang River and came to the village. In the past, the Yao people lived in the mountains. In recent years, the government has funded and combined self-help housing construction, and every household has built a house and lives a prosperous life. Wherever there is a national flag flying above a house, it indicates that there is a centenarian living there. I counted from one side of the village to the other and saw 6 national flags. Living to over a hundred years old is something most people can only hope for but never achieve!
The charm of the flower sea by the river is beautiful and very eye-catching. For someone like me who loves flowers, I hope to enjoy these wonderful moments more!
