One of the most iconic temples of Japan
I've got a story to share about my recent trip to Japan, more specifically, a little gem called Byodoin Temple in Uji.
So, after a quick train ride from Kyoto, my sister and I found ourselves in Uji. Our stomachs were grumbling, so we refueled with a scrumptious lunch before diving into the temple experience.
Byodoin Temple, folks, is a bona fide icon of Japan. The architecture was mind-blowing, with intricate details that seemed to whisper tales of centuries past. We explored the stunning Phoenix Hall, which stood tall and proud amidst a picturesque pond. The tranquil atmosphere made it a perfect spot to reflect and find some inner peace.
Visiting Byodoin Temple was one of the highlights of our Japanese escapade. It's a place that not only showcases Japan's rich history but also nourishes the soul. We even bought Omikuji to commemorate our visit to this place!

Kyoto: Home to beautiful nature scenery🇯🇵
#japantrip
In Kyoto, I was swept away by the timeless beauty etched into every corner. The air hummed with reverence as I wandered the grounds of Byodo-in, tracing the intricate carvings and feeling the weight of centuries of history. Each step unveiled a new layer of Japan's rich cultural tapestry, from the serene gardens to the majestic halls adorned with centuries-old artifacts. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the temple, I felt a profound sense of peace and wonder—a moment frozen in time amidst Kyoto's timeless allure.

If you plan to visit this temple, please remember to keep a 100yen with you as this temple is actually at one side of the 100yen coin! We missed this out paying the coin to the shop we visited previously 🥲
This temple has been in this area for 1 millennium (1000) years ago, shockingly the structure and the look was upkeep as new as it could be!
Psst! Need to pre-book ticket before entering this place!

Most of Uji's attractions are within walking distance. Except for taking a bus 🚍 from the JR station to Mimurotoji Temple, all other spots can be reached on foot, which is very convenient ☺️. When tired, you can taste traditional Japanese sweets and matcha tea 🍵 at the nearby old shops.
It was a bit rainy 🌧️ on the day of my visit to Uji, but the misty weather matched the atmosphere of Uji perfectly. Plus, there were not many tourists that day, so while enjoying the spectacular views of the Uji River and Asagiri Bridge in Uji Park, I particularly felt the tranquil and far-reaching spirit of this ancient capital 😌.

Byodoin
Uji is a small place near Kyoto, but it has 2 World Heritage Sites, and Byodoin is the most famous. The best time to visit Byodoin is in the morning, when the sunlight is just right on the Phoenix Hall, which can be said to be amazingly beautiful.

It's the season when wisteria blooms again, the purple sea of flowers makes people linger and forget to leave.
Wisteria blooms in spring, from mid-April to mid-May. Wisteria flowers bloom abundantly. The clusters of flowers hang between the green vine tendrils, forming a flower corridor on the courtyard wall or climbing on a pergola, playing a role in greening, beautifying, increasing oxygen and absorbing dust.
Wisteria is a noble symbol because of its flourishing and gorgeous posture.
Wisteria hangs on cloud trees, its flowers suitable for spring; dense leaves conceal singing birds, fragrant breeze lingers with beautiful people.
Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai also left beautiful poems for wisteria.
People who like flower and tree bonsai are people with taste. In this life, they must come to Japan's Byodo-in Phoenix Hall to see the wisteria once.
Not just matcha! Experience the blooming early summer in Uji.
When it comes to Uji in Kyoto, people first think of matcha. Although it is known as the world-famous hometown of matcha, in fact, Uji's charm is not only matcha.
⭕The Byodo-in Temple, built in the 11th century, was named a "World Cultural Heritage" for its well-preserved architecture, paintings, crafts, and sculpture art. The most important building is the Phoenix Hall, which enshrines the Amitabha Buddha and 52 bodhisattva statues in the clouds. The design on the back of the 10 yen coin is the Phoenix Hall, while the design on the back of the 10,000 yen note is the golden bronze phoenix statue set at the north and south ends of the central hall roof. In addition, there is a museum called the "Ho-o-do Museum" that specializes in exhibiting cultural relics of the Byodo-in Temple.
⭕Every year in mid-to-late April, the wisteria flowers in the grounds of Byodoin Temple bloom. In the gentle morning breeze, the light and shadow sway, exuding a romantic early summer atmosphere.
⭕Coming out of Byodoin Temple, continue along the Uji River to reach Uji Shrine and Uji Shrine. These two shrines have cute 🐰 figures everywhere. It is said that when the prince Tadamitsu Wakairatsuko (うじのわきいらつこ), who was one of the gods, moved to Uji, he unfortunately got lost, but fortunately met a white rabbit who showed him the way. This white rabbit was regarded as a messenger sent by the gods to guide people towards the right path. It is worth mentioning that Uji Shrine is the oldest surviving shrine in Japan.
⭕Continue forward from the shrine and you will arrive at Fudesan (Daijisan). ⛰️Not very high, with an altitude of only 131 meters, it is very suitable for hiking. The surrounding environment is lush with vegetation, and from the observation deck you can overlook the entire city of Uji.
🚞Transportation:
Departing from Osaka: Take the Keihan Uji Line and get off at Uji Station.
Depart from Kyoto: Take the JR Nara Line and get off at Uji Station.
【Kyoto · Snowy Byodoin Temple · 2023】
Take advantage of the snow in Kyoto and come see the snow-covered Byodoin Temple, with its two golden phoenixes perched on the eaves. Against the white snow, the gold shines even brighter, sparkling and radiant. Looking at these golden phoenixes truly makes one feel incredibly happy.

The tickets are sold for a certain visitation time that lasts for half an hour as they control the amount of people that going in. The place is not difficult to find when you come out of Uji station (either JR Nara line or Keihan line) to make your way to Byodoin Temple. There are clear signs pointing the way. In Uji, I also stamped a world heritage site, a very famous equality court, tickets for 600 yen a person, which can be visited around a circle, is simply a pure land of bliss. Speaking of the Equality House, it was a temple built in the heyday of Fujiwara in 1052. It was said that it was originally for the revival of Buddhism. The whole building was so beautiful, and the photo took a reflection on the reflection! And it's still the pattern on the back of the Japanese coin!
The Equality House is one of the most popular star attractions in the Uji area and even in the Kansai region.
The red building with a peaceful reflection on the pond has made almost everyone who has been to Japan a household name. If you don't believe it, open the back of the million-dollar banknote, and the golden phoenix on the roof of the Phoenix Hall of the Equal Court is painted on it. If the face value of 10,000 yuan is too large, then the back of the 10 yuan coin is engraved with the Phoenix Hall in the same courtyard.
Through the red door, you will come to the lush courtyard, like the door of a mortal and fairy land. From the life of the city, you will come to the scene of the meditation Buddha and the pure land.
Follow the trail all the way to the front of the most famous Phoenix Hall in the Equality Court. This red building, built on the island of Chihshang, is in harmony with the reflections in the tranquil pool, like a palace floating in the fabulous treasure pool. Even if the sky becomes gray and gray due to the rain, it can't conceal its grandeur.
In fact, the area of the Equal House is not large. All the buildings are actually built around the A-shaped pool. It takes only half an hour to circle. The sky, which was just overcast, was actually clear, and the blue color was expected. The red walls and green maples of the temple were also very beautiful due to the sunlight.
The Equality House was listed as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, but most of the buildings were recreated on the original site. The famous Phoenix Hall on the roof of the bird appears on Japanese coins.
##
Equality is a temple garden in the Heian period, built along the Uji River and listed as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. The wisteria flower in the
monastery has been 280 years old, and the rattan shed is located next to Guanyintang, adding a romantic atmosphere to the solemn temple. The building printed on the 10 yuan coin of
yen is the Phoenix Hall in the Equal House. When you enter the Phoenix Hall, you must receive the ticket in advance, then queue up and go in for 40 minutes.

The wisteria flower in the full house is fascinating,

Uji is a good place to get close to the glory of the Heian era. The Court of Equality is the villa of Fujiwara who was in the world when the Book of Purple Book was in the age. In the story of Genji, Ziji has a large description of architecture and courtyard. It is the inspiration of her writing. source. When I first saw this millennium hall, the wisteria on the flower stand at the door was blooming at the beginning. It just took out a new piece of it, like a girl's face tender and tender. I am looking forward to seeing her when the purple flower branches are swaying.
Along the walkway, you can see the A-shaped pool. The Phoenix Hall stands in the middle of the A-shaped pool. The vermilion red sets off its grandeur and solemnity, and the drizzle will hit the green wave in the A-shaped pool. A circle of laps. Phoenix Hall, one of the most important buildings in Japan, I am so honored to see her. The pattern after the 10 yuan coin is her, and the phoenix after 10,000 banknotes is also her. What I saw was a building built in the Heian era, and it was a prosperous Tang Dynasty. From the dream, Tang Yuns legacy has crossed the millennium and came to me.
The Equality House was originally a villa of the Fujiwara family. It was founded in 1052 and later converted into a temple. The Phoenix Hall in the Azi Pond is based on the bliss pure land palace depicted by the Buddhist scriptures. Under the blue sky, the red buildings are very eye-catching, with two golden bronze statues on the top.
Visit Phoenix Hall to purchase additional tickets and queue up for admission. The treasures such as the Sanctuary, the Phoenix, and the Bodhisattva in the cloud are some of them displayed in the Fengxiang Pavilion. Have time to have a cup of matcha in the attached tea room for some dessert. There are 200 maple trees in the territory of
, which used to come to this place during the cherry blossom season. It is beautiful and beautiful to see the Phoenix Hall in the background of red leaves.

JR Uji Station or Keihan Tram Uji Station 10-minute walk
The World Heritage of the Equality House is not to be underestimated in the minds of the Japanese. The Phoenix Hall in the hospital is well known as a pattern on a 10-yen coin. Founded in 1052, the Institute of Equality has a history of 966 years, and the ancient temple of the millennium is deserved. It is said that this was once the villa of the protagonist of the source of the Genji story, the source of the source, and was later inherited by the head of Guan Baiteng, who was renamed the Equal House in 1052. The architectural form of the Equality House is the ultimate embodiment of the world of bliss, and the courtyard is a pure earth-style borrowed garden. Its specifications have become the reference indicators for later Japanese gardens. The area of
Equality is not too small. It takes a circle around the center of the A-shaped pool. It takes about 20 minutes to half an hour to look around. Among them, the Phoenix Hall is the pure land of the Japanese. Looking from the front, you can see a statue of a big Buddha under the curtain. This is the only surviving statue of Amitabha in Japan, which was carved by the Buddha of Ding Dynasty. There are also 52 niche paintings in the temple that support Bodhisattva and nine Amitabha to welcome the picture. Now, 26 of them have been transferred to the Fengxiang Pavilion.
Uji is a place I like very much. Although I have not read the Japanese classic literary source story, the story to it is happening here. Uji is as old as Kyoto but relatively few people, and it is not as modern and prosperous as Osaka.
Uji has been the contact location between Kyoto and Nara since ancient times. The ancients used a ferry to cross the river between Kyoto and Nara. Now we can quickly arrive from Kyoto by taking the JR Nara Line or the Gyeonggi Electric Railway Uji Line.
Equality Court, the early wooden structure of Japan, built in the bank of Uji River in 1052. It belongs to the temple garden of the peaceful spring pool. In 1994, it was worshipped by the Tang Dynasty Buddhist Temple and the inner courtyard. National treasures of cultural relics are included in the World Cultural Heritage List.
Last June, passing the Uji Equality Academy, it was hard to make a 600-yen ticket for the rainy day. I always think that when the cherry blossom or maple leaf season is the most beautiful, I will definitely come back. Regrettably, due to the peak season in the end of March, the National Palace-level building of the Phoenix Hall was not open to the public. The reason why it was called Phoenix Hall was because there was a statue of a phoenix on the roof. This is the pattern behind the Japanese currency coin of 10 yuan, which can be imagined its position in Japan.
The appearance of the Phoenix Hall under the white yoshino cherry and the pink sakura is already beautiful enough. It is just full when it is gone today. The sun is very bright, and it has completely made up for the regret that I cant enter the Phoenix Hall. Maybe next The second maple season is coming again!
Have you heard of Uji? This small town is quieter than Kyoto, which is famous. From Uji Station, walk to the Equal House. Although it is a world cultural heritage, the Equality House is not overcrowded. This garden was built in the middle and late period of the 9th century in Japan. It was carefully constructed by many emperors and ministers and became one of the most beautiful gardens in Kansai. The Equality House in the late autumn season is a great place to enjoy the red leaves. Strolling through the garden, the lake light courtyard, the red leaves are intoxicating, the scenery is unforgettable! It is also a great place for couples to wear kimonos to take pictures.
Little Raiders: JR Nara Line Uji Station is about 10 minutes on foot; Keiji Electric Railway Uji Line Uji Station is about 10 minutes on foot.
