#JanuaryGoodPlaces2025 After visiting the Harukami Takashi exhibition at the Kyocera Museum of Art, we visited the eye-catching giant torii and the bright red Heian Shrine. However, it was very hot at noon. The Heian Shrine covers a large area and there are not many trees, so it was very sunny when walking there. The only good thing is that there are fewer people at noon. "Heian Shrine" is located in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City. It is also a famous cherry blossom viewing spot. It is famous for its huge vermilion torii and the Jidai Festival, one of the three major festivals in Kyoto. The shrine building is quite magnificent, made of vermilion lacquer and green glazed tiles, and is colorful. The garden behind it is even more beautiful and elegant. It was built to commemorate the 1100th anniversary of the founding of Kyoto. There is no entrance fee to Heian Shrine itself, only the gardens behind it require tickets. On the 10th of every month, there will be a Heian flea market in front of the shrine where you can go treasure hunting; in the winter nights, there will also be a limited-time light show, which is well worth seeing! #KyotoExploreStore #HeianJingu

The autumn leaves and summer green maple are also gorgeous, it's just a bit bare in winter 2⃣️ Lake Biwa Canal An old canal project, the red bricks are super suitable for taking Taisho-era kimono photos, especially those with lace edges 3⃣️ Blue Bottle Coffee The Blue Bottle Coffee at the entrance of Nanzen-ji is an old internet sensation, with menus in both Japanese and English. There was not a single cloud in the beautiful blue sky, and the only colors were the vermilion of the shrine, the roof of the shrine and the green of the trees, the white clay walls of the shrine, and the ground covered with white gravel. I was surprised that only four colors, blue x vermilion x green x white, colored this vast Heian Jingu. I really felt the depth of history of the ancient capital, Kyoto. Perhaps because I usually live surrounded by a variety of colors, the vivid vermilion of the shrines in Kyoto is beautiful, and the elegance of traditional Japanese houses, with their colors subdued to the extreme, shows the temperament of Kyoto people who love Kyoto.

The garden was open for visitors, so I paid the entrance fee. The Heian Jingu Shrine grounds are large and sparsely populated, so it is quite comfortable to walk around. If you want to appreciate it carefully, you can stay there for about an hour. There are many places in the garden where you can take a short break, so you don’t have to worry about having sore legs and nowhere to rest.

This shrine has beautiful shrine buildings around a large open space. There were not a huge number of tourists which was a relief after a number of other Kyoto sites. Make sure to go into the garden (separate entry off to one side towards the back). It is a wonderful large Japanese garden where you can spend a half-hour or hour unwinding. There is a small tea garden in the middle of the garden. Mostly flat easy walking. #GiveThanks
