Both Hokan-ji Temple and Yasaka Pagoda have been destroyed by fire multiple times and subsequently rebuilt. The current pagoda was reconstructed in 1440 by Shogun Yoshinari Ashikaga. Other structures within the temple grounds have not been restored, leaving Yasaka Pagoda as a prominent landmark in the Gion district to this day.
