Kyoto, a drizzling afternoon,
I sit by the window of Hiiragiya,
Watching the rain fall,
Time seems to stand still.
Here,
I soberly realize,
This tranquility belongs only to ancient Japan.
——Kawabata Yasunari
🌸Kyoto, as the ancient capital of Japan, the greatest charm of this city lies in the fact that traditional Japanese culture can be well preserved and passed on here.
Staying in a traditional Japanese inn in Kyoto is undoubtedly the most direct way to understand Japanese traditional culture.
🌸Hiiragiya Inn is a long-standing traditional Japanese inn in Kyoto, one of the famous 'Three Houses' of Kyoto. Mishima Yukio and Kawabata Yasunari have stayed here many times, because by the window of Hiiragiya, there is that tranquility exclusive to ancient Japan.
🌸We booked the annex of Hiiragiya Inn this time. Although the environment and decoration are not as good as the main house, the service of Hiiragiya is always the same.
👍【Recommendation】
🔹Hiiragiya Bekkan is a pure Japanese inn, where you can truly feel the traditional culture of Kyoto.
🔹The hotel is adjacent to Kyoto City Hall, just a 5-minute walk from Kawaramachi city center and Shinkyogoku, with very convenient transportation.
🔹The hotel is located in a quiet alley, with a tranquil environment. In addition to fully feeling the atmosphere of the ancient capital, the nostalgic tranquility of Japan still exists.
🍃【Hotel Environment】
🔹The hotel is a pure Japanese wooden two-story building, and the exterior retains the atmosphere of this ancient capital.
🔹The garden is not large, but it still inherits the elegance of the Japanese courtyard.
🔹Holly trees can be seen everywhere in the courtyard, which is probably the cultural source of Hiiragiya Inn.
🛌【Hotel Rooms】
🔹The hotel has 12 Japanese tatami rooms, each with different sizes and styles.
🔹The rooms are very traditional Japanese style, simple and elegant.
🔹We were arranged in a room on the second floor with a terrace. The room is not large, but clean and tidy. A one-meter-wide terrace is enough for two people to enjoy tea and scenery in their leisure time.
🔹The rooms do not have bathrooms, but there is a washbasin in the corner of the terrace, which is quite convenient.
🍱【Hotel Meals】
🔹The welcome drink for check-in is Kyoto's special matcha and salted cherry blossom water.
🔹The hotel follows the unique 'one night, two meals' system of Japanese inns, so the room rate includes breakfast and dinner, and the staff will deliver it to the room at the appointed time.
🔹Dinner is Kyoto Kaiseki cuisine. Each dish is carefully cooked with fresh seasonal ingredients and served with Kiyomizu-yaki tableware. Its color and shape complement the dishes full of seasonal flavors.
🔹Breakfast is also very rich, each dish is not large in portion, but very satisfying after eating.
🔹The hotel also has special meals for children, with different types and portions from adults, but children love them.
🎀【Hotel Facilities】
🔹The rooms do not have bathrooms, and each room needs to bathe in the designated bathroom at different appointment times, where you can experience the traditional Japanese bath.
🔹The hotel arranged a family bathroom for us, where adults can take a bath with their children.
💗【Hotel Experience】
The spirit of service of traditional Japanese inns should be the essence of Hiiragiya Bekkan:
🔹Upon check-in, the hotel arranged a female manager to take care of the guests' meals and accommodation. The manager of our room is a kind old lady, who provides very thoughtful service and takes extra care of the two children.
🔹The stairs of traditional buildings are relatively narrow and steep, and we have a lot of luggage, but the staff will still carefully wipe the luggage and deliver it to our room on the second floor, which is really considerate.
🔹When checking out, the manager and the service staff stood at the door, smiling and watching us leave, until we disappeared from their sight.
