#summervacay Phew, it was way too hot this afternoon, so I ducked into the Prado Museum! 🏛️ Grabbed my ticket easily on Trip.com, but wow, it was absolutely packed inside! The collection is seriously incredible and so rich with masterpieces. I got lucky though – I actually managed to snap a few photos before someone told me no pictures were allowed! So I pieced together what I could, but sadly, I couldn't capture many of the works I loved on the second floor. 😩 It got me thinking... I've visited so many museums across Europe – the Louvre, the Vatican Museums, even the Picasso Museum (which I just visited!) – and you can photograph freely there. As long as you don't use a flash, it really shouldn't harm the artwork, right? So, why the strict "no photos" rule at the Prado? The paella looked very tempting, but was served with minimum two pax, so I turned to the seafood spaghetti, which was one of the highlights on the menu, but it turned out to be as bland as it could get (as shown in the picture). I was almost wondering if the kitchen missed a step or two, but seasoning aside, the seafood was subpar too. Another item commonly recommended by the reviews was oxtail. What I was served tasted fine, but at 9.15€ it’s less than a thin bite, seriously. The rest was gravy on mashed potatoes. And throughout my visit, the waiter was very cold as opposed to how most reviews applauded. Not sure if it’s because I’m single diner who don’t order drinks or the waiter was just having a bad day. Anyway, bad service was just secondary, I wouldn’t mind it at all if the food was up to standard. But sadly, no. That said, this place does offer excellent lunch menu on weekdays (I went on weekends): appetizer+mains+dessert=14.95€. For those who still wanna give this popular place a try, such lunch deals won’t hurt.

When I think of Spain, I think of tapas, and I'm introducing Latazo, a local restaurant with a good price-to-performance ratio that I ate in Madrid and a popular tapas restaurant among Madrid locals! Latazo is located on the 2nd floor of the Anton Martin Market. Unlike the San Miguel Market, which is popular with tourists, the Anton Martin Market is a market frequented by many Spanish people, so it's relatively quiet. Since I can't drink, I ordered a non-alcoholic beer, Torrezno, a Spanish fried pork patty, and boiled potatoes that the owner recommended. I really like pork dishes, so I've tried various pork dishes, but Latazo's toreezno was so delicious that I clapped my hands while eating it. The outside was crispy and the inside was bursting with pork patty,,, the texture was amazing. There was almost no meaty smell and it felt like eating cotton candy. And I liked the dishes where you can taste various flavors by spreading boiled potatoes with various sauces. I'm introducing Alex Cordobés Velázquez, the hottest cheesecake shop in Spain these days. Alex Cordobés Cheesecake is not yet famous among Korean tourists, but it's a place where Spanish locals line up. I visited at 7pm last night, and it was 7:40pm when I paid and left! I waited in line for over 30 minutes and was finally able to buy it, and only the original and lemon flavors were left for the small cheesecakes. The original cheesecake, the smallest size, costs 14 euros per piece, but it's a good size for 2-3 people to share because it's a large portion. Since there's no place to sit and eat at Alex Cordobés Velázquez, I went back to the hotel and tried it. It was a cheesecake that melted in my mouth and had a round rather than chewy texture. I eat a lot of cheesecakes and this was the best cheesecake I've ever had! I highly recommend Alex Cordobes!

#JanuaryGoodPlaces2025 Roast chicken with cider is a traditional Spanish delicacy. In Madrid, there is an authentic tavern called "Casa Mingo", which is also a natural fruit wine brewery. It is simple and delicious. Eating meat and drinking wine with big mouthfuls is the best portrayal of Casa Mingo. The restaurant and tavern is not far from Prince Pierre Station, about ten minutes' walk away. As soon as you enter the restaurant, you will be attracted by the wall of cider, so spectacular! There is also a whole oven of freshly roasted chicken, which is so delicious that it makes you salivate. I immediately ordered a roast chicken, ham and cider. The roasted chicken is tender and juicy, with a full aroma of fat, which makes people eat it one bite after another unconsciously. Paired with sparkling cider, it has a slightly tipsy, slightly sweet and sour taste. I was in Madrid for work for two days, then decided to extend my trip over the weekend. There's so much to do in this city, and the surrounding areas are equally worth exploring. After finishing work on Friday, we checked out the local markets and caught a lively performance by street artists near the Opera Station. On Saturday, we took a day trip to Savigo and Toledo—both cities are incredibly scenic and rich in history. On Sunday, we visited Plaza Mayor and also attended a flamenco show, which is definitely a must-do while in Madrid.
