Historical Site - Koboyama Kofun (Cherry Blossom Viewing)
Koboyama Kofun is an ancient burial site located in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture. It is the largest keyhole-shaped burial mound in the Shinshu region, believed to have been constructed during the mid-Kofun period (around the 4th century AD). With its long history, it has been designated as a National Historic Site of Japan.
The burial mound is approximately 100 meters in length, with a clearly defined keyhole shape. Situated on a small hill, the top offers stunning views of Matsumoto City and the Northern Alps mountain range. Due to its well-preserved condition and the discovery of various ancient artifacts (such as magatama beads, mirrors, and iron swords), Koboyama Kofun holds significant value for studying the ancient history of Shinshu.
The area around the mound features walking trails and simple informational signs, making it a popular spot for locals to stroll and hike. In spring, the hill is adorned with cherry blossoms, attracting visitors for flower viewing and picnics in a relaxed atmosphere.
