Discover Serenity:Journey to the Big Buddha
#winhkflight
Yearning for the serene vistas and tranquil ambiance of the Hong Kong Big Buddha.
Every visit to the Big Buddha is a journey of rediscovery, a chance to reconnect with myself and the world around me. From the moment I ascend those steps and catch the first glimpse of the magnificent statue, I am captivated all over again.
With each visit, I find myself drawn deeper into its embrace, finding solace in its silent wisdom and timeless grace.
I would like to go to re-experience it again at HK Big Buddha.

Location: Tiger Roar Rick River
Difficulty: 5 stars
Duration: 4-5 hours
* Recommendations:
- NOT for newbies
- Gloves and plenty of water required
- Dangerous to visit there during rainy seasons

Tiger’s Head Hike
We decided to do the Tiger’s Head Hike on the 24th of January, starting from Tung Chung MTR Station, and ending at Discovery Bay North Plaza.
From the MTR Station, we walked through Citygate, and continued past the Caribbean Coast Housing Estate, until we arrived at the PetroChina Petrol Station. From here, look for a path that continues past the Petrol Station, and bring you along the side of the MTR tracks.
Continue walking along this path until you arrive at a pedestrian underpass. Pass under the highway, and continue walking straight onto a road. You are now on the Olympic Trail.
On the Olympic Trail, you will pass through the villages of Pak Mong, Ngau Kwu Long and Tai Ho San Tsuen, until you arrive at a peak with multiple intersections. On the path which goes towards Mui Wo, you will take a left turn. You are now on the path towards Tiger’s Head.
On this path, you will pass by Wong Chuk Long Shan, Standing Rock and Wo Sheung Tung, before arriving at the peak known as Tiger’s Head (Lo Fu Tau).
Just below the peak, you will have a few paths to choose from; they could bring you to Discovery Bay North or South Plaza. We opted for the path which leads towards the North Plaza, as we were craving a slice of Paisano’s Pizza!
Just a warning that the descent may be more difficult than the ascent due to the steepness of the dirt slope, which makes it more difficult to grip onto. There were a few slips by us, but nothing serious! We managed to stay on our feet and make it down safely!
Here are the statistics of our hike:
• Moving Time: 3 hours minutes
• Average Pace: 14 minutes per kilometer
• Elapsed Time: 3 hours 10 minutes
• Elevation Gain: 608 meters
• Maximum Elevation: 457 meters
I hope you can use them to effectively plan out your hike.

Lantau is the paradise you’ve been looking for!
Whether you want to hike to a sunset viewpoint or take a glass-bottomed gondola to the tallest seated Buddha in Hong Kong before going back down to a restaurant by the sea, Lantau has something for you.
How to get there. The easiest way to get to Lantau Island from Central is via ferry. Hop on the ferry from Central Pier 6 to Mui Wo, located at eastern Lantau. The ordinary ferry takes 60 minutes whilst the fast ferry takes 40 minutes.

Lantau Island, the largest of Hong Kong's islands, lies at the mouth of the Pearl River. Its mountainous interior includes 934m-high Lantau Peak, known for its sunrises, and the area can be traversed by hikers on the 70km Lantau Trail from Mui Wo (Silver Mine Bay). Po Lin Monastery is the site of the bronze Tian Tan Buddha, a 34m-tall statue on a hilltop reached by a long stairway.
Enjoy a 25-minute cable car ride and pass by Tung Chung Bay, Lantau Island, Ngong Ping Plateau, and more!

Ngong Ping 360

The easy way to get into Lantau Island is through Ngong Ping Cable Car, which connects from Tung Chung to Ngong Ping on Lantau Island.
It takes around 25 minutes to ride 5.7km in length. Let's experience the thrill of a 360-degree view panoramic of the land, rainforest, sea, and the sky.
Don't forget to catch a glimpse of Tian Tan Buddha before the cable car reaches Ngong Ping. It's the perfect and beautiful view of the Buddha statue in the forest.
There are several exciting places to see during this 25 minutes ride, such as Ngong Ping Village, Hong Kong International Airport, Hong Kong Zhuhai Macau Bridge, and Tung Chung Bay.

Wisdom Path Lantau Island
The Wisdom Path - Infinity symbol on Lantau Island.
Did you know - there are 38 giant wood columns, which measure 8-10 meters tall and 1 meter wide, arranged in a "∞" pattern following the natural terrain of the site to signify infinity.
🇭🇰Beautiful views of Lantau Island
When you reach the top of the Big Buddha at Lantau island, you will be blessed and also rewarded with an amazing view at the top. You get to see a bird’s eye view of Lantau Island. You also can see Po Lin Monastery where you had your vegetarian lunch. I was checking the website and it said the stairs to climb up to Big Buddha are closed for upgrading. When I am in Hong Kong, I will reconfirm with the hotel or check the website before I go up to Lantau Island. If not I only can ride on the cable car and not being able to go to the top.

🇭🇰 Big Buddha
This Big Buddha of Lantau Island is a popular attraction for tourists and a place of worship too. It is a large bronze statue and the Po Lin Monastery is at the bottom of the climb. This climb is a staircase which has 268 steps to complete before reaching the top. I was lucky to have witness a monk who was praying and climbing his way up the stairs. He was kneeling and bowing every few steps. You can do the climb and take a photo with the Big Buddha. If you wish to enter inside the Big Buddha, you will have to pay an entrance fee.

Discovery Bay staycation
Have a good time at Discovery Bay Hotel! Since it is only two days before check-in to book. , all sea view rooms are not available, only mountain view rooms can be selected!
But fortunately, the hotel arranged a mountain view room with a better view for me! At the end of the corridor in the corner room. Originally, I wouldn't have seen the sea and only the mountain view from the shape of my house
I looked at the official website of the hotel and it seems that the mountain view room does not have a bathtub! There is only a normal bathtub so I am very happy! If you like Moomin, you will definitely like this once-themed room!

Temple Hunting on Lantau Island Hong Kong
If you are interested in a bit of temple hunting and off the beaten path type adventures then be sure to go back over to Lantau Island and only a walks worth away from the Buddha are the dedicated temples.
We we’re told that we were not allowed to take pictures inside of the temples because it would be dishonorable however we were definitely surprised with the amount of gold we saw inside the temples not only because of the designs of the figurines of the Buddhas but also because of the amount of the figurines was plentiful.
The history of this island can most definitely be felt here so please be sure to visit.

🏕trip to myterious lokeiwan
⛺️It was an interesting experience to go camping with my friends during winter.
📵You would probably be cut off from the outside world as there is no data/ wifi-connection service covered, which perfectly offered you a chance to spend quality time with family and friends without technology.
🔥The cold was fierce yet the fire kept us warm.
💧🌊The sea sparkle (aka blue tears) really impressed me and made me feel the vast of the ocean and the nature. *You may need to wake at midnight to witness this magic moment*🪄
🌄The sunrise was also incredibly stunning!! Put this place to your bucket list✍🏽✨

一樹洞
Come to the highest natural cave in Hong Kong. I heard that this cave was named because of a small tree that once grew. Now it is full of moss, and the stone walls are slippery and rust-colored. Immediately, I heard the echoes scattered, and I felt like I was back in the era of martial arts movies when I was in the cave. The fog and water made the scenery looming, making it even more mysterious.
Please note that the road conditions are extremely rough, the mountain trails are blurred, and the mobile phone reception is poor. You must be well prepared, equipped with appropriate clothing and beverages, and led by experienced people.

Tong Fuk Beach is beautiful 😍
I have lived here for 17 years and I can honestly say that Tong Fuk Village is the best place to grow up in Hong Kong.
The beach is less than 2 minutes away from the bus stop, and at most 5 minutes away from the back of the village.
Personally, I think it is the best beach on Lantau, and one of the best beaches in Hong Kong 🇭🇰.

Best Desert at Pause Cafe HongKong
Egg Benedict with Pink Hollandaise $140 French Toast $130
During the New Year’s holiday, I came to the cafe in Mui Wo. It was about ten minutes walk from the pier to a small shop. It has outdoor seating and is convenient for friends with pets. In terms of food, it focuses on a series of healthy food + specialty coffee. The ingredients are the main ingredients, I recommend everyone to try their French toast, it is a surprise, it is a super large portion
French Toast
A super large portion of French toast②The outer layer is crispy and the inner layer is soft, but it is slightly dry. Paste on the dough with homemade apple sauce
+mascarpone, together with a few slices of dried apples, the whole is sweet and sour, not greasy
QEgg Benedict with Pink Hollandaise To match the theme of the New Year, it introduced the egg benedict's sourdough with the left beetroot flavor, which was baked slightly hard, but the sourness was unexpectedly prominent. Personally, I don’t really like the combination of beetroot and boiled eggs. Adding the hollandaise to the beetroot, it looks pink, but in fact it is completely eaten without the taste of beetroot~

I like traveling. I had happy memories of all the days I spent in Hong Kong. It's back on my next trip plan.

Wanna escape from the city, come out and see the beauty of nature. If you're nature lovers I would recommend you to visit Lantau Island, the hiking trails are quite difficult for beginners.

Lantau Island is Hong Kong's largest island and is known for its beautiful scenery. Tai O is the oldest fishing village in Hong Kong and one of the most popular tourist spots on Lantau Island.
Visitors can use the plain fishing village as a starting point to explore the waters of Lantau. We used the Tai O small yacht to shuttle through the waterways, to enjoy the shacks up close, and to capture the Chinese white dolphins.
From Ngong Ping Market, you can take the No. 21 bus to Tai O, you can brush Octopus, but we are convenient for sea, land and air, so we bought a pass for cable cars, yachts and buses.
After arriving at Tai O Fishing Village, we will go to the small yacht first. The boarding point of the small yacht is next to the bridge. There will be signs to the boarding point along the way. Then take the ticket picked up at the cable car station and board the yacht ticket to board the ship.
The yacht sailed out of the port and we went looking for the Chinese white dolphin. Although it is far away, I would like to record the moment when the sea, land and air are gathering, the bridge running by the car, the ferry on the sea and the plane that is about to land in the air. This scene is very common here, but it is rare for us. The
Chinese white dolphins have been in Hong Kong waters since the 17th century. Their pink appearance is unique and their character is friendly. They are found throughout the year in the western waters of Hong Kong. In Tai O, visitors can take a special boat ride through the river, enjoy the water shacks connected to the households on the journey, explore the simple and tranquil style of Hong Kong's oldest fishing village, and trace the traces of the Chinese white dolphins.
Visit the Tian Tan Buddha at Lantau Island in Hong Kong
Visit the Tian Tan Buddha at Lantau Island in Hong Kong.
The Tian Tan Buddha on Lantau Island is a place I must visit at least once a year! Every time I return, I feel refreshed and invigorated~ and I find it quite efficacious! Superb superb superb
Attractions worth visiting on Lantau Island:
1 Tian Tan Buddha
The Tian Tan Buddha is located at the peak of Ngong Ping and is one of the most famous landmarks on the outlying islands. Its base is modeled after the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, hence the name "Tian Tan Buddha." It is currently the world's second-largest outdoor bronze seated Buddha statue.
Every time I come here, I make sure to climb to the top of the Buddha and look up at its majesty. Absorbing the Buddha's spiritual energy at the peak, honestly, I always feel refreshed!
2 Wisdom Path
The Wisdom Path is less than 900 meters away from the Tian Tan Buddha, and it takes less than 10 minutes to walk there.★ On the way to the Wisdom Path, there are very few people, some vacant small houses, and the greenery is thriving, making it quite suitable for taking some forest-themed photos.
Vegetarian Restaurant
Sorry, but I have to have a big meal at this vegetarian restaurant every time I visit. This place is not the ascetic kind you might imagine. On the contrary, the desserts, fried rice noodles, mountain water tofu pudding, braised dishes, spring rolls... are all super delicious! And the prices are incredibly affordable. A meal for two with a lot of dishes costs just over a hundred Hong Kong dollars! However, remember to bring cash! ⑦ (4) Near the cable car, there is a Ngong Ping Market. There are some local tea gardens, dining halls, and souvenir shops. If you want to buy souvenirs, you can take a look around~
If you arrive early, you can also take a bus directly from Ngong Ping to Tai O~ The bus takes about twenty minutes to get there, and you can experience Hong Kong's Venice! (Check the main page for a guide to Tai O fishing village)
About Transportation!
By MTR:
From Tung Chung MTR Station, take Exit B and walk for 2 minutes to reach the Tung Chung Cable Car Terminal.
By Bus:
For the bus station, you have to walk past the cable car area and go forward to see a bus station, (see the last transportation map) there are signs indicating the destinations. Just look for and queue up. You can use the Octopus card, and it takes about half an hour to reach the entrance of Lantau Island.
0 Due to the popularity of the Ngong Ping 360 cable car, it is recommended that visitors purchase tickets online in advance to avoid queuing and delays at the site. For online ticketing, click on the official Ngong Ping 360 cable car website.
Tips:
When coming here, be sure to bring some Hong Kong dollars! To offer incense to the Buddha, you need cash, which you can buy at the store at the entrance of Po Lin Monastery. The prices are very reasonable; we bought three sets of incense for 18 dollars~
Tian Tan Buddha - Lantau Island, Hong Kong, China
Hong Kong's name originates from Hong Kong Island, but in fact, Hong Kong Island is not the largest island in Hong Kong. Located to the west of Hong Kong Island, Lantau Island is the largest island in Hong Kong, with an area of 147 square kilometers, slightly larger than two Hong Kong Islands.
Lantau Island is also the largest outlying island in Hong Kong. Most of the island is part of the Islands District, with only a small part in the northeast belonging to the Tsuen Wan District. In the past, due to Lantau's distance from the bustling areas of Hong Kong and inconvenient transportation, much of the land was undeveloped and sparsely populated. However, with the subsequent completion of the Hong Kong International Airport, Tsing Ma Bridge, and the MTR lines, the 2.2-kilometer-long Tsing Ma Bridge connects Lantau Island with Tsuen Wan, Tung Chung, and other places, making transportation to Lantau Island increasingly convenient.
The Tian Tan Buddha, a bronze statue in Hong Kong, is welded from 202 pieces of bronze, weighing 250 tons, with the Buddha statue itself standing 23 meters tall. Including the lotus throne and the base, the total height is about 34 meters, which posed significant challenges in its creation. The Tian Tan Buddha was designed according to the thirty-two marks of the Tathagata as described in the Buddhist scriptures. Its facial features are modeled after the Lushena Buddha at the Longmen Grottoes, while the patterns on its robe and headgear are based on the Sakyamuni Buddha statue in Cave 360 of the Mogao Caves. Thus, the Tian Tan Buddha embodies the characteristics of Buddhist statues from the prosperous Sui and Tang dynasties in China. On October 13, 1989, the bronze panels of the Great Buddha were installed, and a solemn ceremony was held on that day. The production, which took 3 years, was a collective effort involving devotees, Buddhist community members, artists, and technical engineers. On December 29, 1993 (the 17th day of the 11th lunar month), which is the birthday of Amitabha Buddha in Buddhism, the Po Lin Monastery chose this day to hold a grand and solemn consecration ceremony for the Tian Tan Buddha. From the beginning, the construction of the Tian Tan Buddha took 12 years and was completed in three phases. Its design was based on the foundation of the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, hence the name 'Tian Tan Buddha'.
Most people travel to Tung Chung Station in Hong Kong and then take the 360-degree crystal cable car up, which takes about 20 minutes. The 'crystal cabin' has a transparent floor and walls, which is quite thrilling, but can be a bit distressing for those with a fear of heights! From the cable car, you can enjoy an unobstructed view of the green mountains, blue waters, blue sky, and white clouds, as well as see the Hong Kong Airport and the serpentine Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Leaving behind the bustling city, you can feast your eyes on the mountain ranges of Lantau Island, the Hong Kong International Airport, and the spectacular Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, which appears between the mountains and the sea like a mirage.
The design of the Tian Tan Buddha is based on the records of the thirty-two marks of the Tathagata, reflecting the characteristics of Buddhist statues from the Sui and Tang dynasties. The Buddha statue is cast from over 250 tons of bronze, with the face incorporating four jin (approximately 2 kilograms) of gold, giving it a dignified and serene appearance, indicative of the Buddha's complete virtues and wisdom. The Buddha's right hand is in the 'Fearless Mudra', showing the Buddha's great compassion in relieving the suffering of sentient beings; the left hand is extended downward with the palm facing outward and the fingertips slightly pointing down, known as the 'Wish-Granting Mudra', symbolizing the Buddha's wish to bestow happiness and kindness on sentient beings; the Dharma wheel that appears in the center of both palms represents the eternal existence and dissemination of the Buddha's teachings in all directions. The Buddha statue, standing 34 meters high, is seated on a three-tiered altar; facing from south to north, the seated posture is said to be the same as that adopted by Sakyamuni Buddha when he entered meditation under the Bodhi tree to comprehend the true path.
Everyone should definitely visit if they have the chance, as the Tian Tan Buddha is currently one of the five largest Buddhas in China!
Hong Kong · Tai O | A small fishing village that hasn't changed for 100 years
📍Detailed address: Tai O is quite remote, located by the sea at the foot of Lantau Island. It is usually arranged as a day trip: Lantau Island cable car + Lantau summit + Tai O.
🚉Transportation strategy: There is a bus station at the top of Lantau Island that goes to Tai O, with a bus every 20 minutes and a 25-minute ride. After reaching the Tai O bus terminal, you can see the stilt houses of the fishing village, which are within walking distance. For the return trip, take the bus from the same bus terminal you arrived at. There are two routes: one is back to the top of Lantau Island, a 25-minute ride. The other is directly to Tsuen Wan MTR station, a 50-minute to 1-hour ride.
🗓Itinerary: Fishing village → Pier → Iron bridge → Main street
⏳Play time: 2~3 hours (including meal time)
Pier: The first thing you see is the pier, where you can take a walk and enjoy the open seaside scenery, with speedboats shuttling on the water from time to time. Speedboat rides cost 150 yuan, and you can visit attractions such as the Guan Yu Temple on the outskirts of the fishing village.
Fishing village: The outskirts of the fishing village are quite clean, dilapidated but not dirty and messy, with exterior walls painted in colors, which is quite interesting. There is a street made up of small shops and stalls, selling fish balls, soup noodles, and drinks. The stalls sell drinks, dried fish, dried fruit, etc. The drinks are homemade, with hawthorn juice and dried tangerine peel juice at 15 yuan per bottle, and fish ball soup noodles range from 25 to 35 yuan.
Stilt houses: Following the stalls inward, you can see the sky-blue iron bridge at the end, with stilt houses on both sides of the bridge. It's hard to imagine this is also Hong Kong, looking impoverished, but this is the real scene of the fishing village's waterside life.
Iron bridge: The iron bridge is the dividing line, with the outskirts on one side and Tai O's central main street on the other. The bridge itself is also very distinctive, where you can stand and watch speedboats depart and return under the bridge. You can also see locals transporting goods on small carts.
👍Most recommended: Main street
After crossing the blue iron bridge, you enter the core area of Tai O. The view is completely different from before, no longer the style of stalls and small shops, but neat restaurants, pubs, and storefronts in a T-shaped cross street, very Hong Kong! The taste of the dishes is very authentic Hong Kong flavor. Drinking beer, eating seafood, vegetables, and rice... This is the most fitting lifestyle of a Hong Kong fishing village.
💰Average meal cost: Around 100 yuan.
❤Recommended reason:
Tai O is a relatively unpopular place on the Hong Kong travel route. It is a township-level fishing village, with everything from large restaurants to small stalls operated by locals. In the past, Stephen Chow had a very good movie 'The Dragon's Heir' set against this background, where the plot involves a developer eyeing Tai O, and Little Dragon saves Tai O's land by winning a snooker game against the developer's hired sharpshooter, Wade. Just as exciting as the story in the movie, this place is still not commercialized, lacking the hustle and bustle and fashion of the city center, yet it allows people to see another side of Hong Kong... With a trip to Tai O, a complete understanding journey of Hong Kong is perfect!
