[2025 Singapore Hotels] Travel Guide for Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree (Updated Aug)

If you are looking to stay at a towering skyscraper with malls attached to it and tons of facilities as far as the eye can see, then this review is not for you. If however, you are interested to know what is a hotel doing in the middle of the Mandai reserve, an area many Singaporean sons are familiar with during their National Service rite of passage, then read on to discover more of my experience at Banyan Tree Mandai Rainforest Resort. From the moment I arrived, it was clear that Banyan Tree’s ethos and commitment to sustainability is not just a philosophy but a living, breathing part of every detail—from the eco-conscious design of the lodgings to the thoughtful practices that honour the surrounding rainforest. One such thoughtful practice is the dimming of lights in the lobby and surrounding areas when dusk falls so as to minimise light pollution. We are in the middle of a nature reserve after all and the wildlife surrounding us needs to sleep too! At the end of the day, note that we are no longer at Orchard Road with its bright lights and endless traffic. Another thoughtful (though some say debatable) practice is the control of room temperature such that it can at best attain a minimum of 24oC. During my stay, I would say that it was comfortable enough for me to sleep through the entire night. However, I do understand that some guests may have a lower tolerance of heat, especially when faced with Singapore’s tropical climate in the warmer months of June to September. Perhaps the management can consider adjusting the minimum room temperature lower during those ‘summer months’ to allow guests to cope with the warmer temperatures? Personally, I enjoyed having the overhead fan in the room, not so much as to cool the room (although it most certainly could), as I like a constant circulation of air in the room as much as possible. Most hotels that I’ve been to do not have an overhead fan in the room and so, I felt that it was a nice touch to have one at the resort. Another feature that I appreciated was the provision of a water purifier in every room. Singapore’s tap water, while known to be safe and clean to drink directly, may cause uneasiness to some if they had to. The machine not only helps to further purify the water but it also eliminates the need for plastic and glass-bottled water. To me, that’s more power to the environment! As stewards of the environment, if we do not take care of the place we call home, who’s going to do it for us? The dedication to preserving the environment while offering luxury is truly inspiring. There is no need to live like Tarzan & Jane in order to co-exist with nature. One of the highlights of my stay was the serene rooftop infinity pool, where I found myself enveloped between the lush canopy and the open sky. It was a magical space to unwind, offering a sense of tranquility that seamlessly blended indulgence with the raw beauty of the rainforest.

I highly recommend dining at Planter’s Shed for their incredible variety of food， served in a free-flow style. They provide large trays of lobsters， scallops， prawns， and mussels， lightly steamed to maintain the seafood's natural taste and texture. The lobsters are conveniently pre-cut into halves， letting a fork easily remove the flesh from the shell. The cold smoked salmon is uniquely cured with sesame seeds， cilantro， and herbs， pairing perfectly with a celery and green apple salad. The selection of hot foods is extensive， featuring grilled salmon， beef goulash， lamb steaks， and spicy mala chicken skewers. Vegetarians can enjoy a buffet of mock chicken and fish， along with fried popiah snacks. Kids are especially delighted by the chocolate fondant tower， ice cream， cakes， and jellies， offering plenty of entertainment. We appreciated the considerate staff at Ranger’s Club， who tailored the music in the room after noticing my daughter’s blue Frozen dress. My child also loved participating in a free photo frame workshop organized by the Club， allowing them to express their creativity. Our family retreat room offered smart controls for day and night settings to adjust between ceiling fan and AC， as well as lighting levels， all of which were user-friendly. The furnishing showed great consideration for families， with rounded edges， double bathroom vanities， separate toilet and rain shower areas， and a king-sized mattress for the bunk beds. We would like to extend our thanks to Ms. Lee， the duty manager， for ensuring our stay was exceptional; her thoughtful gesture was greatly appreciated.

Me and my family stayed here over an weekend. It's one of a kind with nature and near Zoo in Singapore. Overall the hotel is still very brand new and was very nice of them at around every afternoon at the lobby they will have free drinking water and cookies for you to enjoy. But there's a little down side is that not much food or almost none option, once those parks closed so you will need to order room service. Is still a great experience with my family.

At Mandarin Oriental Singapore, the bay view room I booked offers a direct view of the Merlion and the National Day fireworks. Going out at night is very chill, the service is excellent, and the room is new. Very satisfied. For the next few days, I stayed at the treehouse at Mandai Resort, Banyan Tree Rainforest, which is very convenient for visiting the zoo. The treehouse is definitely worth staying in, with a breakfast exclusive to treehouse guests and a private pool, making for a great experience.

#summervacay I recently had the chance to check out the Banyan Tree Mandai Rainforest Singapore, which just opened this April. My takeaway? If you're a rainforest enthusiast, you might absolutely love it, but don't go in with sky-high expectations for the service. Highlights: Stunning Rainforest Environment: I initially wanted to book a treehouse, but it was fully booked, so I opted for a scenic twin room. The front desk kindly upgraded me to a rainforest twin room. Stepping out of the door, I was right in the heart of the tropical rainforest, with my room nestled within the tree canopy. The bathroom even had a viewing window, and I actually saw squirrels scampering by while showering! The main pool is on the rooftop, but it seemed to close quite early in the evening, around 7 PM when the lights went out. Direct Access to Wildlife Parks: It's a short walk to the Night Safari, and the hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to the newly opened Rainforest Wild. This makes it perfect for families! Breakfast: The breakfast was decent, but it didn't quite live up to the culinary experience of the Song Fa Bak Kut Teh next door. Mainday Rainforest Singapore

Day 1: 9am Start the morning with a walk at The Rainforest Wild Asia. It features elevated walkways, challenging treks, cave exploration, and close encounters with diverse Asian animals like tigers and langurs. We love watching the tigers, and the cool walk through the cave. 12pm You could have lunch inside The Cavern in Rainforest Wild. Decent food but it's more for the experience than the food. Alternatively, walk along Dining Alley for options like Watami Dining (opening soon!), Sushiro and Song Fa Ba Kut Teh. 2pm Get to the resort and request for an early check-in. If the room isn't ready, leave your luggage with the concierge and go for a swim in the infinity pool at level 5. The sun was hot but that also means warmer waters and little crowd, we enjoyed ourselves in the pool. We stayed in the West Wing but I've a feeling the East Wing may be better, offering unblocked views of sunrise/ sunset. 3pm Check-in to the room! Lift up all the blinds to the stunning reservoir view and enjoy the room. The Rangers Club is great for children, offering lovely books and a simple space for entertaining the children. 6pm Dinner at the Dining Alley. 7pm Time for a walk at Night Safari. We kept it easy, went for the 20+min of Tram Ride then watched the 830pm show before embarking on the shortest trail and then head back to the hotel. Day 2: 845am We took up the option for Buffet Breakfast in the Wild at the Singapore Zoo. It was a 10min walk made more difficult with my young children. I would have preferred to walk over to the Zoo by ourselves at our own slow pace and wait to regather with the group to enter the zoo together. 1030am Breakfast ends and you can walk around the Singapore Zoo. 12pm We requested a late check-out at 1pm. Head back from the Singapore Zoo and it's time to check out. A newly opened hotel at the Singapore Zoo, currently offering great value for money, with prices around 💰300-500 SGD per night depending on the room type. Options include standard rooms, rainforest rooms, view rooms, and treehouses. Of course, the treehouses are more expensive. The view rooms are beautiful; when you slide open the door, you can hear cheerful bird songs and enjoy the stunning lake and forest scenery, perfect for taking great photos and selfies. The price already includes a buffet breakfast, and there will be a separate introduction about the buffet breakfast later, which is also quite good value. The service is very thoughtful, with lemon water and juice prepared in the lobby, along with small cookies for waiting guests. There is also a hotel map to help explore the hotel. The hotel features a spa, a rooftop garden on the 5th floor, and an infinity pool. The view from the rooftop is truly beautiful, complemented by the stylish design of the treehouses. The hotel’s facilities are very complete, and they thoughtfully provide reusable plastic cups and eco-friendly bags for visitors going to the zoo, convenient for carrying water. There is also a cute pencil with rose seeds on it that you can take home to plant, which is a fun little gift.

#springitinerary Great news—Mandai Boardwalk is now open for free! This 3.3 km trail runs along the outskirts of the Singapore Zoo and River Safari, offering fresh air and scenic views the whole way. The path is mostly flat and easy, making it perfect for everyone. Along the walk, you might even spot some small animals! The boardwalk is thoughtfully designed with accessibility in mind, so grandparents and kids can enjoy it with ease. Opening hours: 7 AM to 7 PM The trail is one-way with two entrances: Entrance A, which is closer to the bus stop, and Entrance B, right at the River Safari gate. We parked at Carpark 200, then walked along a small path to Entrance A, starting our hike there and finishing at Entrance B near the River Safari. The route is well-marked with plenty of boardwalk signs, so just follow them and enjoy a relaxed walk filled with plenty of photo ops. The whole hike takes about 45–50 minutes. Along the way, you’ll find shady spots and gentle breezes that keep things comfortable, so you won’t feel too hot. What kind of beautiful scenery and stories are hidden there that attract countless visitors? Today, follow my footsteps and let's uncover its mysterious veil together. Departing from Chaoyang, Beijing, heading to the dreamlike park The most convenient way to get from Chaoyang, Beijing to Singapore is by plane. You can fly directly from Beijing Capital International Airport or Daxing International Airport to Singapore Changi Airport, with a flight time of about 6.5 to 7.5 hours. After arriving at Changi Airport, there are several ways to get to the River Safari. Taking the MRT is an economical choice: first transfer to the North-South Line (Red Line), then transfer to bus 138 at Ang Mo Kio Station or bus 927 at Choa Chu Kang Station, both of which go directly there. You can also choose to take a taxi, which takes about 30 minutes. Although it costs a bit more, it offers a faster and more comfortable ride. Encounter diverse landscapes and feel the charm of nature The Singapore River Safari is Asia’s first and only river-themed wildlife park. It is like a wonderful natural museum, condensing the world’s eight major freshwater habitats. Upon entering the park, the first thing you see is lush greenery and babbling streams, as if you’ve instantly stepped into a tropical rainforest. In the "World Rivers" exhibit, you can experience the unique ecosystems of different river basins, from China’s Yangtze River to Egypt’s Nile River, from Africa’s Congo River to South America’s Amazon River, and see rare animals like the Yangtze alligator, Nile monitor lizard, and Mekong giant catfish. The Giant Panda Forest is the star attraction of the park, home to the adorable pandas "Kai Kai" and "Jia Jia." Their cute antics—eating bamboo, playing, and sleeping—will melt your heart. The Amazon River zone is definitely a must-visit. Take the "Amazon River Quest" boat ride along the 483-meter-long river. During the 20-minute journey, you can get up close to rare animals like the Brazilian tapir, jaguar, and capybara—exciting and fun.
