If you’re heading to Phnom Penh and you want to see a glimpse of Cambodia’s history you need to check out the national museum. It’s really close to the palace so you can get both done in a morning of an afternoon. It is $10 entry for foreigners, just tell them your home country (I didn’t need my passport but I know some people have been asked for it before, so take it just incase!) After the rain, Phnom Penh was fresh and quiet, with few tourists, allowing me to enjoy the tranquility. 🏰Speaking of Phnom Penh, I must mention the magnificent Royal Palace. My friend and I traveled light, carrying only some change. The ticket was not expensive, but the sense of history was priceless. Every corner of the palace exuded the splendor and majesty of the Cambodian royal family. 🏛️Next, we visited the National Museum of Cambodia. It houses countless precious artifacts, each telling the long history of the country. The ticket was also $10, but I felt it was worth it because it gave me a deeper understanding of Cambodian culture. 🚗During our trip, we also experienced the local transportation - tuk-tuks. Using Move to call a tuk-tuk was convenient and fast, and it only cost 27 yuan to reach the Choeung Ek Killing Fields. This place is a scar in Cambodia's history, but also a history that cannot be forgotten. Listening to the Chinese commentary, I felt as if I had traveled through time and space, feeling the weight of that history. 🍽️Speaking of food, Cambodian cuisine is a must-try. It is cost-effective and authentic, especially the local Amok fish, which is a feast for the taste buds. As for accommodation, I recommend trying local homestays, which are affordable and offer a deeper experience of local life. 📌Travel tips: Remember to bring sunscreen and rain gear, as the weather in Cambodia can change quickly. This museum in Phnom Penh showcases an impressive collection of Khmer art and artifacts. We can get a deep dive into the country’s rich and longstanding culture and history. Getting There - Hired a day tour with local tour guide and this was one of the highlights of the day. I visited the National Museum today, and I was truly impressed by the extensive collection of artifacts and sculptures on display. The diversity of items, especially those from the Angkor period, was fascinating. The $10 USD ticket for foreigners was definitely worth it for the enriching experience. I highly recommend a visit to this museum for anyone interested in Cambodian history and culture. An amazing collection of artifacts from the Khmer empires. Many fine examples of Khmer art dating back to the 6th century, it is a must see for those who enjoy this beautiful artwork. Building is amazing in itself, built in the mid to late 30's, it surrounds an inner courtyard with pools as well as artifacts. There is a nice aircon Cafe outside the main building you can get refreshment from either before or after your visit. Spent 2 hrs in the museum and probably missed a fair bit as there is so much to see. Highly recommend!

In the Spring Festival of 2020, I set foot on Cambodia with anxiety and unease. Cambodia, I never thought this country could be so cleansing to the soul. Its prosperity has faded away, sometimes even shabby, but it is said to be so sunny, simple, and full of hope. Plane landed in Phnom Penh, mainly visiting two major scenic spots: 1. The Royal Palace in Phnom Penh: It is the palace of the King of Cambodia, consisting of a group of buildings with golden roofs and yellow surroundings, with exquisite design and magnificent appearance. The palaces are all pointed, representing prosperity. The main colors of the palace body are yellow and white, with yellow representing Buddhism and white representing Brahmanism. The Royal Palace of Cambodia is indeed magnificent, but there is a world of difference between inside and outside the palace walls. 2. The National Museum of Cambodia adopts the architectural style of Khmer ancient temple with hipped roofs and carved doors, which reminds me of the architecture of the Black Temple in Chiang Rai (they belong to the same school). It integrates Khmer traditional architecture with French colonial style. The museum introduces the history of Cambodia, mainly including the pre-Angkor period, Angkor period, and post-Angkor period. The exquisite carvings of the Angkor period are breathtaking. It also makes me look forward to the trip to Angkor Wat starting tomorrow. Continuing to send to Siem Reap, Angkor Wat is divided into the Great and Small Angkor Wat. Simply put, the Great Angkor Wat is a city, while the Small Angkor Wat is a temple, also known as the Angkor Wat Temple. It is the pattern on the Cambodian national flag and the most exquisite part of Angkor Wat. If we talk about the biggest feeling of going to Angkor, it should be the collision of time and space. Here, you can see the rise and fall of a dynasty, the call of a disappeared city sleeping underground for centuries. Angkor is a city of vicissitudes. At every stage of life, coming here will bring different feelings. On the first day, we visited the so-called small circle, mainly Banteay Srei, the palace and temple, and Ta Prohm... Rather than saying that Angkor is a scenic spot, it is more like a kind of sentiment. Many people say that they must go to Angkor Wat once in their lifetime. As for me, it finally lifted the veil of Khmer and let me touch the distant faith, feeling the tranquility and vicissitudes of the ruins. On the second day, we visited the outer circle, including the Queen's Palace, Beng Mealea, Bakheng Temple (the architecture of Angkor is exquisite, and the structural design is clever, making it easy to take beautiful photos). The last stop was Ta Prohm, the shooting location of "Tomb Raider". Quoting a passage from "In the Mood for Love" to end the trip to Angkor Wat: "If you can't forget it, it means you haven't buried the secret in your heart, so you must go to Angkor Wat. If you want to start a new life, you should bring her to Angkor Wat, sit on the high Angkor Wat together, watch the sunrise and sunset, experience the vicissitudes of life, and express your endless sentiment." In Angkor, there is a natural tranquility and beauty, where every stone tells a story of the past. Being in the city, one's thoughts are endless, feeling their own ignorance and rudeness towards the weighty civilization. However, Angkor remains silent, only smiling and watching the cycle of the world and the rising and setting of the sun and moon. A thousand years is but a moment.

Guided tours can be arranged for individuals or groups at the museum entrance. We went to Phnom Penh by bus from Ho Chi Minh City. There are a lot of tours in HCM to choose going to Cambodia. The bus to Phnom Penh takes about 6 to 7 hours, depending on the bus. You should get to the bus station at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure. The museum promotes awareness, understanding and appreciation of Cambodia's culture and heritage, aiming to educate and inspire its visitors. Crossing over to Cambodia, a city that is very similar to Thailand in every way, second only to Laos, including the weather, religion, written and spoken language, food, arts and culture, and sometimes indistinguishable national costumes. Today, we came to the National Museum of Cambodia. The layout is similar to Thailand because it is divided into pavilions and pavilions, and ancient objects are displayed. Most of the rooms do not have air conditioning. There are not as many items on display as I thought. I heard a local guide say that most of their items were stolen and taken out of the country. The rest were found later. We asked for them back. The guide shook his head. It was very difficult. Here, they accept Thai baht and US dollars, even folded ones. This is a little different from Burma because they strictly prohibit folding or old items.

We have been wanting to visit the National Museum of Cambodia to check their historical and cultural collections however their opening hours didn’t match our itinerary so we only got the chance to be outside and took few photos. :( Unlike any other museums and temples which are open for tourists and visitors for a whole day, this Museum has a bit of a break in between which is around lunch time. CAMBODIA: KINGDOM OF WONDER We actually went for a tri-city(Siem Reap, Cambodia is our favorite and here are some of the reasons why you need to include Cambodia on your bucket list after the quarantine. 1. Food. I mean their supeeeeer yummy food. Khmer dishes didn’t disappoint kasi we did not expect naman in the first place HAHAHA On our way to Cambodia, our judgmental ass was like “Beshy, exotic ata mga food nila dito. Can’t imagine myself eating uod for lunch or tutubi for dinner” We arrived at around 9pm and it was raining pa so we decided to look for food near our chosen accommodation and to our surprise, LIVE COOKING SILA FRIEND as in you can taste the freshest shrimp straight from the aquarium pa and it’s not even a mamahaling restaurant. But if you wanna maximize your Khmer food experience don’t DARE miss the Pub Street. Open siya every night lang. We decided to eat there on our last night in Siem Reap. We tried their Beef Lok Lak, and trust me ang sarap. Im crying!!!! Beef noodle soup is only 2USD (Yup, dollars po yung money nila) and it’s good for two na but we made it for three kasi ang dami ng servings. Sweet and Sour shrimp is only 3USD and it comes with rice na din their squid is 1.75USD each. Ano say ng dampa? Must try dishes: Beef Lok Lak (Taste can be compared to stir-fried beef and black pepper beef combined but mas masarap) and Fish Amok (Basically it’s a curried fish but not too spicy and a bit sweeter. It is usually served in banana leaf) Mostly ng food nila comes with rice na kaya super sulet talaga. 2. Freshest Fruit Shakes. For those na mahilig sa fruits, this is the best place to be. Ang SARAP AT ANG LALAKI din ng servings 😅 Imagine ordering an Avocado shake for only 1USD with a size larger than Starbucks’ venti. Ito ang literal na daks na hahanap-hanapin mo mama. Choosy ka pa ba? We tried the pineapple, avocado and mango shakes na mas madaming fruits kesa sa ice. Sorry, Frutas 😅 3. Souvenir Shops. Mahihiya yung Divisoria and Taytay sa tawad na ibibigay nila. Imagine going there tas you’ll be approached by Cambodian women in their super malambing na accent “Hello Ladies. How much do you have? Ill give you discount” Yes, sila mag aadjust sa budget mo. I can still remember getting a souvenir worth 1 dollar na originally 3 dollars talaga. Di ka nila tatantanan hanggat di mo kukunin yung products. Hanggat kaya nila ibigay, ibibigay nila. Ganun dapat! Char! They have rattan bags din similar to the one of Indonesia. And ang gaganda din ng quality promise!!!! 4. Pub Street. I know I mentioned this awhile ago pero isasama ko pa din siya sa list kasi Pub Street alone is an enough reason to visit Siem Reap, Cambodia. Na shookt kami sa dami ng foreigners. Best place for night life kasi again open lang siya every night. It’s pointless visiting this museum if you don’t take an audio guide. Sure lots of exhibits have brief descriptions but you get so much more info with guide, instead of just walking around not knowing what you’re looking at. Lots of carvings/statues/ Buddha etc, but also some interesting artifacts....sadly some with unknown provenance. Spend a couple of hours here, they have a small cafe and lovely gardens too.

The exterior walls of the museum are a noble and elegant rust-red color, with roofs stacked in rows and pointed ridges. There is a small golden pagoda on top. The museum now houses handicrafts and sculptures from the 4th to 10th centuries, the Angkor Dynasty, several photographs of Angkor photographed by French photographers, and many Angkor Wats. The authenticity of the sculpture. It will be helpful to do your homework before heading to Angkor Wat. The museum is open plan, very beautiful and exotic. There is a small pavilion in the center, which is dedicated to a statue. There are four artificial lotus ponds around it. The grass and the benches are like a soundproof wall.

Phnom Penh for me is one of the most underrated cities in south east Asia and doesn’t get enough credit for it’s history, culture and most of all it’s laid back vibes. If you’re looking for an alternative to Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore - give Phnom Penh a try! Cambodia has been going through an economic boom recently and as a result there are more flights connecting it to other cities in asia, and a growing tourism market which gives you more choices and makes for easier travel. I flew from Hong Kong and got an airport transfer with trip, the airport is small and efficient but will soon be replaced by a huge new airport - a big sign that Cambodia is on the rise as a tourist hotspot. The hotel selection in Phnom Penh is really impressive and I found my hotel offered more charm and comfort than anywhere I had stayed in Bangkok, and at a fraction of the price. The Aquarius Hotel And Urban Resort had really nice and spacious rooms, amazing food options and of course it’s signature rooftop infinity pool. It had 360 degree views of the city and as the hotel is quite small, the pool is never too full to take a dip! The city isn’t as developed as other south east asian cities so you do need to rely on tuk tuks or the grab app to get around, but I found everyone was friendly and helpful and there is definitely a more relaxed approach to tourism here. There is a great food and local coffee scene along with the standard markets for street food, I found a nice balance of upmarket eateries with fusion food and local stores selling traditional dishes. The history of Cambodia is fascinating and Phnom Penh has some incredible museums dedicated to the Khmer Rouge regime, the Killing Fields and the Tuol Sleng Genocide museum being the most impact. The central market, waterfront and independence monuments are all key highlights and offer great photo spots. With an entrance fee of USD 10, I stepped into a space that housed centuries of Khmer history, primarily featuring artifacts from Buddhism and Hinduism. The museum’s collection consisted largely of statues—silent sentinels of the past—each bearing the artistic and spiritual imprint of a bygone era. Among them were pieces originating from Angkor Wat, their intricate carvings whispering stories of an empire that once flourished. The experience was brief, lasting only about 30 minutes before the tour concluded. While the museum’s treasures were undeniably rich in cultural significance, I found myself wishing for more context, perhaps a deeper dive into the narratives behind each artifact. Nonetheless, it was a worthwhile stop, offering a glimpse into Cambodia’s artistic and spiritual heritage within a condensed timeframe.

I was utterly shocked when I visited Phnom Penh by how amazing the city is and how underrated it is. Everyone talks about Bangkok and cities in Vietnam, but PP is on par with them for an incredible experience but so much cheaper! ⭐️ The airport is quite close to the city and there is a train, but it’s quite infrequent so the best option is GRAB app. Book a transfer in advance on trip or use grab as when you arrive the terminal is quite chaotic and it’s hard to trust the drivers trying to shout fares at you. ⭐️ Accommodation - This is where Phnom Penh can save you money, even with inbound travel booming there is a still so much choice and prices have stayed low. The amazing think about this city is how many independent boutique hotels there are, I stayed in the Aquarius and it was one of the nicest hotels I’ve ever stayed in and one of the cheapest. Most hotels here have breakfast, rooftop pool and offer food options through the day at a price. ⭐️ Currency - This is a big thing here in Cambodia as they use two currencies. They use the US dollar and the local currency of Cambodian Riel, the dollar is the more stable and used but they will try and give you chance in Riel. So be careful when buying stuff to see if the change works out well, i usually update the rates daily when I leave the hotel. It’s mainly at street vendors and markets, restaurants and malls have fixed exchange rates and refund rates ⭐️ Transport - Phnom Penh has a long way to go in terms of infrastructure development so here you do need to rely on bike riders, taxis and tuk tuks. grab is good here especially to guarantee a taxi with good air conditioning! ⭐️ attractions - museums, galleries and restaurants here are very cheap and I saw so much of the city for less than $10 a day for entry fees. The only exception being the killing field tours but there are deals on booking sites. ⭐️ card / cash - I used a lot of cash in Phnom Penh compared to other cities in Asia as some places still don’t take card. #springitinerary I just came back from Phnom Penh, and here are my honest thoughts— 👀 Honestly, there were far fewer tourists compared to my trip to Siem Reap a few years ago, when the flight was packed with Chinese tourists. But Phnom Penh turned out to be much more modern and vibrant than I expected! It didn’t feel as chaotic as the rumors say—aside from the slightly high prices. 🏛 Must-visit attractions in Phnom Penh: 1️⃣ Royal Palace (US$10) Don’t miss the Silver Pagoda and Emerald Buddha Temple—absolutely stunning ✨ 2️⃣ Mekong River & Wat Ounalom (Seaside Buddha Temple) Though it’s a small temple, it’s very spiritual and full of incense offerings 🙏 3️⃣ National Museum of Cambodia (US$10) A great place to explore Khmer history and artifacts 📚 4️⃣ Wat Phnom (US$1) Said to be the birthplace of Phnom Penh—lush and peaceful 🌳 5️⃣ Independence Monument Perfect for taking photos 📸 #Cambodia
