✨A Bavarian Trip to Neuschwanstein Castle at Night|Stay at Haus Alpenrose
🏡 Schwangau and Bavarian Charm
On this trip, I drove to the small town of Schwangau in southern Germany, nestled at the foot of the Alps, just a few minutes' drive from the fairytale-like Neuschwanstein Castle. Known as the final stop on the Romantic Road, surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery and tranquil lakes, the town feels like something out of a storybook.
🛏️ Haus Alpenrose Accommodation Experience
Haus Alpenrose is a classic Bavarian-style B&B:
• The white exterior is accented by dark wooden beams, the carved wooden balcony is hung with flower pots, and the window frames are painted green, creating a classic and warm atmosphere.
• The rooms, featuring primarily wooden furniture, are simple yet comfortable, and at night, only the gentle sound of the mountain breeze can be heard.
• Most of the houses in the town follow this style: pitched roofs, large wooden-framed windows, and balconies with flowers. Walking through them feels like a postcard from the European countryside.
💧 Kristall-Therme Schwangau Crystal Spa
This time, I chose to visit Kristall-Therme on a Tuesday, a nude bathing day. Seeing I was Asian, the receptionist thoughtfully double-checked, "Did you know today's nude bathing day? Is that really okay?" I couldn't help but laugh, and it also gave me a little cultural experience.
Once inside, I realized that German hot springs aren't scalding hot like those in Taiwan, but rather lukewarm and cool, making a longer soak even more comfortable. The phrase "Sine aqua non est vita" (Without water, there is no life) upon entering the spa felt especially apt and brought a smile to my face. The mixed nude bathing scenes in historical dramas are truly astonishing.
🌙 A Romantic Surprise in the Night
Back at the B&B, there was another romantic surprise – from the moment I stepped outside, I could see the lights of Neuschwanstein Castle gleaming in the night sky. The castle, quietly nestled among the mountains, was a dreamlike spectacle that captivated me. Falling asleep under this night view was the most unforgettable moment of the trip.
🏰 Neuschwanstein Castle Tour
Another major advantage of staying here is that you can quickly reach the parking lot and purchase your ticket the next morning, avoiding the crowds and easily ascending to Neuschwanstein Castle.
The castle, built by the "Fairy Tale King" Ludwig II, has a dreamlike white spires nestled among the mountains, becoming the inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle. You can hike, take a bus, or take a horse-drawn carriage to the top, and the Marienbrücke Bridge (Marienbrücke) at the mountainside offers the most iconic panoramic views.
☕ Fairytale Coffee Time
After touring the dreamy Neuschwanstein Castle, I stopped by the Schlossrestaurant Café, located at the castle's entrance. The café's greatest feature is that you can enjoy a cup of coffee while admiring the magnificent views of the Alps and the Bavarian Lake District. I also bought Neuschwanstein Castle postcards and waited to mail them the next day.
