The old city is full of historical sites, including Baroque palaces and ancient churches, showing a rich historical style. The new city has modern buildings and is also the location of the presidential palace, parliament, and government. Visiting Bratislava feels like visiting an ancient town in Eastern Europe, not quite like being in the capital. There are two squares in the center of Bratislava's old town: the Main Square and the Franciscan Square (Frantiskanske namestie). Several landmark buildings are located in this area, including the city's oldest Gothic church, the Franciscan Church (Františkánsky kostol, also called Church of the Annunciation), built in 1297, and the Church of the Holy Saviour (Kostol Najsvätejšieho Spasitel'a), built in the 17th century. The Primate's Palace, built in the 18th century, has been converted into a museum. The Main Square (Hlavné námestie) is one of the most famous squares in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. Access: About 20 minutes by tram from Bratislava Central Station Tourist attractions: Michael's Gate, St. Martin's Cathedral, Čumil (manhole statue), etc. Recommended points: Compact enough for a day trip, you can see almost everything in about 4 hours Bratislava is an efficient tourist city that can be reached in a few hours from Budapest and Prague Castle, with all the sights concentrated within a 30-minute walk. The main attractions are Michael's Gate and St. Martin's Cathedral, and the Old Town is home to many Slovakian cuisine and souvenir shops. This statue “Schone Naci or known as "smiling man" is tourists favourite spot. This is only statue of a real existing person here in old town. His original name was Ignac Lamar and he lived in Pressburg (former name of Bratislava) at the turn of the 19th and 20th century.He greets people on the Sedlárska Street and give out flowers to ladies. He was a real gentleman and whole city missed him when he passed away.
