Guidong in Chenzhou is a hidden gem in southern Hunan, with an average annual temperature of 15.4°C and a summer average of 23.6°C, making it a perfect summer retreat. Here's my Guidong travel guide. Transportation Guide From Guangdong, it's a 3–4 hour drive. Exit the highway at Shatian and head to Shatian Town for local specialties like yellow mushroom soup and yellow glutinous rice cakes—a great start to your trip. Accommodation Recommendations - Wanyang Mountain Scenic Area Hotel: Located within the scenic area, ideal for sunrise, sunset, and stargazing. Itinerary Day 1: Cool Water Fun Arrive in Guidong, drop luggage at your stay, then dive into refreshing activities. - River Drifting: Glide through mountain springs, splash around with friends—pure summer joy. - Stream Trekking: Crystal-clear waters teeming with fish. Bring chilled drinks and fruit to enjoy nature’s bounty. Day 2: Mountain Exploration - Jungle Adventure: Hike mountain trails, cross suspension bridges, and visit Hukou Waterfall to witness nature’s power. - Wanyang Mountain: Afternoon visit to alpine meadows with grazing livestock, evoking prairie vibes. Watch sunset at Wanjing Platform, stargaze at night, and catch sunrise the next morning. 🔔 Chenzhou Qinge Mountain, also known as Dalingshan, Qinge Mountain, is 30 kilometers away from the county seat of Guidong, and is a paradise for hiking, suitable for tourists who like outdoor activities. ⛩️Location: Qinge Xian Scenic Area, Guidong County, Chenzhou, no admission fee! 🚌Transportation recommendation 🚗Self-driving 🌟Highlights: The sunrise at Qinge Xian is known as 'the sunrise of Qinge Xian'. After reaching the top, the clouds and mist are swirling, the mountains are undulating, and when the sunrise comes, a touch of red glow slowly rises on the horizon, illuminating the entire mountainside, a sight too beautiful for words. With some luck, you can also witness an endless sea of clouds, as if you are in a fairyland. 👍Most recommended: Few people, beautiful scenery, the view is no less than that of Wugong Mountain, whether it is cloudy, sunny or rainy, it has its own charm. And no matter how you take photos here, they turn out great. 📝Note tips: ✅The weather on the mountain is changeable, with a large temperature difference between morning and evening, so it is recommended to bring warm clothing and sun protection. ✅Due to the complex terrain on the mountain and it is not fully developed, it is advised to hike with an experienced guide to ensure safety. ✅The scenery of Qinge Xian is quite similar to that of Wugong Mountain, and the whole journey is very relaxing, with no pressure. ✅Special reminder: There is only one toilet wc along the way, do not wear a dress, short sleeves, slippers or sandals when climbing at night, it is really really cold on the mountain. ✅There are very few trash cans, be sure to bring your own garbage bags! ✅Next to the summit, there are self-service hiking sticks available, you can take one if needed, and just put it back in its place when descending.
