【Introduction】
The Guangdong-Hong Kong General Strike Memorial Hall is a memorial museum established to commemorate the anti-imperialist and patriotic political strike led by the Communist Party of China in 1925.
In June 1925, in order to support the May 30th Movement in Shanghai, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions organized and launched a massive strike in Guangdong and Hong Kong. Workers from the province and Hong Kong and people from all walks of life in Guangzhou united as one and threw themselves into the anti-imperialist strike struggle with great enthusiasm. It lasted for 16 months and involved 250,000 people. Its length, scale and strict organization were unprecedented in the history of China's labor movement and rare in the history of the world's labor movement.
The memorial is located at the former site of the Provincial and Hong Kong Strike Committee. The old site, Dongyuan, was built in the late Qing Dynasty. It was the garden villa of Li Jun, the admiral of the Guangdong Navy at that time. After the Guangdong-Hong Kong General Strike broke out in 1925, the Guangdong Revolutionary Government requisitioned Dongyuan as the office of the Guangdong-Hong Kong Strike Committee. In 1926, the house was burned down by reactionaries, leaving only the East Garden Gate Tower. In 1984, the Red Building, originally used by the strike pickets, was rebuilt on the original site.
