Petaling's Divine Gem: Mariamman Temple
Location: Sri Maha Mariamman Temple
Jalan Tun H S Lee, City Centre, 50000 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur
In Kuala Lumpur's vibrant heart I tread,
To Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, I'm led,
A sacred place where history's tale is told,
Of devotion and faith, ancient and bold.
In the bustling streets of Petaling's embrace,
Stands this Hindu Temple, a hallowed place,
With roots that reach to the 19th century's start,
It's a testament to culture and faith in every part.
Sri Maha Mariamman, an ode to the divine,
A shrine to Goddess Mariamman, so benign,
Her blessings sought by many, from far and near,
In this temple, where devotees gather, year after year.
Its ornate gopuram, a masterpiece so grand,
With vibrant colors, it seems to touch the sky's expanse,
Carved gods and goddesses in intricate array,
Welcome visitors, guiding them in prayer each day.
Within its sacred walls, serenity does reside,
The fragrance of incense, devotion, and pride,
Amidst chanting and rituals, a spiritual dance,
A glimpse into a culture's enduring romance.
I, a traveler, in awe of this sacred site,
Amidst Petaling's bustling, a radiant light,
Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, a jewel to behold,
A testament to history and devotion, stories untold.

Sri Maha Mariamman Temple
After visiting Chinatown, I stopped by the bright and colorful Sri Maha Mariamman Temple - it is the oldest Hindu temple in Kuala Lumpur, built in 1873. There are ornate carvings and areas for worship and offerings. All visitors are required to remove their shoes before entering the temple, and ladies need a long skirt or long pants, but they will offer a covering if needed for free.

Kuala Lumpur | Sri Mahamariamman Temple
Sri Mahamariamman Temple. The Sri Mahamariamman Temple, located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, is very close to the well-known 'Petaling Street' among the locals. Established in 1873, it is the oldest Hindu temple in Kuala Lumpur, featuring a typical South Indian style. The most distinctive feature of the Sri Mahamariamman Temple is the temple tower above its gate. The tower has seven tiers, adorned with many colorful Hindu deities. The deity seated in the middle of the top tier is likely the goddess Sri Mahamariamman, an incarnation of the South Indian goddess 'Parvati'. The various other deities have different expressions and postures, and especially the fired sculptures of the gods are very brightly colored and exquisitely crafted. After so many years, they remain as vibrant and eye-catching, which is quite rare. Picture 11, next to the temple, there are stalls selling garlands and offerings, with strings of garlands that are very brightly colored. This temple welcomes non-Hindus to visit, but shoes must be removed before entering and left outside the main gate.

There is an Indian temple in Kuala Lumpur that has stood in the city for over a hundred years!
This is my second time entering this Indian temple in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, and it is the first time I learned that the locals call it 'Mariamman Temple', which is also the oldest Hindu temple in Kuala Lumpur. Located near Petaling Street, it, along with the surrounding Sin Sze Si Ya Temple and Guandi Temple, made me feel the wonderful charm of Kuala Lumpur's diverse and harmonious religious culture.
At first sight of this temple, I was shocked by the five-story temple tower above the temple gate, with more than 200 three-dimensional sculptures of deities with different expressions and lifelike. Inside, there are even more colorful and story-rich sculptures worth careful appreciation.
It is said that on the important Indian festival 'Thaipusam', from the early morning, believers will start from this Indian temple and parade all the way to another holy place in Kuala Lumpur, 'Batu Caves', the scene is spectacular.

This typical South Indian style temple, the statue of the goddess Mariamman inside the temple is decorated with gold, silver, emeralds, etc., which is extremely exquisite.

The location is diagonally opposite the Guandi Temple, next to Chinatown. It should be noted that you cannot wear shorts or skirts to enter, and you need to enter barefoot.

The Mariamman Indian Temple is the largest and most gorgeous Indian temple in Malaysia, filled with intricate carvings, gilded and hand-painted patterns, plus those tiles from Italy and Spain, making this temple even more magnificent.

The classic white Hindu architecture and the colorful entrance are very beautiful, the tower body is full of Hindu god statues, and there are complex and bright colored sculptures inside the temple, which is very beautiful.

This was a nice place to visit and there was a party going on. It’s hard to know what but the music and ritual were great. Worth a visit Women were provided with scarves to cover your legs if you don't have any of them and remove your shoes which mind in baskets for a minimum fee
Since visiting the Temple of Kotumalai Bilayar is a must, it is equally important to visit this great temple to receive the divine blessings of Maha Mariaman. On every visit, I make it a point to visit this huge temple, which brings back my beautiful memories of my visit to the many great temples of South India. These are all chilling moments and I certainly consider myself lucky to have her divine blessings.
I saw this Sri Maha Mariaman Temple and it was a very ancient temple but still very beautiful with a touch of rich art and culture. This should be on your wishlist, and the temple to visit when travelling to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Hinduism or non-Hinduism is welcome to visit this temple.
This temple is within walking distance of the Central Market. The exterior is a very old Tamil architecture. Inside the temple at the main entrance is the main diet and in the surrounding square there are the goddesss of Shif, Parvati and Kartik. Quiet and clean temple Prasad is kept for worshippers to serve themselves. A must visit to this temple.

This colourful temple located from a stone away from Pasar Seni LRT station to Petaling Street.
Paid a RM0.20 to temporary store our shoe at the small walkway into the temple and remember to wash your feet clean before entering (the water tab just on the left side after the walkway).
This temple is just about 3-5mins walking distance to Petaling Street, do drop by if you are planning to Petaling Street!

The details of this temple…
I never thought that this beautiful temple was just behind my hostel! This is an Indian temple and the details are composed of Indian deities. I was in awe when I took a picture of this. How can a temple be so beautiful and detailed at the same time?
