Tickets: no tickets required for general entry unless you wish to climb up the cathedral and to visit the different exhibitions
Jaw dropping architecture both on the outside and inside, located in the heart of Wien. When we visited, it wasn’t during mass hours so we couldn’t freely walk around the cathedral to witness its beauty.
Note: the cathedral closes at 5:30 pm

St. Stephen's Cathedral
St. Stephen's Cathedral is the symbol of Vienna. Construction commenced in the 12th century.
There are 13 bells hanging within St. Stephen’s Cathedral. The best-known bell, the Pummerin.
If you’re in a rush, on a budget or just want a little taste of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, you can visit the front of the nave and sections of the northern side of the complex for free.
This remarkable building also hosts magical Christmas concerts throughout December each year. So, if you visit Vienna in winter season, I would highly recommend you to come here and enjoy Christmas Market with most delicious local foods and hand made souvenirs.
Stephansdom is so highly regarded and appreciated that it’s featured on the back of 10 cent coins produced in Austria.

The church surrounded by malls
The Vienna Church, with a history of over 800 years, combines various styles and is still popular today
If Vienna is a book, then St. Stephen's Cathedral is definitely the chapter in the book that cannot be missed. From the Babenberg dynasty in the 12th century AD to the present, this building has witnessed the dynastic changes of the city of Vienna, and has experienced every rise and fall, every pain of this city of suffering.
Vienna has the reputation of the city of art, and St. Stephen's Cathedral should be considered the culmination of art, integrating Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque architectural styles, and even has a bit of Renaissance characteristics. These different styles record the trials and tribulations it has experienced. The south tower, built in 1433, is nearly 137 meters high and was once the tallest tower in Europe. From the top, you can overlook the cityscape of Vienna.
Entering the church, you will be shocked by its magnificent and solemn interior. The interior decoration of the church is gorgeous, the main altar and many sacred artworks and precious cultural relics show its religious value and historical significance. If you have the courage, you might as well climb the highest spire of the church to feel the grandeur of Vienna.
The cathedral stands quietly in the center of the city, attracting tourists from all over the world. Whether it is a love for religious art or a pursuit of history, this is a place worth visiting. The deep historical accumulation and artistic value make this building an unmissable attraction in Vienna.

We came over from Salzburg Austria to Vienna for a 1 day trip. One of the most memorable places we visited must be St. Stephen's Cathedral. The interior and exterior of the cathedral looked so grand and beautiful. The carvings were exquisite too. We also got to go up to the top to enjoy the view of the beautiful town below.
In 2024, I hope to I can visit Innsbruck of Austria.
Vienna St Stephen's Catheral
Had MacDonald breakfast before visiting the famous St Stephen's Cathedral. Accidentally joined the guided tour to the catatomb🫨 and climbed 343 steps up to the South Tower (i.e.the highest tower of the cathedral).
Did some quick shopping in the afternoon while my bro went to the national library.
Headed to the train station in the evening travelling to Budapest - the last leg of our journey.
Overall the standard of living in Vienna is higher and we didn't get to enjoy the food much. Probably because we were there during Christmas period most restaurants were closed. But I like the Christmas market and decorations there😍

Vienna's iconic building - St. Stephen's Cathedral
Vienna's iconic building - St. Stephen's Cathedral
The architectural style of the entire church is a peculiar mixture. The west-facing main entrance is in Roman style, the spire is Gothic, and the altar is Baroque style. The integration of these different architectural styles is the result of more than four centuries of continuous reconstruction and renovation by people, and it is also a manifestation of the compromise and harmony of Viennese people. As it was a Sunday, the interior was not open to visitors, so I could only take a few photos from a distance after entering the door.
St. Stephen's Cathedral is the most important Gothic building in Austria and one of the iconic buildings in Vienna. Located in the city center of Vienna, St. Stephen's Cathedral is one of the tallest Gothic buildings in Europe and has a strong local color of Eastern European churches.
St. Stephen's Cathedral began construction in 1304 and took two centuries to complete, making it a classic of architectural art in the century.
Like all the churches left over from European history, St. Stephen's Cathedral has suffered numerous disasters and undergone several reconstructions.
After World War II, Austria was devastated, but the work of rebuilding their homeland began immediately. St. Stephen's Cathedral became a symbol of the Austrian people's determination to rebuild. The cathedral's architecture is vast and exquisite, with two rows of Gothic columns dividing the nave into three parts. Looking out, the colorful rays of light shining through the stained glass windows behind the altar add a touch of mystery to the Baroque-style altar.

St. Stephen's Cathedral
St. Stephen's Cathedral is a symbol of Vienna and the most important Gothic building in Austria. The cathedral houses a large number of art treasures, some of which can only be visited with a guide.
Inside the cathedral is the red marble tomb of King Friedrich, designed and built by Niclas Gerhaert van Leyden between 1467 and 1513. The north hall of the church features the pulpit and organ base designed by Anton Pilgram in 1513, both of which include self-portraits of the author.
"The New City Altar in Vienna" is also worth seeing. It is a Gothic altar built in 1447 and became the tombstone of Prince Eugene of Savoy in 1754. The decorations on the columns inside and outside the altar once again show us the luxury and extravagance of the former imperial palace.
Suggestion:
Climb 343 steps to reach the small cabin at the top of the church, where you can enjoy the picturesque scenery of Vienna.
Symbol of Vienna.

Ah yes, Vienna. Our stories have brought us here. Walking down the streets of Vienna with its marvellous architecture you could almost hear Johann Strauss conducting The Blue Danube as you pass by these majestic buildings. Once a small Roman fort to guard the Empire from German incursions it later became the capital of the Habsburg Empire.
A good POI to start with is St. Stephen’s Cathedral. One of the city’s largest cathedrals showcasing gothic style architecture but with a slight Romanesque twist to it. The arches and high ceiling really bring the viewer at a standstill making them admire their marvel.

St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, Austria is one of my main reason why I came to Austria at the first place. The architecture of this cathedral is considered to be one of the best in the architecture world. It really did not appoint me, from the outer design to the interior of the cathedral. Everything in here is just stunning. Wonderful. #wintergetaway

I was amazed with the architectural of the St. Stephen Cathedral. Do make sure you visit St Stephens for your spiritual sustenanc.
Located in the city centre, Stephen's Cathedral is a symbol of Vienna. The church was built in the 12th century and is the third tallest in the world. From the outside, the entire church is full of Gothic style. It may be because of the age, the church has a sense of smoke, and the church tower is towering into the sky. It is spectacular.
Because it is located in the center of the center of Vienna, it is also known as the "Heart of Vienna". The church tower is 136.7m high and its height is second only to Cologne Church and Ulm Church, ranking third in the world. The church was built in the 12th century of the Gregorian calendar. The earliest architectural part is the current gate and the door walls on the left and right sides. It is a Roman architectural style. After the Habs dynasty ruled Austria, the church was re-expanded and two towers of the north and the south were built. Made in the South Tower, it has a height of 136.7m and has a Gothic architectural style. Built in the north tower, it has the taste of the Renaissance.
We arrived just in time for a mass, and the scene was extremely sacred. Let me not have a religious belief, I can't help but awe.
Located in the heart of Vienna, Sveti Stefan Cathedral is a symbol of Vienna. The church was built at the end of the 12th century, with a tall spire of 137 meters, second only to Cologne Cathedral in Germany. The architecture of the entire church is very diverse, the main entrance is Roman style, the spire is Gothic, the altar is Baroque, and even so it is not messy, visually grand and harmonious.
Sveti Stefan Cathedral has a huge catacomb. Members of the Habsburg dynasty also placed their internal organs here. The church is a great place to see the panoramic view of the city, with 343 steps at the top.

All the churches left over from European history are well-tested, and the Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna is definitely one of the most famous churches in Europe. Historically, churches have been ravaged and rebuilt several times. After being eroded by the fire twice, the king of Bohemia, Otoka II, rebuilt the Gothic-style Romanesque-style church. The construction period spans several centuries and the scenery is worth every scene. Scrutinize. The
St. Stefan Church is open to the public free of charge. The towering Gothic columns give a depth of field view, so that everyone who walks into the church is impressed by the size of this huge building, and this beautifully carved I was amazed, step by step closer to the altar, and the faint light of the cloudy sky failed to cover up the color of the glass window painting. The centered cross was especially dazzling under the light. The geometric pattern of the
dome is like a mathematical pattern, subtle cascading, and an indescribable visual perception. The towering building is matched with a tall glass window frame, and the magnificent atmosphere reveals a mysterious atmosphere.
The church is the place of faith and the place where the soul is placed. The believers who go to St. Stephan's Cathedral every day are always in a constant stream, every time they worship, or once, or expect, here. Has carried the spiritual world of the Viennese.
European architects' unique architectural style is always expressed in the church. It not only reflects the talent of the architect, but also condenses the local people's vision of a better life. It can't be classified but can be seen in real life. Its trail.
The Viennese called St. Stephen's Cathedral "the heart of Vienna". One of the reasons is because its geographical location is in the center of the inner city of Vienna. In fact, as far as the map is concerned, the geographical center should be regarded as St. Peter's Church, standing here. It can be seen in almost every corner of the neighborhood. Its predecessor is traced back earlier. I don't want to say that you don't read the words anyway. After that, he came to be a classic Baroque church in the hands of a palace building that became famous in Baroque style in Austria. This architect is the architect who designed the Palace of the Beauty for Prince Eugen. His name is too long, I can't remember it.
Traveling in European cities always avoids the two most important elements of European history - the royal family and religion. Therefore, in addition to the castle, the important attraction is the church. As the heart of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Vienna has many churches, large and small, but if you can only choose one of them, it must be Vienna's landmark, St. Stephen's Cathedral. Speaking of it, people will be described as the third tallest church in the world. I am deeply influenced by an architect and always think that it is meaningless to construct in height.
There are countless kinds of people who like to go to Vienna, but there must be St. Stephen's Cathedral in the city. This 800-year-old church is a mix of architectural styles. The main entrance to the west is Roman style, the spire is Gothic, and the altar is Baroque... enough to see Vienna's tolerance and richness.
As the cathedral of the Catholic Diocese of Vienna, the St. Stephen's Cathedral, built in the heart of Vienna's Old Town in the 12th century, is also the symbol of the city of Vienna. The 137-meter-tall conical spire rises into the sky. The colorful roof of the green and yellow mosaic tiles shines in the sun.
Step into the interior of the church, the light is brighter than the imagination, the tall Gothic columns are very small, the dome is as far away as the Milky Way, and the stained glass windows are shot in a colorful way. The light adds a mysterious atmosphere to the Baroque altar, and the choir's singing is empty and echoing in the vast church... Even if I stayed there for an afternoon, I still feel that my eyes are not enough.
St. Stephen's Cathedral has a tower on each side. Very special, the South Tower North Tower is completely asymmetrical, the height is almost doubled, and the North Tower is covered 60 meters. The Renaissance-style green dome was closed because of the embarrassment of the national treasury. The stairs of the South Tower are very narrow. When you climb the 343 steps and walk to the narrow viewing platform, you can see the beauty of Vienna without a dead end.
Stephen's Cathedral is in the middle of the entire business district, far from the high spire. In Vienna, you can always see the classic architecture and the modern architecture coexist and perfect.
The church that was once subjected to two fires is still being refurbished, and the towering spires are surrounded by countless sculpted small spires.
The interior of Stephen's Cathedral is very grand and beautiful and is one of the most famous Gothic churches in the world. Although there are many churches to visit in Europe, a beautiful church can shake you again.
