National Monument - Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall
#wheretogo
On a fine sunny day in Singapore, I had the opportunity to visit a national monument known as the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall.
This iconic landmark and villa pays tribute to Dr. Sun Yat Sen, a prominent figure in Chinese history, often referred to as the "Father of Modern China." The museum showcases his vital role in the establishment of the Republic of China and the role that many in Singapore played in furthering the anti monarchist cause.
In this villa, Dr. Sun Yat Sen personally raised funds and strategised critical plans to overthrow the last imperial dynasty in China, making it a must see for visitors and history buffs to Singapore.

Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall
Address: 12 Tai Gin Rd, Singapore 327874
Highlights:
It is gazetted as a national monument in October 1994, and managed under the National Heritage Board. It is worth visiting to know more about Dr. Sun Yat Sen and his contributions to Singapore. Not much crowd.
The exterior looks like a colonial style villa. The environment is soothing. There is a bedroom where Dr. Sun spent most of his mornings reading and writing letters. This heritage building was featured in some local series for filming Baba and Nyonya culture.
It is closed on Monday. Free admission for Singaporeans and Permanent Residents. Free guided tours are available daily.

Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall was gazetted as a national monument in October 1994. It sheds light on the lesser-known details of Singapore and Nanyang’s involvement in the 1911 Revolution. The double-storey villa was named Wan Qing Yuan and pays tribute to the vital role played by Singapore and Nanyang in the 1911 Revolution. It was in this very villa that Dr. Sun shared his revolutionary ideals with his Nanyang supporters.
The permanent exhibition in the villa is fully air conditioned. There are exhibit and artefacts related to Dr. Sun. There is also a gift shop near level one entrance which you could get your hand on some memorabilia.
The Memorial Hall is also popular among family whenever it held any festive activities such as during mid autumn festival or dragon boat festival.

The Sun Yat-Sen museum is located at the tai gin road. I spent more than an hour reading through the information and exhibition gallery. I learnt a lot from Mr Sun, who has contributed his efforts during the past days. The museum also duplicated the living standards during those days. Such as the study room and the room where Mr Sun used for meetings, as well as his bedroom. There were lots of articles published in the gallery about this marvellous man in history. It is indeed an educational tour where everyone gets to learn something about the past. Students from the various schools also visited the museum to have a guided tour when I went there. It is truly an amazing museum to be at.
