The River
The River City of Wuhan is within the 4-hour travel circle of Hong Kong's high-speed rail. The three towns of Wuhan are well-known, not only because of their profound historical heritage (an important town of the Chu State during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period), but also because they played an important role on the stage of modern history (the first shot of the Xinhai Revolution). Until the COVID-19 pandemic a few years ago, this city was put under the perspective of the whole world.
Today I will introduce another look of the city. Near the Hankou River Beach, there is a large concession area that was established a hundred years ago. The buildings in this area are not high (about 2-3-story small Western-style buildings), but they are very exquisite and full of exotic style. The materials used in the building are different from today's concrete. They are all solid stones such as marble and granite, so they can still retain their original appearance after a hundred years. Although they have been used as residential houses for decades and have suffered some damage, they have become more homely!
In recent years, various literary and artistic creators have moved into these buildings, organically revitalizing the historical buildings. Tongxingli in the picture is one of the most representative ones and has become another city card of Wuhan. 📍Address: Tongxingli, Hankou, Wuhan
