If this is not your first time in Rome and you want something not standard, go to the area Trastevere (translated simply as “across the Tiber River”) is an old town with narrow cobbled streets, medieval houses covered with ivy, it is also called the “heart of Rome”. There are no crowds of tourists here and you can calmly walk, buy ripe apricots in a small shop, play with the owner’s dog, try on dresses by an unknown Italian designer, and then have an incredibly tasty dinner in a small restaurant, where the mustachioed Italian owner himself will take your order and feed you simply magical homemade pasta What is a must see/visit at Trastevere? Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere (the oldest in operation, the first church on this site was before the reign of Constantine, and inside there is a very atypical mosaic a la Byzantine style) 8 courtyard Basilica of Santa Cecilia market in piazza di S. Cosimato (cheeses, butter - everything as for our own) near the basilica S.Pietro in Montorio is a good observation deck with an unusual panorama of Rome. Oh, by the way, try the pizza at Trastevere! Here’s the route I followed and everything I wish I knew before I went! 🚩 Sightseeing Route I started at the Colosseum early in the morning (before the crowds), then wandered through the Roman Forum and up to Palatine Hill — you can actually feel the history there. After that, I walked to the Pantheon, grabbed a quick coffee, and finished the day watching the sunset from the Spanish Steps. Perfect mix of ancient ruins and buzzing piazzas. 🏖️ Must-Visit Attractions • Colosseum: It’s so much bigger and more impressive in real life. • Vatican Museums: Even if you’re not super into art, the Sistine Chapel will leave you speechless. • Trevi Fountain: I went at night — so much more magical without the daytime crowds. • Trastevere: This neighbourhood stole my heart — colourful streets, tiny restaurants, and the best pasta I had all trip. 🚇 Transportation The metro was super easy to figure out. I mainly used Metro Line A and B to jump between major sights. But honestly, Rome is a walking city — most days I racked up 20,000 steps without even noticing because you just keep turning corners into something beautiful. 📷 Photo Spots • Sunrise at the Colosseum — seriously worth waking up for. • The view from the top of St. Peter’s Basilica — it’s a bit of a climb but absolutely unforgettable. • Piazza Navona — especially in the early evening when the lights come on. • Hidden side streets in Trastevere — every doorway and balcony looks like a movie set. 🍜 Local Cuisine If you love food (who doesn’t?), Rome will ruin you in the best way: • Cacio e Pepe was my go-to — creamy, peppery, simple. • Supplì (fried rice balls) are a perfect snack between sightseeing. • I had the thinnest, crispiest Roman pizza in Trastevere, and honestly, nothing back home compares. • And yes — daily gelato is absolutely a thing. I found a little place near the Pantheon that made pistachio from scratch. 🏠 Accommodation I stayed at Ostello Bello Roma Colosseo and honestly, it made the trip even better. The location is incredible — just a short walk to the Colosseum — but what really stood out was the atmosphere. The staff were amazing, super friendly and always ready with tips for exploring the city (or just pointing you towards the best pasta nearby). The hostel had a rooftop terrace too, which became my go-to place to chill after a day of sightseeing — great views, good vibes, and often some live music or little events happening. I can tell you that if you visit Rome, you shouldn't miss this chic area that will make everyone exclaim, "Wow!" Trastevere is an old area full of medieval buildings and architecture. This is clearly a scene from a classic movie. 🎥 🍷This area is located south of Vatican City, along the Tiber River. The atmosphere is so vintage that it's like you've traveled back in time to Rome in the past. It's a hangout spot for tourists and even Italians because it's full of beautiful restaurants, cool bars, and places to chill that still maintain the old city's romantic atmosphere. The mood and tone are very beautiful. 🍕Since we're in an area full of restaurants, we have to pin down some great restaurants that we should try at least once, especially for fans of Italian food like us. Nannarella is an authentic Italian restaurant. The taste of the food is the best. Every menu is delicious.
