🏡Wat Phra That Chom Thong is located on a hill in the middle of the ancient city of Wiang Chom Thong. According to the legend of Phra Chao Liap Lok, during the time of the Buddha, the Buddha came to spread Buddhism in the city of Phukamyao and stayed overnight on Doi Chom Thong, which is located on the northern bank of Nong Aieang.
🙏The Buddha gave the hair relics to King Ashoka, who put them in a casket and buried them in a pond more than 70 wa deep, and built a chedi over it. Later, Khru Ba Srivichai and Buddhists restored the chedi as it is today.
The important and interesting things in the temple include:
🏠The Vihara is a hall with bare side walls, no doors or windows. Inside is the principal Buddha image, a sandstone Buddha image, and many other sandstone Buddha images arranged around it.
🛕The Phra That is a Lanna-style pagoda. There is no evidence of when this chedi was built, but it has been restored many times. It is located on a square base, stacked in three layers, supporting a bell-shaped body. The top is a golden umbrella. The base is covered with metal sheets. The pattern is in the form of the 12 zodiac animals and beautiful Thai patterns.
Both the temple and the pagoda are surrounded by a covered walkway.
🙏Phra Chao Tan Jai was completed in 1 day.
🌳The Bodhi tree was planted by Kru Ba Srivichai in 1922.
