Whitby Abbey was built between the 11th and 14th centuries. Today, the ruined building faces the east coast of England, with a whole cemetery facing the sea, the Gothic church beams reflecting the blue sky, full of desolation. By far the best abbey I ever visited! If you do come here, best to come before 4 as they close at 5pm. 1 hour is a tad too short. I’ll recommend 1.5hours at least because at the end, you can go down to a center nearby where they sell souvenirs. You’d be awed by the beautiful architecture and how it was preserved for the longest time. In one corner of the abbey, you can oversee the Whitby Beach. Beautiful scenery istg.
